>390 starting to show it's age in 2017 games >AMD keeps gimping the 390 with every new driver update while ignoring bugs >want to buy a Vega card, but have to compete with miners eating up all the stock and deal with inflated prices due to low stock and high demand
Who else is seriously considering switching to Nvidia?
My friend has a 780 ti and he thinks it's still as good as a 1060, even though he doesn't game anymore. How should i break the bad news to him? Should i tell him?
Luis Robinson
>he doesn't game anymore. Then it is just as good
Jeremiah White
>he doesn't game >kepler Makes sense
Carson Wilson
It is though, unless he has >1200p monitor.
Benjamin Gray
The last nvidia card i used was on a core 2 duo i built from scratch back in like 2008, the thing caused a lot of BSOD's though and died completely in the end
Still sitting on my hd 7850 2gb for the foreseeable future now (it still does get the job done in bf1 et al)
I'd like to upgrade to a rog strix rx at some point but (((miners))) have driven prices up prohibitively so all one can do is wait for the market to normalize again i suppose
Xavier Nguyen
the 390 is about 50% faster than the 970 in newer games
Jacob Hall
I bought a 1080 to replace my good old 390, It's still a great card, only a bit too hot
Adam Gutierrez
>driver updates bro, theyve neen doing this shit since 02 when they got caught cheating in 3dMark03 with AA and AF
so honestly, when you build something, you must know what you are building for.Budget, brand loyalty and colors, sounds etc, sometimes does become priority.
PC Park Picker best shit online since 007 golden eye
Evan Myers
normie life >have job and wife /w kids have friends and family who give a shit about you >having money so you can get shit done >having money so you can get shit done i wish we could italise words
Blake Russell
fuck off asshole shill if you're still using 1080p you don't need to upgrade, wait for nvidia or amd next gen next year if you upgrade to 1440p otherwise stfu, my 390X and 6600K run everything great.
You can hear him trying to stifle his laughter as he points out the 780 ti is often seen hanging around a 1050 ti in terms of performance.
Xavier Jenkins
I gave up OP. I'm currently planning a 1080 build. I got so tired of trying to make a budget ryzen 5 rx 580 build that I just flipped teams. Will it bite in me in the ass down the road? Probably but I'm tired of waiting.
Adam Murphy
t.nvidia shill
Nathan Fisher
lol @ how do you know what/who has? fucking christ
Jackson Martin
holy shit, they get paid for trolling?
what the fuck...
Camden Parker
>We tested and compared both PCBs while running the cards with a defined limit so that they received about 260W of power in the same gaming loop. For the thermal paste, we used Diamond from Innovation Cooling, which is somewhat more viscous compared to Thermal Grizzly’s rather thin Kryonaut paste. >To achieve a similar heat curve under load for both packages, we had to apply a slightly higher contact pressure for the lower package (between approx. 0.05 and 0.1Nm more).
Lincoln Taylor
No. Kepler has really aged that badly. GTX 680 is around 10 FPS higher than a 750 ti. I should know, I own both. It's really, astonishingly terrible.
Connor Ortiz
just curiosity, how does a 290/x compares itself against a 1050ti nowadays?
Zachary Miller
Is AMD is making a killer sale on their graphics cards then why haven't their share price gone up?
Evan Baker
Welcome to the stock market where nothing makes sense. Buy the dip.
Leo Kelly
I don't have a stock broker
Jaxon Long
Search for robinhood. You can do your stock trading on your tablet or phone. Keep in mind that these trades are all on you, so research first before investing.
Samuel Hughes
holy shit, they get paid for trolling?

Does it work if I'm in the UK?
Aaron Brooks
Only if you post your tits
Jace Carter
Uh .. actual shillbot or just retarded?
Caleb Torres
so its a no...
Nicholas Myers
What 390 are you using?
my sapphire can't into Relive drivers unless I settle for no user set fan control and let the stock fan profile to idle at 45-50c with load temps at 85c. Relive also won't let me use 3rd party oc tools like afterburner.
I've only just got relive drivers working by doing a bare bones install. I gained fan control through msi af but still no overclock control.
William Campbell
In theory it's about on 970 level, where the 1060 is closer to the 980. In practice, it's Kepler so it's horrible.
Ethan Bennett
I've got an MSI 390 and it's never given me any problems.
Anthony Butler
>tfw want to upgrade from 390 >tfw have a 1440p 144hz freesync monitor and nvidia doesnt support freesync
vega isn't good enough
guess ill have to wait for navi
David Johnson
name one (1) modern game worth playing that takes advantage of the top tier GPUs.
