Should I sell my 980Ti SLI Hybrids and get a single 1080Ti?

Should I sell my 980Ti SLI Hybrids and get a single 1080Ti?

No, just wait for Nvidia Volta GV102 GTX 2080 Ti before upgrading

buy intel 7900xe goy

>just wait a decade
???

With the used market as healthy as it is for 980ti sellers, I'd go for it. Just sold my 980ti for like 380, owned it for 2 years, bought a 1080ti for 720. So about half of the price was offset by selling my old card, somebody else got 1070 performance, and I got a very heefy upgrade. Win-win

I sure hope you have something better than a 1080p display

nvidia is going to name their next generation gpu's the 20XX series instead of 11XX series, it sounds better. from what I hear, they're going to announce it late 2017.

Probably not, I have an overclocked 1080Ti and it's great but I can't imagine coming from 980Tis in SLI would be an upgrade.

not him but I use my 1080Ti at 1440p, I had a 1070 and it simply wasn't capable of maxing many games like GTA V, Dishonored 2, or Rise of the Tomb Raider.

If I wanted to game at 4K I'd have to either get a second 1080Ti or compromise on settings.

>from what I hear, they're going to announce it late 2017.
it's already confirmed it's not coming out this year and the 2080 Ti most likely won't be out until 2019 given their Ti release schedule, 780 Ti and 980 Ti were 2 years apart, 980 Ti and 1080 Ti were 2 years apart, except this time NVIDIA have no competition so it may even be a larger gap

>except this time NVIDIA have no competition so it may even be a larger gap
That's what I fear, now that Vega is out and can't even beat the regular 1080, I find it really hard to believe Nvidia will rush out anything new.

Oh well, I'm happy with my 1080Ti

I would upgrade now to a 1080 ti
the resaon is that 900 series are dropping in price and will do more so towards late september.

also your'll be saving some coin on power.
A sli setup can't be cheap to run.

OP here, but will I get the same amount of CUDA cores with a single 1080Ti?

You don't need to compromise on settings at 4K with the 1080 Ti

What is the difference between high/ultra? Basically nothing, you wasted your money user.

>Should I sell my 980Ti SLI Hybrids and get a single 1080Ti?

Yes, what kinda dumbass question is this?

you must not own a 1080Ti
if that's the way you feel, stick to consoles.

Just how laggy are those games? DaS3 runs fine maxed at 1440p in a 1070.

Do side by side comparisons then user

the fps hit for very slightly better visuals isn't worth it in most cases, better off with smoother gameplay than sharper visuals, besides if you really cared purely about visuals you'd be running an OC'd 1080ti at 4k 60hz, a 1080ti is more than capable for 4k 60hz gaming at high/ultra on current games. Don't need AA which is going to help fps further.

GTA V on the maximum settings, specifically grass + quality with any MSAA kills performance on anything lower than a 1080Ti. Dishonored 2 is totally fine on a 1070 if you use the resolution scaling feature, Rise of the Tomb Raider is just shit I feel like.

They were all playable but would have drops below 60fps or require some settings tweaks. I like the uncompromising experience the 1080Ti provides, that's why I was willing to pay $700 for it.

>a 1080ti is more than capable for 4k 60hz gaming at high/ultra on current games
There is no way that this card would hold 60fps in GTA V on the max settings at 4K. Do you own a 1080Ti?
>Don't need AA
Alright, I'm not gonna bother replying to you anymore if you're going to post retarded bullshit. I've played on a 5K display before, you still need some levels of AA even at that resolution.

>the fps hit for very slightly better visuals isn't worth it in most cases
you do understand anyway that what you are describing is the concept of diminishing returns?

If you asked most laypeople they wouldn't tell the difference between a PS4 and a PC game on max settings, doesn't mean it's not there.

Do you really need to see every blade of grass and turn on MSAA? I don't think you do. Besides that with a decent OC you should be hitting 60fps avg, this was on the founders card at launch.

"Our Grand Theft Auto V benchmark is made more demanding by the use of 4xMSAA (instead of 2x) and 4x Reflection MSAA (rather than Off). The rest of the settings are still maximized to whatever extent is possible."

Do people actually play GTAV or is it not just a bench game anymore? I got it for the PS4 and played it for like 6 hours and got bored with it is why I ask.

>Do you really need to see every blade of grass and turn on MSAA?
Why would I buy a $700 video card otherwise? If I wanted to compromise I'd play the Xbox version.
>"Our Grand Theft Auto V benchmark is made more demanding by the use of 4xMSAA (instead of 2x) and 4x Reflection MSAA (rather than Off). The rest of the settings are still maximized to whatever extent is possible."
This is definitely bullshit or they mostly drove around the city which is where performance will be best on the absolute maximum details since there is little vegetation. Plus, that's the average framerate meaning it spent a lot of time under 60, so with vert sync meaning it'd be 30 unless I spent $900 on a 4K G-sync monitor.

>Do people actually play GTAV or is it not just a bench game anymore?
I mostly play online with friends

he's quite right, Ultra settings these days are there just to sell graphics cards

If you don't have a G-sync monitor whilst having a 1080ti then your a retard.
Also GTA5 is not the most demanding game engine.
try ME:A in max at 4k then your'll feel the ture meaning of pain.

I feel a bit inferior with my 750ti but honestly it's been a workhorse for years now.
I was just gifted a 144hz monitor so what should I be upgrading to to make use of all this power?

what resolution is it?

1920x1080 25" monitor.
Honestly, I'm primarily playing a bunch of blizzard games like OW and WoW but I just want to make everything look as smooth as possible.

dude, just get a 1060

>2080
next one will be 1180 you idiot

>tripfag detected

fuck off

You'll have trouble spotting the difference betwee high and ultra on blizz games.
A 1060 will run 150+ fps easily if you're not mindlessly maxing out all settings.
