Most phone manufactures have included adapters for people who use headphones. Since phones are getting better battery life listening while charging isn't a big issue for me.

I'm a keyboard player and have tons of music gear that takes 1/4" ts and trs jacks, some take 3.5mm trs jacks for headphones, and a lot of stuff takes 3.5mmm trs jacks for "monitoring" inputs, so you can practice with an ipod or whatever.
Thats the only reason I still like having a headphone jack on my phone, because I have loads of comparable stuff. the jack itself isn't good though imho, you have to spend loads of $ on expensive cables if you want to reduce the noise as much as possible, which really becomes frustrating. It really becomes an EM interference nightmare if you're running long cables and high impedance. The fact that you're supposed to turn on all your gear first and your speakers last is indicative of the problem. there's a lot of pixies flying downstream that aren't coming from your source. and even then you're still dealing with the often shoddy construction of the jack and its connection to the board. they're problems that are just waiting to be solved by a digital system but so far nobody has done it well enough to work in real time with low enough latency to work for musical instruments.
You could probably replace some of that with optics. It's been around for a while.

I own this phone and with my load (gaming music youtube netflix snapchat video and photo editing and more cpu intensive tasks) it lasts about a 1.5 day, mostly almost half battery at the end of the day