Levi Moore
thehunter:cotw, literally one of the most demanding games gpu wise nowadays
Asher Adams
It performs slightly worse than a 1060 , 10% worse on average
Sebastian Peterson
seems like msi's were the ones to get. Apparently sapphire neglected to include some features on their pcb that relive drivers require. A lot of people have complained to amd but amd says it's not their fault. Which is true but they could at least make an update that allows sapphire owners (there are other brand affected as well) to use other means of overclocking and fan control if Wattman doesn't play nice. Their attitude seem to be "wattman or gtfo".
Ryan Hughes
My 290 vapor x has no problems either
Logan Walker
welp i guess they skimped on the nitros.
Wyatt Lewis
why would you buy a 1080 when its been out forever .. just wait for the new shit.
Brody Williams
my 390 has not problems either. user, I think you have a problem.
Isaac Peterson
I got 770 mid cycle, the fucking worst decision i've ever made
Chase Martinez
I want to upgrade from my GTX 560ti with an AMD card for freesync, but everything's shit.
Daniel Adams
i had two nitro 390's in crossfire for a bit and never had issues with them. even with the hellish heat they were pumping out.
Asher Rodriguez
here is the worst performing vega game
Evan Fisher
There's no reason not to switch to nvidia. I defend AMD when they make decent products at decent prices, which makes them worth buying even if they don't get close to nvidia's high end. But miners ruined the 'decent prices' bit. And AMD ruined the 'decent products' bit. The Vega 56 is actually okay for the price they said it was going to be, but miners stopped it from ever being at that price. Not to mention scalpers- people buying vegas to then resell to miners on ebay or something.
I REALLY hope nvidia's next generation cards have really bad hash rates. AMD fucked up by not gimping the hash rates of their cards, fucking bigtime. Rajesh needs to get his H1B revoked.
Nicholas Powell
>$700 for cheapest Vega card that's in stock
I'm not entirely happy with the rx 580 versus Vega thing, but this is what actually makes it shit.
Mason Rodriguez
that's besides hardware point though market is shit for all GPUs, it's like blaming government for the rain
Noah Mitchell
>market is shit for all GPUs, That's why I said everything is shit.
Is any of this getting through to you?
Jace Powell
and keeps gimping the 390
i mean you know its a shill when he doesnt understand that if amd gimps one gcn all of them will go down since they are the same chip...
Sup Forums has attracted so much illiteracy since ryzen launched that my iq will reach the mariannas trench in a bit
Aiden Martinez
Vega 56 is more than okay.
Owen Turner
>>AMD keeps gimping the 390 Yeah, sure. Look at poor 980Ti on the other hand...
Adrian Hall
I know how you feel op and I'm a fury x owner and owned only amd cards in the past (6950, 290, fury x)
seriously starting considering buying nvidia for my next upgrade; they've locked HBM overclocking and didn't even add enhanced sync (or whatever it's called) for their flagship gpu
Nolan Howard
>market is shit for all gpus You're right, my $380 1070 is actually $399 now :o
Carson King
>5670 stopped showing it's age 3 years ago, and all games from 2014 to 2017 run pretty much the same >AMD no longer supports legacy driver so not getting any updates nor gimpings >don't want to buy any new cards because who the fuck needs more than 30 fps. ???
That's what you get for settling for more.
Jordan King
>$100 dollars extra per each fps
Luis Nguyen
It's a whopping 0.5fps more maximum for only $200 extra goy Edge out the competition
Justin Nelson
Well Vega is massively front end bottlenecked at the moment because primitive shaders aren't enabled yet, hence the 56 is just as fast as the 64 at the same clocks for now. They're working on it.
Ayden Brown
This is with hairworks right? My 1070 on max settings (minus hairworks) gets a solid 80-90fps average at 1440p
Tyler Fisher
>he got shilled into buying Pajeet's GPU
Sebastian Ortiz
sorry user , i need those 8 more frames otherwise the game will be literally and utterly unplayable trash.
Landon Cooper
Man, I just can't wait for a reasonable price on a video card that's got modest performance gains over my 750 Ti. Only got it as a display adapter rather than real gpu purposes. Genuinely considering the 1050 Ti if there's no further RX Vega cards aimed at a more budget-oriented market. Either that or potentially screw myself over by buying a used 1060/480/580.
Jeremiah Price
>1080ti: 74-91fps No need to be sour, kraut
Liam Ward
AMD is shit for training neural networks.
Camden Carter
doesn't 390 werk with amdgpu
how could you gimp something that's open salsa
Aaron Garcia
>7850 id use that shit till it dies if i had it and then look for an xfx 470
Bentley Miller
>wait ™
Kayden Stewart
>Wattman such a stupid name just have to say, the previous name or whatever was much better
why is the 1080 appealing to you when the 1080ti price has done nothing but drop and the 1080 price is still hiked as fuck
might as well go big dick pascal
Gabriel Parker
I was actually considering changing out my GTX 960 with an AyyyMD card because they're FINALLY on par with nVidia on Linux.
