What does Sup Forums use as their daily driver?

How is it operating now compared to when you unboxed it?

>speed
>battery
>glitches

Would you recommend it?

If money wasn't a concern, what phone would you get?

Moto G5
>How is it operating now compared to when you unboxed it?
Well I've had it for like a week and a half now so it hasn't had time to deteriorate.
>speed
P good
>battery
P good
>glitches
None so far

>Would you recommend it?
Yeah. Camera isn't great but that's not a big deal

Bear in mind my previous phone was a Xperia Neo V which I had for nearly 5 years and which was shitting itself really badly for the past year, so my standards for "good" are probably way lower than those of the average /spg/ user

>if money wasn't a concern

If I had "fuck you" money I would get this: sirinlabs.com/store/s-o-l-a-r-i-n-fire-black-carbon-d-l-c

>14 thousand dollars for those specs, just because it's made of meme materials
Yeah nah fuck that shit. If I had fuck you money I'd buy a normal flagship which has better specs than that thing.

Nexus 5X
>How is it operating now compared to when you unboxed it?
I've used it around 1,5 year now. Must say it's been holding up pretty well. Recently updated to Android O which made it even perform better then N.
>Battery
Okay-ish; around 3,5-4hrs.
>Glitches
Big chance it's going to bootloop any time, thanks to LG.

>Would you recommend it?
Not anymore, it's almost EOL.

Looking for suggestions

Moto G5 Plus

problem child 2

nexus 5

>okay I guess, don't really have anything else to compare with
>dogshit
>stuck power button

no, it's almost 4 years old

Not a fan of comedies.

Galaxy S4
>speed
It's slow as fuck, everything takes ages
>battery
I've changed it once, because it shut down even if I had more than 30% charge. Still, it doesn't last long, and when below 20% it drains even faster
>glitches
I haven't yet understood what triggers this event, but sometimes a windows pops up telling me "SIM card not detected - reboot", at which point I can only reboot the phone; sometimes it happens very frequently, sometimes it doesn't happen at all for many weeks straight.

When it came out it was the best, nowadays I wouldn't pick it up even if was new.

If money wasn't a concern I'd build my own goddamn smartphone. For more readily available choices, I'd get the V30, which will probably release at a too steep price for me, so I'll have to choose between waiting (again) for the price to drop, or to just buy it regardless.

Want to buy a new phone, looking mainly for a very good camera and a tough exterior. Owned the Moto X force but it started lagging a lot. How is the essential ph1?

>very good camera and a tough exterior.
>Essential PH-1
hahahahahahahahhaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ghahahahahahahahahahahahh hahahaha

get the redmeme note 4 you get free egg drop soup with it

S8 Active

how about you get an active sex life

What is your opinion on the new Xiaomi mi6?
NO bully

I don't know anything, which is why I asked friend. No need to sperg out

I've had very poor experiences with previous Samsung phones. Have they improved as a company?

I'm hoping for a better camera than that

Check reviews

How hard would it be to buy one of these and unlock it as a gaijin?

Yay or nay?

It won't work outside Japan you stupid weeaboo

You can unlock them, I just don't know how.

ordered the plus version, i should be here by tomorrow, has made a good choice?

moto g5 plus

dont buy chinese shit

Well I mean, it's supposed to be a bit better at everything than the normal G5, so yeah I guess

frequencycheck.com and willmyphonework.net both say that the Redmi note 4 (not indian edition) does not support LTE B20 (800 DD) but product page and every review site says it does.

Who is right?

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSfwtmcjDDL89KcsGZq2hwkgIddF1L9aep9UP6-zCWw/htmlview

Redmi Note 4 Global is the only version with B20, but confusingly it's listed as "Redmi Note 4X International Model" is on willmyphonework.net and "Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Dual SIM TD-LTE TW" on frequencycheck.com

I'm indecisive as fuck

Looking for a mid range phone capable of doing most things quickly

Moto g5s plus for 285 or an honor 8 for 300? Or should I pay 100 euro more for an honor 9?

