Laptop General Thread

what are the laptops with the best displays on the market right now, I'm looking for something sub $2000 with great color accuracy, wide gamut, and decent brightness. i found this laptop which looks like the best screen on a sub $2000 laptop that doubles as a gaming machine, is this my only option? gigabyte.us/Laptop/AERO-15

i won't be using it for gaming specifically, but id like something with high specs since ill want longevitivity from it, a minimum of 5 years i want to keep this laptop.

also general laptop thread without thinkpad elitists please

>13-2350m

just get a mac

>Shitty retina displays

Uh, I don't think OP is that poor… Laptops with 4K displays exist.

>uncalibrated 4k displays with shitty backlight bleed just so they can check off a box on the spec sheet
>better
yeah, no

>Applel displays
>shitty 8-bit panels

Lmao

Just bought this.

Waiting for it to come in

>gaming laptops after all these years are finally no longer a meme

Thank you based pascal.

>7700hq basically same perf as i5 7600k (all u need 4 games) (wont bottle neck even a titan xp)
>full fat gtx 1060 for gaming on the go
> Alienware Graphics Amplifier for gaming at home
>Only eGPU option that actually uses direct PCIe
> light af at only 5 pounds
> great battery life
> premium build quality

Can't fuckin wait for it to get here at the end of the week.

oh yeah also

>OLED Display
>steel plate backed keyboard
>2.2mm travel

mmmmmmmmmm

...

What specs should I look out for in a relatively new fullstack dev machine?

does alienware pull that rub "sections" bullshit like mis does?

what's the poorest poorfag laptop i can possibly get? willing to install the ugliest de possible for stability too

>rub "sections"

Elaborate?

RGB* the Mi mix is a good phone but the autocorrect is a bit wonky when you first get it

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

whats your top budget?

Enjoy your shitty t500 nightmarefuelpad, faggot.

around 60-100 bucks is about as low as it goes for modern day usability mixed with old as fuck but still good enough qualities.

>gaming laptop

Defend that purchase big boy, hope you enjoy your overpriced Christmas tree of a laptop

It defends itself?

Precision/latitude tier build quality
god tier keyboard
god tier OLED screen
light
Portable
powerful

It doesn't have excessive LEDs, i like that the keyboard LED and Trackpad LED are customizable, so that's a subjective bonus for me. If you don't like that shit, you can disable it all.

it was 1500 dollars on sale. You can probably find a cheaper gaming laptop, but it won't have this level of build quality.

The alien asthetic is pretty fucking dumb but it feels pretty minimal in the over all design compared to previous iterations.

>Logo
>power button
>back of the screen

I'm a chick so I like customizing my shit and making it look pretty. Precisions are NEVER pretty, but they are among the most well made laptops in the world. This is the best of both.

Normally I'd agree, but as I said early. 2017 is the first year gaming laptops are reasonably decently possible. At no point in history has perf/watt been good enough. It's only barely there, but its enough for me to want to try. If it sucks i'll fuckin sell it and build a ryzen machine and go back to using a used e7440.

I dick around on old laptop hardware and os's too much, man handle the shit out of them. I'd be far too afraid to have a modern needle dick laptop.

I'm waiting for this to come out.
>1060 max q
>thunderbolt 3
>4k option
>good build quality
>no retarded gaymer asthetics besides red accents
the only con seems to be 54w battery, but it's fast charging so might not be too bad.

Is there a laptop that has "MacBook" build quality while also having a slim profile, magnetic charger cable and having a nice design?

Not trying to start shit, genuine question as I look for my new laptop

The only one would be the Surface laptop

And you DO NOT WANT that fucking peice of garbage.

do any of you fags have a system76 laptop? I'm thinking about picking up a oryx pro with a few upgrades

link to product page?

Aren't the Max Q's basically just gimped versions of the usual card? Like the Max Q 1080 performs like a 1070 I thought.

Not quite but almost yeah. Most reviewers argue its on the fence.

apple.com/shop/product/FJLQ2LL/A/refurbished-154-inch-macbook-pro-22ghz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display

Well at least you have a back up plan.

So how does the Q 1060 compare to the 1050Ti?