We'll see what everything looks like in a couple of months
Juan Hughes
Why wouldn't you use an nvidia card when it's the best option currently available? Do you seriously have brand loyalty?
James Roberts
While you are full of shit considering 390(better GPU than 780ti,its around 980, only downfall is hot'n'loud meme, but it is just an meme), truth is that only normal price/performance ratio GPUs(closest to MSRP) on market are gtx1050ti and gtx1080,and they were nothing to write home about in the first place when taking fps per $ in the first place. mining has shifted whole $/fps paradigm into absolute illogical place. AFAIK 390 are praised (not as rx470/570) among miners so if you are smart enough with sale, I could see you getting one 1080 for not much more added money. In a way, lucky gamers who had rx 470-580 before the craze upgraded massively to 1070 for almost free, but even 1070 is now in miners clutches(and , as far as I can see, they will get more and more popular when miner noobs get hit with first real electricity bill(yearly bill optimisations by electric companies) and figure out that manhours+power+problems+ insecurity of whole cryptocoin has put them in a hell of a minus, and that they basically burned their for free GPUs so they could pay bills and some whale across the world earns real money.
Evan Young
>390 getting gimped >lets switch to gimpvidia do you have any idea how much the 780 has Dropped in performance? the 390 has gained while most nvidia cards get gimped after 2~3 years
Brayden Green
Pffttt hahaha ha
Adam Bennett
thats not true tho, they're just shit on arrival with better drivers while amd cards are always miles ahead in raw tflop, just dont give a fuck about drivers
Benjamin Taylor
amd cards are in fact videocards, while nvidia stuff is just custom pcb for current gen games
Gavin Johnson
>1070 for almost free I had crossfire Asus ROG Strix 8GB RX480, and sold them together for $800. I decided to buy the EVGA FTW3 1080 Ti (on sale admittedly) for about $700 So essentially, I got paid $100 to get a 1080 Ti
Michael Martin
>check 390 8gb prices >200€ Almost a 1080
Thomas Evans
>390 starting to show it's age in 2017 games >AMD keeps gimping the 390 with every new driver update while ignoring bugs >want to buy a Vega card, but have to compete with miners eating up all the stock and deal with inflated prices due to low stock and high demand
not a single one of those statements is true, yearly upgrades are for nvidiots
Sebastian Butler
I was waiting for a vega, but since the only vegas in stock are $650+ I just went with a $709 1080 ti instead. It sucks because now I have to sell my freesync monitor on Craigslist and buy a Gsync instead, but at least I can game.
Isaiah Allen
>upgrade to 1440p Why would anyone upgrade to the 720p of our generarion? If you get new monitors get a 4k. Otherwise you will be kicking yourself in a year.
Jordan Wright
I have a rock in my living room that's never given me any problems
though to be fair I've never tried to use it for rendering
Thomas Roberts
>30" 1440p why not
Luis Green
470 here just got my freesync monitor and couldn't be happier
Carson Lopez
Nigga the 1050ti competes with the 780ti today
Adrian Butler
stop the lies gibbo
Luke Adams
Actually its the opposite, buy a 4k right now you are an idiot. the next release ones are the 144hz ones so why buy a 60hz one? Dont post shit please you dont know what you are on about.
Easton Taylor
I didn't say 780 though. I wouldn't be too opposed to getting a 780 though, quite frankly. It's still an upgrade nonetheless. Nobody in my area sells graphics cards, and the people that do are well out of my ideal travel distance.
Brayden Hill
>tfw I got a new r9 fury nitro for 250 dollars before the mining craze >tfw it's around 980 ti performance, close sometimes to 1070 >tfw people completely overlooked this and kept buying 1060s for the equivalent price or more Now you can't get any mid tier cards for less than 300. I seriously dodged a HUGE bullet this upgrade cycle. Likely won't be upgrading until Volta/navi.
Noah Bailey
I'm saying it would be like upgrading to the 780ti. Aka worthless
Ryder White
I bought an XFX R9 Fury for €220 when Polaris was released. It runs stable at 1050 MHz with a -72mV underclock. Combined with a 1440p 144Hz Freesync monitor it's amazing.
I might upgrade to a custom RX 64 though.
Hudson Sullivan
I wouldn't upgrade to vega unless you're dying for those extra frames. Fury 1440p freesync is plenty suitable. I'd Wait until vega drivers to see if they really help or until Volta. Or a vega refresh/navi. Either way, the fury is still a high end card an should last you a year or so more.
Benjamin Martinez
My fucking 390 started crashing after just 1 and a half year of use. The only way I managed to fix this was to speed up the fans and keep the case open. The damn thing crashes the second it gets too warm. Sometimes it crashes at around 50°C. I doubt my next card will be AMD
Mason Brown
>no AA >no GoyWorks >"""""custom"""" shadows >config """""tweaks"""""
