What's a better processor than this

What's a better processor than this

...

For heating your apartment, there is no better processor.

Literally everything.

You have to be retarded to think the FX processors were anything but overheating fucking garbage.

The reason why AMD was able to get an over 40% IPC improvement from Bulldozer to Zen is not so much how good Zen is, but how fucking trash Bulldozer was.

Now fuck off and kill yourself.

>what is the i9-7980XE?

Pretty much any mainstream or better processor made after Sandy Bridge.

AMD RYZEN 5 1600X

try a piece of dog shit straight from your mom's ass

>AMD RYZEN 5 1600
FTFY

literally any Ryzen. Even one of the 4c/4t R3 processors are on par if you OC.

>>what is the i9-7980XE?
A way better processor than that fx piece of shit.

Ryzen

>i9
>not xeon

laughing_at_your_poorfag_ass.jpg

>xeon
>not ibm z14
Pleb.

And a way more powerful house fire starter, too.

>Xeon
>Not EPYC

lmaoing_at_your_hebraic_ass.svg

Any decent AM3 boards with good coreboot or libreboot support? Been wanting a nice libreboot/coreboot desktop for a while.

g4560

>And a way more powerful house fire starter, too.
I'm torn about which is worse, because the i9 is a housfire like the fx-9590, but unlike the fx 9590/ oced fx series the i9-7980x at least comes with some performance gains.

The 10 core i9 was bringing water cooling loops to their knees, user, just imagine the throttlefest and explosions that will be the 18 core.

Performance is better, definitely, but certainly not worth the price or the heat, especially since Threadripper exists.

have they ironed out all the problems with linux yet?

anything above the r5 1600 (including it) is a worthy upgrade.

Fixed as of June

So should I get the i5 or r5 1700

For now. Give it another month and in traditional AMD fashion it'll be out of date and fucked. Not sure why AMDfags put up with it.

R5 1600
Ebin

Zilog z80

wtf are you even talking about?

>Performance is better, definitely, but certainly not worth the price or the heat, especially since Threadripper exists.
>Performance is better
Exactly the reason why I'm torn about considering it as bad as the fx line up. I'm not going to recommend an i9 it to anyone unless they somehow fit a very specific crowd, but I also can't say that it's as bad as the fx series.

The fact that AMDfags put up with AMD hardware breaking every time there's a software update.

>r5 1700
That would be an R7 1700.

>considering an i5
no.

You forgot the 200w tdp and crappy thermal paste intel used.

I5 since ryzen is still fucking garbage

>CPU
>software update

Are you really this retarded?

i5's are obsolete. Even the K series can't save them. If you even consider an i5, it should be the upcoming 6 core 6 thread Coffee Lake.

ryzen is only garbage if you're into running vms on linux/bsd, or playing certain games. It's okay for most peoples use cases.

>radeon and amd's cpu divisions are the same
ayy lmao

ayy lmao

I just bought an i3-7350k for $80. r8 me.

Pretty guud.

I have a legitimate question, I have the 8320 but I also have an Intel system with a 2400s but I can upgrade it to a 3770 or a 3770k.... I'm in a need of cash would selling off my 8320 system and buying either 3770 be a good solution?

If you're going that route definitely get the 3770K, the non-K is pretty trash.

...

AMDGPU is rock solid.
If anything, Nvidia's proprietary driver breaks on every kernel update and noveau is sadly unusable.

Thnx fren

Open source amd drivers are good. The proprietary amd drivers are garbage though.
>Nvidia's proprietary driver breaks on every kernel update
I haven't had any issues with nvidia proprietary drivers as of yet, so what am I in for?

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because of Threadripper. And yeah, at least it performs decently, so it's arguably better then the FX series.

The only thing the FX is good for is super cheap multi core builds

>I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because of Threadripper.
It really depends on use case, and budget.

anything

Basically everything. Even my mouse has got better processor than this garbage.

>have they ironed out all the problems with linux yet?
Not really.
>Fixed as of June
Some issues have been resolved-ish.

GIgabyte can suck my fucking asshole, somehow even the brandest-new kernel refuses to go past my choosing to install. Its what I get for falling for the ITX meme

>if you're into running vms on linux/bsd,
Why is ryzen bad for VMs?

>or playing certain games
what games?

this guy

Yea I don't get this. If anything with the cores and threads it should be BETTER for VM's

No, not really. At $999, the 1950X will tear apart the 7900X in everything except for pure single-core performance, which means fuckall on the HEDT side of things, and you're better off getting a 7700K at that point.