Notebookcheck.com knows

Hello Sup Forums. I don't know much about laptops but right now I'm in need of a new one. I don't need something fancy or expensive, just want that will run fairly well, have decent storage, and look decent graphics-wise. I also hate touch screens so I'd rather avoid them. What should I get?

Want something with a GTX 1060
Lenovo Y720 or Apache Pro or Clevo
Have a 960M Clevo but it's fucky

store.hp.com/us/en/ConfigureView?catalogId=10051&langId=-1&storeId=10151&urlLangId=&catEntryId=1771653&quantity=1

I configured this HP Omen with a GTX 1070, 512gb nvme and a i7 7700 for under $2000.

Dell 7567 or x230?

What is decent graphics wise?

Dell inspiron gaming laptops are good build quality.

Better than shit but less than good

Hp sucks shit right from the ass hole my friend. Get a Dell.

So like Intel HD 620 is not totally awful.. But you know a gtx 1050 beats it hand over fist so be more specific you shit face

Can someone give me a recommendation for something either used or new that is

1. Sub let's say $600
2. Has a highish res screen, at least not 1366x768
3. Is max 13"
4. Isn't Intel Atom shit

I have an x230 now but can't stand the screen res. I'm contemplating getting a Chromebook Pixel and booting linux, since that has a great screen for the price, but not sure if I'll end up doing that.

get a thinkpad p51 with a good gpu or a p71 off of the lenovo online outlet, you can get it for like 950 USD and it'll last you easily 10 years

i got one with a xeon cpu, m2200m gpu for 900 usd, fuck yes

Latitude e6440 refurb

GET A THINKPAD FROM THE LENOVO ONLINE OUTLET

I wish deluded thinkfaggots would fuck off.

I own the aero 15 ama

>own

scroll down, list of laptops with one of these there

>gigabyte garbage

Rip

Gonna piggyback onto this thread. Suggestions on a good laptop for students for under 800? Ssd preferred

Excuse me I watched a dave2d video and he said it was really good he even had a thermal camera and told me it had high nits u think I know what the fuck a nit is but I bought it anyway

There are thousands faggot be more specific.

Fuck off or go buy a chromebook.

This, HP build quality is 0/10 you're guaranteed to have problems

Just bought an xps 13 at Costco for $1300

Specs:
i7 kaby lake dual core 4 thread
16gb ddr3 1866
512gb samsung SSD

The screen is amazing. If you have a Costco nearby I highly recommend it. The price was marked "$300 off $1600," but that's the base price. With the above specs and free copy of office it comes in at over $2,000.

Sounds like it came in at 1300 for you

Chromebook not sufficient, need to run exam software that only runs on windows or mac. The question implicitly asks what the best I could do for 800 is. Good battery life is a plus, not going to be used for gaming. Ssd because I need it for traveling around, i3+ 4gb+ 128gb+? I don't know what else I could add.

What model?

Specifically what model that satisfies 13" or less and a non-shit screen resolution?

amazon.com/dp/B06WVMJ713

*$2,000 from dell

Isn't this 14"

>a chick
just say trans female

We will believe you.

well, how are you enjoying it?

The only difference there is your insecurity

I love the way they look but 960M to 1050 Ti isn't a worthwhile upgrade to me

Post feet

Looks good man thanks, does the video card impact battery life when word processing?

It's alright, the screen is nice. Although I think this thread has derailed. I got the black option because I can't pull off an orange or green laptop

Heat issues?

I'm thinking to get the 13" one, after a long search, it is the only one checked all the boxes.
But, is it wise to buy now, or wait for the better Nvidia and CPU this year?

>literally 3 times the performance
>fatty 1050 Ti is equal to a 980m
>its not worth it

Nigga please

The 7700HQ doesn't bottleneck even a 1080Ti.

We might get a CPU refresh but I'm thinking it'll take another 6 months

So you can be a waitfag or just buy whats available right now and when what evers next comes out, if its a reasonable upgrade to you, buy it and sell the other thing, or dont.

Volta wont be releasing for another 6 months. Laptop Variants will take at least as long if not longer.

When are we gonna have ryzen based laptops?

