CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (R3 1400 - If you need multithreading
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use, not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM, 3200 MHz is ideal

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

Deciding on a B350 mobo for my build, got it down to 3 contenders based on availability where I live:
>MSI PC Mate, cheapest has USB C
pcpartpicker.com/product/c2DzK8/msi-b350-pc-mate-atx-am4-motherboard-b350-pc-mate

>ASRock gaming K4, intermediate price also has USB C
pcpartpicker.com/product/CczZxr/asrock-fatal1ty-ab350-gaming-k4-atx-quad-cpu-am4-motherboard-fatal1ty-ab350-gaming-k4

>Gigabyte Gaming 3, most expensive no USB C
pcpartpicker.com/product/2pnG3C/gigabyte-ga-ab350-gaming-3-atx-am4-motherboard-ga-ab350-gaming-3

Any reason not to get the MSI board? Is there going to be a substantial difference in BIOS updates and whatnot between these manufacturers?

What processor are you going to use?

Do you plan on OC-ing?

R5 1600, yes

pcpartpicker.com/list/jJ6YxY
R8
I already have my HDD and a 7700k

Then the MSI one will be fine, even if you took it to 4GHz the VRMs have plenty good enough heatsinks for the 6-core.

plus the MSI one has an M.2 slot for meme SSDs

Don't get an Nzxt aio. Already about to rma my 3rd one in 8 months because of pump failures. Check their forums or the nzxt reddit, it's full of aio failures.

Ima try and get a refund for mine. Pic related, taking it out to rma... Again

>Already about to rma my 3rd one in 8 months because of pump failures.
I wouldn' put that on NZXT. 95% of all AIOs use the same Asetek pump. Just shit luck of the draw.

I may just go with the Corsair h115i then. I really liked the aesthetics of the x62, but if pump failures are common, maybe the h115i is better, especially with its longer warranty

Well, I picked the GTX 1080 since it would let me upgrade to better shit eventually but I'm definitely not looking to get Win10 so I guess I'll have to rethink this whole thing a bit.

Based on the OP, something like the RX570 would be better for the 1080p60 minimum mark I'm shooting for. What would be a good CPU to pair with this if I intend to run Win7 for at least the next few years?

Win7 vs Win10?

Have been gone a while from the windows world, last time I used windows, it was 7 and it was pretty good. But now I want to play some new games, so I can I trust for win7 to still work for them?

Or does win10 do some magic fuckery so games play better/faster? Or are some games win10+ only?

I pulled the trigger with the MSI board. Thanks.

Well that sucks, definitely gonna ask for a refund and go back to air. Only reason I got an Aio was because Temps would theoretically be better than an air cooler since I have an open air gpu.

>Windows 7
please don't. If you have to use an older version of windows, use Windows 8.1.

Windows 10 can actually take advantage of more cores, so if you have more than 4 cores, you want Windows 8 or newer.

>or does win10 do some magic fuckery so games play better/faster?
only think this applies to DirectX12 games that just started rolling out, since DX12 focuses on muti-thread performance rather than single-thread as has been done since the dawn of man.

What a horrible deal, where was this posted?

Well then, I guess it's worth considering win8/10. I'll only have 4 cores, might up that in a year or so.

Also, is there anything I should watch out for with win8/10? Doesn't it phone home or some scary shit like that?

For windows 10 make sure you don't enroll yourself in a shitty beta that you can't get out of and disable as many data collection features as possible

not OP, but aside from the price, I don't really see anything wrong with it.

Windows 10 is a botnet that collects your metadata to sell to advertisers. It's why you can get it for free on Microsoft's website.
I wouldn't worry about it though. Google and Facebook do the exact same fucking thing.

I'm currently using Windows 10 after having used windows 7 and 8 for a long ass time and it really seems like a night and day difference to me.

Thanks user. Last question - is it worth buying it in store? If I get the home version for something like a 100$, will I regret it? Getting old and lazy to spend time on sifting torrents for that one binary without a rootkit. I'd rather my data go to MS than some kids in russia.

Really, what's the biggest thing that's different?

I'd punch the nigger who would try to rip me off with this trash system

>Really, what's the biggest thing that's different?
ease of use.
Windows 8 was a PITA

Anyone else have any advice? I think I'm ready to go.

Got it, thanks. It'll just be a gaemin machine, might also use it to watch videos or photos or something.

This reads like made up bull shit

I've been using asetek for 7 years and their shit never fucking breaks.

3 in 8 months, you must be doing something wrong.

You can buy the USB installer online. It's what I did, but make sure not to buy the OEM version as that will only work once and if you change your parts you will have to buy again.

The price is the biggest problem but buying a brand new FX-8350 today is just mental.

Been tinkering and settled on this.

uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qVjthq

Any other suggest adjustments?

>FX-8350
>not buying a Ryzen 5 1600 or one of Intel's upcoming 6 core coffee lake chips

The fact remains it's decent for gayming. especially if you don't like monopolies.