If you're just running an OS or doing anything multi-threaded an 8350 is around 90% as an i7 for less than half the cost, not bad. Single threaded sucks but that's your 'muh games' argument I guess.

>the i9 is a housfire like the fx-9590

Even the 7900X is in a totally different league to the 9590. The latter doesn't even come close in terms of power draw.

Try using the threadripper for vms on linux, and then you'll understand what I mean when I say it depends on use case, and budget. it doesn't matter if itr's $999, or a dol'ar. If it's unfit for someones use case then I wouldn't recommend it to a person whether it's made by amd, or intel

FX are comfy, i donated my fx/board/memory to my brother and hes very happy with it, he just plays Football Manager and watch sports streams.

How about you give some citation on why it's bad for VM's in Linux? I have heard nothing but the opposite since they fixed the IOMMU stuff.

>How about you give some citation on why it's bad for VM's in Linux?
Ryzen is still affected by the npt bug.
>I have heard nothing but the opposite since they fixed the IOMMU stuff.
>"Fixed"
They "addressed" a single issue, but other issues persist, and I'm not in the mood to track down every amd issue for you, so you'll probably have to do your own research outside of this post.
>I have heard nothing
This is your own fault user.

brace for rollbacks when shit literally just stops working

What's the point of using a powerful processor on an operating system where you can't do anything with it

Thats just silly. I have had this proc for several years with no temp issues

>CPU software updates

What the fuck am I reading. Are you talking about BIOS updates?

I run an 8350 and it runs hotter than my GPU. I also live in a shitty studio apartment and can confirm this shit runs hot as all fuck. I'll probably go Ryzen 5 for the lower power draw and heat

Everything post Bloomfield from Intel, Everything from Ryzen.

>r5 1600
what motherboard would you guys suggest?

It's good for VMs in general but PCIe passthrough is trash because of a bug in AMD CPUs or microcode since FX. You only have to worry about it for passthough though, but if you're a gamer or need to do 3d modeling in Windows Intel is your only option. Gaming on a Ryzen VM is a complete stutterfest, Wendell may have said it's playable but it's hard to recommend.

this. X is for kids.

Fuckin everything

The white edition

But the NPT bug shouldn't matter if you aren't doing PCI-E passthrough.

In terms of price range. Phenom ii x4 or x6. Better single thread performance. Not a house fire.

Upgraded my ancient NAS to a R5 1600 on B350, and tried gaming VM on ryzen earlier today for shits and giggles. There are issues with windows 10 VMs and multicore compatibility with ryzen, as well as stuttering issues. But it works fine on a single core, and I only need the VM to run torrents and remote access.

The worst part is that the IOMMU groups are awful enough for me to think it's intentional; The ryzen platform is much targeted at the consumer level, and at most, you can only push light VMs loads on top of a headless NAS boxes.

Anything more and you're looking at HEDT or server grade hardware.

dunno senpai i love my 6300

Not anymore. The Intel i9s have taken that crown

>1800X clocks
>Automatic 4.1 Ghz
>Faster or equal in most workloads than 1700
>50 dollars cheaper than 8 cores
>20 dollars more than lesser 6 cores

How could so many people be so wrong about the 1600X?

Are you using a shitty stock cooler? I overclocked my 6350 to nearly 5 Ghz and it never gets hotter than 60ยบ with a 20$ Hyper 212 EVO cooler...

AMD BTFO

The greater good!
>Greater good

If we take time of release into account, i don't think there is any CPU that ever given so much trouble for intel as this bad boy.
>25 dollars compared to the 180 you needed to pay on an 8080 or 6800
>completely trounced the 8080 in terms of IPC
>shared the whole 8bit generation with the Z80, that was also not an intel or motorola chip

it was shit at the time

Literally everything

and its still shit

Ryzen 1600-1700

>homosexualmark

R5 1600 here and I installed Fedora with no issues

g4560

Brian pls go.

>ryzen is affected by a bug in software
FTFY.

It's been plaguing AMD CPU's since FX and it still hasn't been fixed. The IOMMU issue was fixed fairly quickly, AMD have acknowledged NPT bug but there hasn't been any updates at all. It's either extremely difficult or impossible to fix. Supposedly Xen work ok (haven't tried it so I can't say) s but KVM is a nonstarter on AMD.

>what games?
The same games that ryzen couldn't hit a consistent 30-40 fps on. I'd list them, but people would downplay the importance of those games, and just post aots benchmarks.

None of the ryzen bugs, or faults ever matter.

The ebin gen 8 bendium beat this shit out of the house, let alone an gen 7 i5 or Ryzen.
