Is it time to pull the trigger?

Is it time to pull the trigger?
I have a 3750K and 16GB ram... it feels like it would be a nice boost in performance if I upgrade... but I mean, it's not like I absolutely need an upgrade.
Quite frankly, the last time that I ugpraded I didnt really need it either. Back then it was from a Q6600 to a 3750K.

It feels more like any software that is slow is slow because it's written badly... not because my hardware is bad.

Wait for Zen2.

that might literally be over a year away still

sell the 3750k and buy a 3770k and wait for zen2/coffeelake

7nm LP would be totally worth the wait.

oh shit, I just looked up their differences because your advice seemed so stupid and the 3570K only has 4 threads / 4 cores, the other guy basically has 4 more threads... wtf damnit, I fucked up back then didnt I

that means if I upgrade to Ryzen, it might feel more like a 4x increase in cores.

obviously I'm not gonna go into all the trouble of selling and then buying an almost identical cpu now, 4 years late

i would be shilling for Ryzen, but I still have a 2500k so Ill wait for zen 2. You might as well upgrade since you only have a i5 tho. I dont need more than a bog standard i5, you might

I think I'll wait for the i7-8700K or Ryzen 2, whichever comes first. The 8700K feels like their first and it looks like that will be Intel. This feels like their first CPU where they got their shit together again. Apparently it's coming out in October, it has on-par multithread performance with Ryzen 1700 while having less cores + the better single core performance. So it's a draw/slight win over Ryzen 1700 in multicore and win in single core. Plus, it hopefully has an integrated graphics card as well, so that's always something I like with Intel. Yes Ryzen 1700 might still come out slightly on top if you overclock it but I was never a fan of overclocking stuff, I just want to buy this thing and not worry about it.

You need faster RAM, and going from 16 to 8 will hurt.

>ASRock
Get a Carbon Pro.

>MSI
Literal garbage

Id just buy the 3770k, im doing that because my MoBo doesnt need replacing and it will porbbaly be enough for even the gtx 1170/ amd 690

is there even any point in using a 3rd-party cooler with the 1700? From what I've heard, the packed-in spire cooler does a pretty decent job, even if you overclock.

noctua is ultra silent

I'd struggle to justify not stepping up to the 1700X then, for the extra features and higher binning, since the cost difference is minimal when you exclude the cooler from the equation.

I would save on ram but overall pretty solid build

Seems like your comp is alright, better than mine was... Depends what games you're playing as well.

Personally I was running a I5 3570k with a GTX770 and never planned to upgrade until both CoffeeLake and Volta were available.

Bad luck my GTX770 fried and I suspect my motherboard is defectious as well.

Still waiting on my GTX1070, and also the kit Noctua sent me so I can salvage my NH-U12P SE2.

Such a shitty timing for an upgrade though..

I also build a new one, but i already own PSU, HDD and Graphicscard from my old system.

>2400 RAM
I supposed if you've already reconciled the fact that you'll be losing performance, go for it!

Damn we basically pay a hundred dollars more here for a R7 1700 after conversion... That G Skill memory would be 240USD for me.

The hardware pricing is so god damn bullshit in the EU...

Ich weiß ... Wobei der Ryzen 7 gestern bei ca 281€ war ...

Лyчшe гипepпня пpoфeccopы нинyжны.

Mhh. When buying in Germany at mindfactory, the prices are nearly the same in € ... Dont know, where you are from ...

Les américains sont tous au lit encore?

Пыня?

From France.

Wutt..

Amazon has relatively good price for Ryzen right now, should have checked. However one euro is worth 1.2USD right now, and overall everything is far more expensive hardware wise.

Heпыня?

That and he's spending the extra tax on four memory sticks for no good reason.

Unless youre editing video, rendering heavy scenes or running finite element analisys your CPU must br blazing fast.

Also Zen doesnt offer a sognificant simgle thread advantage.

If your system feels slow you might be having bloatware, malware, or thermal issues.

>spending 300e on ram
lul

are you retarded?

Well, try to order at mindfactory.de
Seems to be much cheaper then france, and you can even ship to france for around 20€ per shipping.
Starting with the ryzen 7 1700 being arount 30€ more expensive then here, it would be quite cheap to order there.

Well too late for that, I have most of my parts just waiting next to my sofa for assembly, just needs my god damn graphic card to be delivered and also AM4 kit for Noctua... :/

Thanks for info anyway, I'll try to remember for when I upgrade in three or four years.

Well, then we are in the same boat,
Also I am waiting for some core parts like the MoBo. And it just wont come because some cheap LED-Strips i orderd arent aviable at the moment ... The other shit like the case and CPU etc. will arrive today, but hey ... at least I hope i can build it at the weekend.

christ, is ram really that much in your country?
in the UK you can get 16gig of 3200mhz B-Die corsair dominators (AKA the best possible ram for ryzen) for £150.

Same... If they don't ship my graphic card soon enough for the weekend I'll be mad. I ordered it last week, it was supposed to be available monday. I contacted them and they promised delivery would happen later this week, but still no shipping info at all. Good thing I picked the faster more expensive Chronopost option for shipping..

You mean that ?