Is the moto z2 force being released in the uk as i can only find the play version

The honor 8 has better specs but has a chink rom, g5+ is nearly stock Android

LG G6 can also be had for around 400€. OP3T is worth looking at too (might have to buy used).

that processor in honor 8 gives me weird vibes, plus some shitty android skin is a no no

Get the G5+ simply because it has stock Android

Wait for Moto X4

Thanks

>Mi6

Good if you like a small phone but the price in most countries is a bit off putting for something that isn't your Samsung, LG, or Sony.

What is the highest end phone I can get with square edges that isn't an Xperia?

Square-ish edges? The Xiaomi Mi Mix.

what do you mean by that?
square edges or straight screen?

So i've been CTRL+Fing the last couple of /SPG/s and seen one mention of the Essential Phone and only in passing.

I had a good feeling about the phone and expected Sup Forums to shill it pretty heavily for being pure Android and arguably better than the Pixel, is it actually DOA?

I'm thinking of buying a Xiaomi Mi Mix(once the new one is revealed and hopefully the price comes down even more).

Any reason not to? I was looking at the 4/128 version because the price difference is pretty significant, and overall it's almost down to affordable levels.

I could afford the 6GB version or probably even the new one as long as it ends up under $1k, but I'm not that keen on spending that much money on a phone, and if the leaks are right it doesn't even look that good.

The front camera placement is the blunder of the century and killed all the appeal of the phone for me.

The force version are exclusive to the US afaik
>no headphone jack
>no SD card slot
>no ip protection

What's the best way to do 2-way sync between my phone and computer (Ubuntu)?

Might be worth a read: xda-developers.com/essential-bleeding-consumer-trust/

That does look nice but I'm not buying a chinese phone.

As in you could poke your eye out on the corners. Something like a galaxy won't do that. Curved edges wouldn't really work with that but I could be wrong.

>any reason not to?

It's been mentioned in /spg/ that the earpiece is trash on that phone.

>chinese phone

They're all made in China, user.

...

Has a Chinese name though. That's enough to deter me.

The 6GB version is on sale for $499
gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_617026.html?wid=4

iPhone made in America bro

No 3.5mm jack, no SD, no removable battery= no buy.

if i could get one imported would it work on the networks here

how about nokia 8? or lg g6

Yeah, the unlocked one would work fine

There's a coupon for Gearbest that knocks the price down to $489 for that phone.

I'm confused, my phone from years ago has a 20.7 MP camera but all the recent high end phones have shit like 13MP. Doesn't that mean they're worse and will have lower res photos?

That's strange, mine says "assembled in China" on the back

>lg g6

Looks kind of good but those corners are still slightly too curved. I want POINTY.

Moto Z Play

>How is it operating now compared to when you unboxed it?
I bought it 3 weeks ago so pretty good, no issues besides some overheating every now and then

>speed
good, I sold a phone with SD 820 to buy it and I can't differentiate the speed between 820 and 625, maybe apps take a second more to open but who cares

>battery
exceptional, it lasts 2 to 3 days

>glitches
overheating every now and then, besides that, there's nothing

>Would you recommend it?
yeah, it has a good battery and nice specs, it's pretty big for a 5.5 inch phone tho

>If money wasn't a concern, what phone would you get?
maybe an Oneplus 3T or HTC 10, yeah U11 got a better camera and specs, but Metal>>>>>Glass, I'd buy a Google Pixel (regular size) but no microSD is killer

If it takes pics in 720p or even 1080p versus a camera that gets 2160p, there is a difference. Megapixels don't mean shit these days, just a marketing term to make people think "More megapixels means more gooder!"

>no removable battery
I can understand the other two, but this one hasn't made sense to me in almost 5 years.