>The 7700HQ doesn't bottleneck even a 1080Ti.
I'm not a gaymer, so games bottlenecks doesn't concern me, however, I do 3D design and I travel a lot, that's why CPU upgrade (maybe ryzen, 8 cores) will be great.

I guess you need to look at what software you're personally running and decide for yourself.

No idea, I don't own it.

>Guy recommends a gaming laptop
>I'm not going to be gaming

Lol

Do you want performance or size? I can find you a nice refurb business laptop from eBay. They have significantly better build quality and are much better to type on, have better screens, etc, and are way fucking cheaper.

No heat issues so far, I have edited 4k video in premiere with the laptop on my lap and it's gotten warm but not unbearable

The only thing you're going to get better in a laptop is the 7820hq unless you shell out a fucking mint for some Xeon or a literal 8000 dollar desktop gpu in a laptop house fire.

ASUS has a ryzen 7 in the pipeline, but fuck asus their build quality is shit and their warranty support is the worst in the world.

So guess you get to be a waitfag then rippo!

Not planning on gaming on this whatsoever, I have a desktop for that. This is just for grad school exams and doing some word processing and reading on the go.

are the new kaby lake U series chips going to be any good or is it safer just to wait till coffee lake?
quad core 13 inch machines sound really good on paper.

who are the ghosting issues user, is the screen size decent with games, any throttling or stutters?

how is the screen brightness on it, also is the color accuracy a gimmick or is it worth shelling out. any issues that might cause regret?

>>no retarded gaymer asthetics besides red accents
And the star wars jet pack on it's ass

With these types of laptops the intel graphics kick in when you're not playing games. This leads to lower temps, almost no fan noise, and increased battery life. When I start gaming I get around 30-45 minutes of battery life. When I am just typing and browsing I get around 3 hours.

Who the fuck puts a laptop on payments?

Acer Aspire E5-575G is my laptopfu

I don't do much work where color accuracy is important, but it's clearly not a gimmick

No ghosting, screen feels small but above 60 fps on pubg 1080p ultra. That's with Adobe cc and Ms office loaded

whats the response time for the panel, i read somewhere that it was in the 28ms range, is it shit for fast paced multiplayer games?

>7700hq basically same perf as i5 7600k (all u need 4 games) (wont bottle neck even a titan xp)

i5 7600k is a bottleneck for titan xp, even if you clock it to the same speeeds as a 7700k.

my reaction time sucks so it could be bad and I wouldn't be able to tell you

just look, there are hundreds in stock

>Acer
Are their power supplies and jacks still shitty and unreliable?

> 7700hq basically same perf as i5 7600k (all u need 4 games) (wont bottle neck even a titan xp)

What is meant by bottleneck here? For me to say that a CPU dont bottleneck, would mean that another CPU wouldnt increase the fps in a multitude of games. Games still benefits from clockspeed so the 7700hq would be a bottleneck compared to 7700k and many newer games benefits from a increase of threads so the i5 7600k bottlenecks in these.

Calling bullshit here. 7600k has like 7% less single thread performance than the 7700k. if it does bottleneck it has to be like a 3% loss tops.

Can you even provide a single fact to back that up?

It's simple, if the CPU is maxed out, and the GPU isn't, and it's a demanding game and your performance doesn't match up what others are getting in online benchmarks, then there is a bottleneck.

the 7700HQ doesn't bottleneck the 1080 Ti. That will not change. When volta launches, the GV102 will probably get bottlenecked by it.

Great machine, got mine some days ago but with a i5-6300HQ. I won't get HDR support and lost a lot of CPU performance but the OLED (only reason to buy this) was all worth it.

What about Acer is reliable at any point ever? Even their fucking 8 grand joketop that weighs 24 pounds has shitty fucking build quality and design.

I probably should've kept mine cheaper, but it's gonna be a desktop replacement. Can't wait to see the OLED screen.

Why laptop batteries sucks ass

Do a 5% grey test on your screen so you can exchange it if necessary before warranty runs out. OLED panel quality on laptops and tvs's is a gamble so better safe than sorry.

It's not coming in till Thursday.

Any other tests you'd recommend? Why the grey test specifically?