I'm just giving my experience dude, and maybe saving this guy a future headache.

At the end of the day I don't get anything if he doesn't buy it, he can still do whatever he wants.

is CORSAIR CMK8GX4M2B3200C16R VENGEANCE LPX RED 8GB
compatible with
MSI B350 TOMAHAWK RETAIL ?
The QVL list has CMK16GX4M2B3200C16R but i dont know if its the same chip.
Will it run at 3200mhz or i am better of with a 2666/3000 ram kit?

shit op

>7700k
AHAHAHHAHAHAH

But it's bad for the price... that's the entire point

Corsair Vengeance should work fine

That looks good. Try to OC your RAM.

oh, it's overpriced by like $500, but it's a decent build though.

>so many dumb people posting on LTT forums
>want to roast the shit out of their retarded purchases like I do in /pcbg/
>know I'd get banned bigtime

It's a hard life not being able to tell people to kill themselves.

What do you mean my 7700k is too much for 1050 Ti??!!

It's rather simple, a 1050 Ti will bottleneck (holding back) the 7700K

What do you mean the Hyper X cloud is shit?

What do you mean 1x8GB of RAM is a bad idea?

What do you mean Asscock boards are dogshit?

What do you mean I'm a retarded faggot for waiting months to save pennies on a GPU after the mining craze (hopefully) dies down?

I want to build a PC for a relative (no overclocking).
Maximum budget is $1000 including windows and a monitor.
Common programs would be older and lower powered games (Minecraft, Sims, Stardew valley) and general web browsing.

Temptation

Nice blog.

Maybe post a pcpartpicker so instead of wasting everyones time with them having to make the choices for you, you can make the choices yourself and we'll correct the retarded ones.

?

I was being sarcastic but that's the type you see. People don't think twice about buying high end processor but flip their shit if you tell them to spend it on graphics card.

newfag

I'm OP's brother, this steal of a deal was memory express in edmonton

You should beat them to death with a hockey stick.

Can I run GTX 1080 Ti and 7700K (overclocked) on my case's included 400W PSU?

Yeah dude sounds great so long as you enjoy smoke inhalation.

I have a question about Power Down Enable (for memory) which is an option in my BIOS. From a search I understand it's only for low-powered devices and I don't need it enabled on my desktop? I was reading an AMD blog post about OC'ing memory and came across the option while following along (which isn't mentioned in the article).

community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2017/07/14/memory-oc-showdown-frequency-vs-memory-timings

The general consensus is that Ryzen r5/r7 will give you better overall performance for less money then anything intel has to offer for the moment.

What are you even doing on the LTT forums to begin with?

I have literally nothing else better to do.

Maybe in more multithreaded tasks, but im pretty much only gaming, and i got my 7700k for 250 so the price pound for pound is much better than an r7 for gaming

is it safe to assume that $500 is the new price floor for any decent gpu and this wont ever be changing? I highly doubt current demand is still from crypto fags, its probably artificially restricted but too many people are willing to pay the premium anyway.

Even in gaming, the difference is minimal. the R5 1600 can match the 7700k in a number of titles and is only slightly slower in others. You'll never notice the difference between 138fps and 144fps

the difference is only really minimal in 4k gaming where the GPU becomes the bottleneck. In 1080p and 1440p the changes range from 10-30% in favor of the 7700k. On a budget, the R5 1600 is definitely a better purchase, but for a high end gaming build, the 7700k is still a more attractive option, especially for high refresh rates.

For sale, $999, no low ballers.

Wow, what a steal, whoever picks this badboy up is surely getting a bargain.

>cable management
>CX750
>HSF orientation

not the place, retard
also way too high

A joke, my dude.

My GPU, an old sapphire hd 7870 died recently. Is there any safe way if its dead for sure? I tried but i dont receive a signal from the card anymore, just a blue screen when starting the pc.
But to my main question: Im on a budget for upgrading atm and want a inbetween solution for the next 1,5 years. Is the GTX 1050(Ti) my choice of card?

1050ti is exactly what you are looking for. Its not the greatest bang for buck, but its the only half decent gpu available in that price range. You could also consider the 1060 3gb but I fear its a bad investment at this point.

>Is there any safe way if its dead for sure?
Have you tried a fresh install of windows with older drivers? Reseting the BIOS? Testing it in another computer? If it's truly dead you could try the baking method. Otherwise you could also look into a used gpu.

pcpartpicker.com/list/pQnZM8
Best budget build,
>fucking miners
only 6 pin 1050ti is$180
1060/6 is $280
RX is being held captive
only hope is older gen cards in local sales.

fuck it, I could get a 1500x prebuild with a 580 from Ibuycyberdildos.fag for 800 or less.

Hate myself for not picking up an rx 480 8gb for 200. Kms pls

No offense, but if you paid that much for a GPU and CPU (like a grand?) then why not play just a drop more to SECURE those and make sure they have no problems and get a better PSU?

Seems like common sense no?

