Portable Music Player thread

post pmps / daps / etc

whats the point of having a portable player other than your phone?

i have ie80s and cant tell a difference between plugging them into my phone or my amp and dac at home

this everything else is consumerism or autism

I just bought one because I didn't want to waste the battery / storage space on my phone. If phone batteries lasted like 800 hours I wouldn't bother.

What ear buds are those op they look comfy as fuck

Is there one of these that would be ideal for audiobooks? Specifically something that could keep your place when you have to put it down?

pause the audio book? are you retarded?

>showing off with 16bit lossy

shamefoo displaaa desu !

Why does that make me retarded..? Smart Audiobook Player on Android does it? I can pause it, go to sleep, start up the app and it keeps my place.

higher than 16bit is actually worse for listening

i meant you can do that without getting a dedicates audio book player

Tenmak pros aka shure se215 ripoffs.

I guess using something besides my phone and then using like VBR MP3s is a bit of a waste, but it doesn't sound bad to me and it lets me save SD card space.

I'll try some flac shit one day to see if I think it is worth the switch.

Battery life, size, storage capacity, physical controls, personal preference

unless youre conparing flac files to youtube quality its not worth it

Do I seriously have to explain my rationale behind everything? If you don't have a recommendation, fuck off. Why the hell are you even posting?

ROCKBOX DAP
OR NOTHING

shut up

>using a dap

My ruizu x02 saves the time of the last thing played and also has bookmarks for the audio

This. Oukitel K10000 Pro if you think "muh battery life" is important.

I'm excited for the V30 and it's built in quad DAC.

So instead of buying a pmp you suggest people change their phones?

K

>why
because my phone is pic related and makes the tinniest sound come from anything you connect it to

>autism
this goes without saying here

...

What is the point of portable amps?

Pretty sure every DAP can drive IEMs, so why do they need amplification?

look at this fucking guy and laugh.. i play 24/96 flac on my iphone with this app

the phone has great sound by itself and when i want to go full autismo i hook up my extenal dac...

its not so much down to the equipment but your library... source is everything... there are two types of people in this world

people who have a terabyte of lossy
people who have a terrabyte of hd lossless

collectors vs connoisseurs if you must

fucking hell that pic is cringe worthy ... i have that ipod 5g and it sounds like weak flabby ass... yuck.. and yeah amps only make sense for high z cans

My 2nd iPod Classic 120gb finally died.

What do?!

throw it in the bin

128gb iphone 6s and Canopener App.... aquire hires play 24/48 never look back *taps sholder* its for the best

>people who actually listen to music vs people who listen to anime music if you must

>no audible difference between 320kbps and flac

get a ipod to cf adapter, then a cf to SD and then put in a 128gb SD if youre just going to get another ipod

i think they sound like shit compared to my fiio x1 though

Later iPods can just use an iFlash without the intermediate step of IDE/ZIF->CF->SD

Can anyone recommend me a PMP that's good to leave in the car hooked up to a usb power hub, and the aux input?

Not sure how annoying playlists would be without a visual display though.

Also my car keeps charging things when its off, so preferably something that detects its off and enters sleep mode, or otherwise uses very little power so it doesnt kill my cars battery...

any iPod

They wont fry up in the car heat?

Probably not, depends how chinky your battery is. My 3rd generation is fine sitting in the car all day aside from its black and white screen's contrast changing slightly.

I'm still rocking my Rockbox'd Sansa Clip+. It's the only PMP I'll ever fucking need. The only degradation that's happened in the ~10 years I've owned it is that I've lost two hours off of the battery life. Use it at work every day.

Yeah and (sadly) im still using iphone so asking me to get an ipod isnt too much of an ask; I already have itunes cancer on the pc anyways, so.

I have a PC specifically for iTunes since it doesn't work properly in Wine.

Its better that way anyways since itunes is a cancer. Always manages to run all these excessive processes. Its best to keep your linux clean and pure.

Fix it

Just in case no one knows what I'm talking about, this is a clip+. Not my personal one, but I chose this picture because it's the "now playing" screen I chose out of the hundreds available. Also comes with an FM tuner, which you can record through, and a voice recorder.

Is that an iPhone? Which one? Which app?

autism

I have a 6G iPod Nano that lives in my center console pretty much 24/7 and has been doing so for years without issue. (In a black car in Southern California, too, so plenty of heat.) My car has USB and everything is controlled through the head unit, though, a Nano like mine would be a pain to use manually while driving.

I'm not sure if my car's head unit knows to fast forward tracks through the 3.5mm jack the way some headphones do, but ill try

What players are these? Also what in-ear monitors?

Don't forget people like me, who's only PMP is their phone, because they don't have music that they don't stream

>being a slave to your internet connection

iem tenmak pro
shanling m1 / xduoo x2

Why would I use anything else

I'm not sure if any head units have that kind of functionality, mine is all USB and gives you track info etc. on the LCD. (It's a factory navigation etc. setup.)

physical buttons
battery life
software security (no wifi/bt)

i think the answer to this question is any ipod you dont mind getting stolen....lol

the app is called "Canopener" and i seem to be the only one on Sup Forums that uses it... it needs to be memed because it is fantastic... best player on iOS IMHO

its a player for ios that
-plays 24 bit flac (96k on external dac, will play 96k and downsample to 24/48 on the fly when just using iphone (iphone cirrus logic chipset is capped at 24/48)
- has the best crossfeed algo i have heard ... great for iems
- has 2 seperate eq's that are the best i have heard
-can disable dithering (sounds great)
-great ui
-drag and drop into app from linux use as my primary player
- different preset profiles for different headphones u own
-cheap only a couple of $

Chinkshit 4 life

>listening to music

Attempting to ressurect my Sansa Fuze v2 w/ latest Rockbox. It took a nasty fall and looks like total shit, screen covered in scratches, but still works. Going to see if the battery still holds a decent charge.