Who seriously actually NEEDS a removable battery anymore? Back in 2010-2011 when a phone battery would last you half a day at best, yes having a removable battery made a lot more sense because even moderate cell phone users either had to keep the phone plugged in constantly or carry an extra battery, the wait time to charge a battery from scratch was several hours, charging your phone for an hour might get you 20-25% battery life.

These days however you can get 40-50% charge in under 30 minutes.

No, the number of megapixels doesn't say shit about the camera quality. What matters is the camera sensor and image processing software. I guarantee you that the 2MP camera on the Pixel or S8 for example takes better photos than your old phone.

That's tempting, I'm gonna hold out for the announcement on the 11th though.

*the 12MP camera

mega pixels were a meme created by nokia back in the day, still remember that 30+ MP lumia phone

>The force version are exclusive to the US afaik
They have it here in Brazil too
>No headphone jack, shit camera, shit laggy camera software and shit camera, no expandable storage, gimmicky camera placement, meme dual camera that doesn't change anything, no water resistance.
resolution /= quality
my canon 60D should be worse than your 20.7MP phone following that logic

So how do I tell what resolution something will take photos in?

High resolution doesn't mean high quality. In fact, high resolution images taken with a bad sensor will look even worse.

The software is ending up being the biggest factor with smartphone cameras.

Smartphones by design are limited in size, so no matter what you'll never have a massive sensor with a nice lens. So all the companies throwing super wide aperture lenses on these tiny sensors then ignore the software get blown out by shittier lenses on similar or even identical CMOS sensors, but if the software processing is better, the "worse" camera is still going to look better.

Those PureView cameras actually had a reason to be high megapixel, it's called pixel oversampling

Overpriced garbage with shit camera

Megapixels tell you the resolution. Aperture and sensor size is what's relevant to actual quality

2160p = 3840 x 2160 pixels or 4096 x 2160 pixels
1080p = 1920x1080

>Aperture and sensor size is what's relevant to actual quality
You mean software image processing.

Take identical sensors and lens aperture, etc.

One with Sony image processing, the other with samsung. Who wins?

HTC 10
>How does it operate compared to when unboxed?
Same or maybe a bit faster on Android N compared to stock Android M

>Speed
Stellar software, still didn't crash since june 2016 when I bought it
>Battery
Since it's 3000 mAh, it can last the whole day and still have some juice in the morning with lighter use

I love this phone, dropped it few times and only minor scratches appeared

>2160p = 3840 x 2160 pixels or 4096 x 2160 pixels
Any decent software would have these differentiated.
Likely with
2160p (UHD)
or
2160p (DCI-4k)

nice, speed and battery sound great

what's the catch though? I've never managed to find a phone with the legit complete package

>charge phone to 95%
>check battery about half an hour later
>it says 98%
What?

phones slow down the charging speed when it gets closer to full to prevent it from damaging battery

i hope this is a bait.

imagine if the note 7 had removable battery, when they started exploding samsung could have just offered free replacement battries, easy and convenient, for both makers and consumers, also those phones were exploding while even turned off now if you had removable battery you could have avoided that

second: imagine youre on a 8+ hr flight, you can just bring some spare batteries and be good on your way

third: power banks are fucking shit, compared to spare batteries

Huawei Mate 9

>How is it operating now compared to when you unboxed it?
As good as day 1 since January, even after the update from Android 6 - 7

>speed
Top tier. Zero slowdown in daily tasks. The Kirin 960 is a winner. Up there with the Snapdragon 835 in practical use.

>battery
Top tier. 4000 mah. It also helps that the display is 1080p, so it's pushing less pixels than your average flagship. Pulls down 2 - 4 days on a charge depending on usage.

>glitches
EMUI is the biggest downside. The battery saving algorithm is mostly good, but can err on the zealous side sometimes. I've had several apps have to be re-opened after letting it go to sleep and waking it up again.

>Would you recommend it?
If you like big screens, massive battery life, and consistently solid performance, absolutely.