It was a sarcastic response to the dude who mentioned retarded posts of this nature he was reading on Low Test Tips forums

...

>Try to enter that XFX art contest for an RX 580
>Spend week sketching my ass off coming up with brand concepts out the ass
>Realize I can't paint, and also that painting is a horrible artform
Oh right.

t. artlet

Redpill me on this board

Sketching: Make an approximation of something quickly and with the ability to be relatively accurate

Painting: Make a relative approximation of something slowly and tediously by pushing paint around until something looks vaguely like the thing you're trying to represent.

Okay fags, random question. I have a 4790k, do I upgrade to coffee lake when it releases or spend my money on a new GPU?

ASS

ROCK

You'll be fine on the 4790K, no need for covfefe lake

Here is my build right now. Any recommendations, besides ram?

That is what I was thinking; just wanted some input.

Basically, there's nothing to redpill. It's got one of the better VRMs of the high-end X370 boards, all of the expected premium features, on-board wireless AC, and it's about $200. Supply limitations were the only reason to consider comparably priced X370 boards back during launch, so it doesn't have any serious competition at this point.

Which means?

Depending on the games you play, maybe video card. For esport garbage like LoL or OW you're fine, if you want to take advantage of other shit @1440p@100+fps you're going to need a 1080 or 1080ti

Will I be able to run Ni no Kuni with this build?
>Pic related
>My list
pcpartpicker.com/list/LybdRG

Also, is there any way to get this down to $700-$800? $900 (Not counting the $150 monitor) seems a bit excessive considering the small amount of money I have. I was thinking about getting an AMD 1400 and 1060 6GB instead of an AMD 1600 and 1050 4gb.

Thoughts?

As I sit here debating how to finalize that 7700K build, I realize that I really don't want to deal with the 7700K's bullshit.

Based on my personal philosophies regarding products and acceptable temperatures, the 7700K is a fucking abomination born of chaos magic.

Took you long enough

I want to play Fallout 4, Doom (2016), Civilization 6, Total War: Warhammer, Star Wars Battlefront II, The Witcher III, and No Mans Sky. Do you think this build would run those games at high settings?
pcpartpicker.com/list/wmh47h

Like, I really sort of think the reason they're giving so many 7700Ks away is because they want to get people loyal to the Intel brand despite the fact that investment in the Intel brand for a 7700K just means they effectively break a broom handle off in your ass. Because Intel doesn't support long term platforms.

And Grand Theft Auto V with Mods.

You think that's bad? Look at Skylake X

I mean, shit, The 7700K is the embodiment is the exact reason why AMD failed in the first place. AMD failed because they became entirely reliant on big, hot, slapdash CPUs that basically tried to brute force everything to make up for technical incompetence. Intel couldn't even fab the fucking 7700Ks to not have a fatal design flaw across every unit.

massive overspend on a case with your budget
look for something at $50 or less
pcpartpicker.com/list/dsTs2R

And yes, before anyone tries to defend Intel, having people putting your fucking processor in a vice to pop the top off to fix the thing you fucked up on is unacceptable.

Having people talking about 90*+ being an acceptable running temperature for hardware is unacceptable.

Sure. The Witcher III seems to be a bit more iffy

youtube.com/watch?v=BHcOeRhBBIc

Maybe need to drop it to medium for 60fps.

For 144 gaming at high settings you want at least 16gb memory @3200 right?

i5 2500kfag here. I have not kept up with processors since I bought this, wtf are you talking about and what did intel do?

Medium is fine for some games but as long as most of them are at high I'm happy.

Intel focused on IPC and
>muh Ghz
So you can get a Core i7 4 core, 8 thread CPU with untouchable single thread performance and will overclock to 5.2 Ghz isi you hit the silicon lottery (4.8-5.0 Ghz if you don't) but the tings use thermal paste between the die and the heat spreader instead of being soldered.
So as a result, new overclockable Intel chips will regularly see temperatures of 90°C, sometimes even with water cooling.
Delidding a 7700K will lower temperatures by a full 30 degrees.
And they do the same thing for the new HEDT Skylake X parts, except those have shy-high TDPs to start with, so they will throttle at 100° even with high end AIO liquid coolers

On the other end of the efficiency scale is AMD's new Ryzen processors. Ryzen still follows the "MOAR CORES!" philosophy of the FX chips, but the architecture isn't hot garbage this time.
AMD's Ryzen 7 1700 is an 8 core, 16 thread CPU priced similarly to the i7 7700K, with similar performance, but just a 65W TDP.

So the 7700K is pretty much the top of Intel's general consumer line at the moment. It's the thing marketed towards gamers. It's a 4.2ghz 4-core that can OC to 5ghz. What it does well, it does well by brute force via single-core performance.

It always runs hot. Very hot. 70* idling hot. And people realized one way to fix this comes down to improper cooling. So they put the chip in a vice and pop the top casing off of it to apply a better thermal solution.

You shouldn't have to do that.