This.
Ok, you're an iFag so you aren't that smart to begin with, but you can't be such an idiot to believe that live downsampling will play any better than previously downsampled (from the masters or with soxr resampler) FLACs. Or that 24 bits depth matter for anything besides editing/mastering. Or that you'll be able to perceive any difference from an high bitrate lossy with some earphones.
But hey, it seems you're really an idiot since you suggest you use sometimes an external DAC for a phone. And you even apply a live equalizer at the end of it. Blissful ignorance
I'm sure you feel fuzzy and warm since you paid some dollars for that app anyway.

last quote was for

>camo

I live dangerously

I still use my Zune platinum from time to time
Kinda feel bad since I bought it mint from an old guy on craigslist for $40. I don't think he did his research to see it's worth over $100

how does it sound compared to a modern > 2014 smartphone ?

> kz-ate
muh nigga

It's pretty damn good.
I wish I didn't have to use the zune software on my pc though. I wish I could sync it us using musicbee or something more aesthetically pleasing and something I actually use.
But overall its a great player
The UI on it is a bit funky, but the damn thing is 7-8 years old so I can't knock it.
>/csg/ threads got me hooked

Headphone jacks are going away.

Any players that can do .cue ?

Anything that Rockbox supports

What player is the one on the right?

"No"

If say neck yourself but you are already dead inside

On phones maybe. All the more reason to get a DAP my man.

This lad knows.

is there a cheap/ok underwater pmp? because I took a look around and they all look pricey/shit and I don't want friends when I go lap swimming.

Thinking about getting one of these for my kid; she lost her ipod shuffle, & is too young for a phone...can you load songs from itunes on it?

>& is too young for a phone
You are a good parent.

...

LoL, try telling her that kids about to start 6th grade in the morning, & she's already been the only kid in her class without one for several years. She nags incessantly, but I'm not even considering it until she can help pay for it herself.

...going back to this thing though, do you know if it'll play itunes songs? I figured I'd ask here, as I'm really not a "Sup Forums" guy...thank you

...

Nevermind, it plays them...thank you!

What's the best theme for a rockboxed clip+?

Is there anything for using while driving (larger font but keeps functionality)

So you have shit ears then? Shouldn't have bothered to buy the ie80. Unless they're the chink knock offs.

This seems dumb

I only use portable music players in the gym when I wear shorts with no pockets in them. Sansa clip is a godsend in such situations.

When I go for a run

DKFT Minimum Clip is the one I've enjoyed using for years. I also like Yawps which has less details but is easier to read.

Why would anyone buy anything other than a cowon D? by de D mean the ones that have 50-100 hours of batery.

Already have an old C2 and it has hold up but im looking at the ruizu a50 and what makes the shanling m1 cost twice as much just for bluetooth, better firmware and bluetooth. Any comparations between the 2?

best digital media coming in

Oversized SD cards.

>perfect cd quality
>durable as fuck
>to be handled like a taggable cassette
underage pls leave

I wish there was a custom firmware for the xDuoo X2

>whats the point of having a portable player other than your phone?
So I don't have to use my fucking phone to play music. Oh man I totally love having to pull out my big ass Note whenever I wanna change the song or my settings, and I especially keep it on my person during my morning jog because it definitely doesn't slap against my skin as it jangles about in my track pants pocket.
What I'm saying is that just because you don't want or need one doesn't mean other people are in the same boat as you. It's like when those retards go into a watch thread and ask why they need one when their phone and clocks show the time.

I'm most likely older than you and none of those counters my point of them being oversized SD cards.

Cassettes are better anyway.

OP pic is mine, the shanling m1 is better. The X2 I got a. only read one folder with one song on my SD card for some reason, and b. has such shit build quality. The large middle button gets stuck down so easily and all the buttons feel like garbage.

It's cheap as hell so wasn't expecting much, but kind of disappointed since I like the form factor.

even with my budget headphones there is a day and night difference between my pmp and phone. you can try visiting the doc to get your ears flushed then wear earplugs for a whole day or two. if there is still no difference then either your ears are fucked or your audio setup is simply crap.

>Cassettes are better anyway.
no, they are not. i still collect them and have a high end deck in use, but minidisc is far superior.

The M1 has an actually pleasing design.
Considering ruizu's track record don't expect a good firmware. Some people already confirmed it doesn't even look like the promo pics (not like that is good anyway).
Also the M1 has tons of niche features. It's not high end in terms of audio but is very usable.

Better in the sense there is at least some difference between that format and digital. Blank media is cheaper and new releases are plentiful as well.

Minidisc is literally just transferring digital files to a disc for a portable player - identical to an SD card and dap.

I had pic related until I traded it for a ipod classic. The audio is noticeably worse, though the battery is significantly better (a 1900mah battery lasts over a week on a charge, and this is with HDD), and is comfier to hold (the m2 has sharp edges and heats up like crazy).
Anyway that thing broke and I decided to give up on DAPs. Using my phone with opus 96k now, audio is acceptable.

>2011 receive a Sansa Fuze as a christmas gift
>Not the greatest thing but surprisingly it was actually pretty good, start using it constantly instead of my phone for portable listening
>Couple years later got it strapped to my arm and I'm smashing through the woods on bike
>Oh shit a tree!
>Get flung off my bike hard, slam into some logs breaking my arm from the fall
>And my Fuze
I got better shit now but I'll never forget how much quality Sandisk puts into its products because of that player.

Don't have a smartphone.