>If money wasn't a concern, what phone would you get?
Money is actually no concern, and I just buy whatever I fancy at the moment. I also own an LG G6 that I switch back to at times. I bought a Moto Play to try out with the Gamepad Mod, but that thing is meh. I might pick up the V30, Mate 10, or Pixel 2 depending on reviews.

>power banks are fucking shit, compared to spare batteries
Well that's where you're wrong, I can charge all my devices with a power bank, a spare battery is only for the phone

youre rich, why not just buy s8?

>second: imagine youre on a 8+ hr flight, you can just bring some spare batteries and be good on your way

What the fuck 8 hour flight doesn't have USB ports or an AC outlet?

Further, by having a removable batter you basically make wireless charging impossible (or at least a real pain in the ass), you make water proofing next to impossible as well. Not to mention making the phone physically larger for the same size battery, or you're forced to have a smaller battery in the same size device.

Also, maybe if you didn't buy cheap shitty chink battery banks you wouldn't have issues. The Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh bank has Quick charge 3.0 and can fast charge most modern phones so you can get 40-50% battery in like 30-45 minutes.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 looks really great for the price. I'm an absolute noob though, so can someone tell me whether there's any risk in chinese phones, or is it the same as a samsung just without the big brand on the back? Also, is it hard to install the play store?

Because the cool kids on the internet told him samsungs touchjizz was bad.

Seriously though, samsung is too popular among normies.

Sorry I forgot to mention a quite relevant little detail: that I unplugged it at 95%

So according to the phone it charged an additional 3% while unplugged

>his phone doesn't work as a power bank for other devices

Well here are the cons:
>US models come without headphones, but since I am from Europe no problem with that
>Phone tends to overheat during charging (since it hac QC 3.0)
>Battery quality stagnates over time with heavy use and bad charging habits (what I read on forums) but I took good care of battery with medium use and not charging it over night
>WiFI module is not so strong compared to other 2016 flagships, but it doesn't matter to me too much
>Some models have problems with software-caused light bootloops
>Stock google apps can be annoying (google photos in my case, I perfer gallery app on my old GS5)
>Metal back makes it uncomfortable to hold after heavy use

1. I don't like Samsung's edge displays. They're gaudy, more fragile, distort the image, and add more glare. I owned an S7 with the flat screen, which I gave to my mom who needed a replacement for her aging HTC One M8.

2. TouchWiz has certainly come a long way, but it's still pig disgusting. The S7's bloat was still pretty unacceptable. The worst was Samsung Pay, which was pre-loaded. I disabled it in the App settings, but after every update, it would literally re-enable itself and put an overlay on the homescreen again to open when accidentally swiped. I didn't want to fuck around with rooting on a phone I wasn't going to own very long anyway. Wasn't worth the hassle.

3. lmao @ a Bixby button you can't re-purpose

4. Fingerprint sensor is in the stupidest fucking position on the S8. I can tell it would just piss me off in daily use.

>without the big brand
Xiaomi is the world's fifth largest smartphone manufacturer

>is it hard to install the play store
It'll have it out of the box if it has the Global ROM

as someone who's been on many short and long flights,
when you're lucky enough to get a port, it charges so slowly you may as well not use it

>you make water proofing next to impossible

*cough* S5 *cough*

I don't even use spare batteries, but going on flights makes me wish i had some

>The worst was Samsung Pay
That's actually one of the few samsung bloat features that actually is pretty universally loved by the community at large.

Many MANY people wish other phones offered smasung pay, having a phone that works on pretty much ANY credit card reader from the past 35 years is pretty damn handy. The only type of reader it doesnt work on is the insert type readers at ATMs and gas stations. Any swipe reader works without issue however.

>>>you make water proofing next to impossible
>
>*cough* S5 *cough*
Yeah, it worked out so well for them it was the last phone they did with a removable battery.

moron.

Samsung pay is fucking cancer because you can't turn it off. I agree with him.
