For almost two decades I have regularly sent suggestions to Logitech that they provide a trackball (& other mice) with a detachable USB cable so that it recharges your battery and provides hi-res/zero-lag/no-sleep mode when it is connected and defaults to a regular wireless when disconnected. The USB cable itself can have the wireless receiver in it, as well as an independent wireless dongle if you want to put the cable away &/or just go mobile wireless with your laptop and leave the cable with your desktop system.
Will Logitech ever listen to a reasonable and critical feature for maximum usefulness & flexibility?
Of fucking course not.
I'd sell one of my nuts to have an 8000 dpi gaming trackball that worked properly, and I'd take out a mortgage on my remaining nut to have a left-hand trackball and software coordination so that I could use both simultaneously in applications and in games, especially to design in and navigate 3D space.
>gaming trackball
>Will Logitech ever listen to a reasonable and critical feature for maximum usefulness & flexibility?
Please fuck off you brainlet.
literally just bought a new m570 2 days ago. Guessing i'll just wear this thing out or buy the MX Ergo to use at work.
>so that it recharges your battery and provides hi-res/zero-lag/no-sleep mode when it is connected and defaults to a regular wireless when disconnected
That's a significant amount of work for something of questionable value. It would have to be implemented entirely in firmware and they couldn't just cheap out by doing it in the windows drivers like they usually do.
>a left-hand trackball and software coordination so that I could use both simultaneously in applications and in games, especially to design in and navigate 3D space
Sounds like you want a Spacemouse.
have anyone made a trackball-like device but with a touchpad instead of a ball? my main gripe with trackballs is that the bearings accumulate gunk no matter what, and you have to clean them every few hours or so.
There's the Apple Trackpad if you don't mind having breath that smells of semen.
What's the point of trackballs? At my work only the older ladies use then. They also use these weird rollermouse devices. Is using a normal mouse that hard?
HOLY FUCK THE NEW TRACKBALL
that's a regular touchpad, what I had in mind was something like in OP's picture, but with steam controller-like touchpad under the thumb
Some people find them faster and more comfortable to use. It's just personal preference.
Or you can get this superior telecom trackball with more controls in wired or wireless for less money.
Truly the superior gaming and work trackball.
I had one of those.
Well two actually, the firdt gen and the third gen refresh.
They were all trash.
Using a wired Elecom Hufe right now. It is better, but not by much.
Will probably replace it with the Ergo when it gets released here.
What do you not like about the Huge, user? It honestly looks perfect to me.
mionix is better
Ball isn't as smooth as it should be.
Falls short of the old mx ball even.
I've got that, tilt wheel helps for ergonomic extra buttons a lot more than having a number pad for your thumb. Only gripe it needs regular AA batteries
That's a bummer, especially since I have one coming in the mail.
That sucks.
If you got the wireless, be aware the dongle range is like six inches max.
If you keep the bearings clean, it is smooth enough for daily use at least.
Do these mice with a million buttons and functions work well with linux?
I'm currently use a 9$ "gaming" mouse that was shilled on LTT, but this looks pretty nice.
The one with the blue marble is currently the best and it's super-cheap, why buy an expensive untested piece of hardware?
The ball is too small in my opinion.
There are far more accurate trackballs out there.
meant for
Brainlet here, what are trackballs used for exactly? What do you use them for? Should I buy a mouse that has one?
You can use it to move your cursor and click around
Um....isn't that the point of the mouse itself, that's like a cup within a cup. I thought the ball thing was for people with disabilities or something.
There is no "mouse" in a trackball.
It's literally a ball attached to the side of a mouse.
Got the wired one, so at least I got that going for me, I guess.
Just got an M570 as well today... oh well, my workplace paid for it anyway.
Yeah, but if you move "the mouse" nothing happens. If you want to move your cursor you have to spin the ball.
That's it, it has the same purpose of a mouse but it use a different approach to do it.
Ah, sounds like a good way to give your thumb its own form of carpal tunnel.
Who is this baby maker?
Apparently using a trackball is far better for you in this regard than a regular mouse
That's very unlikely.
Also, there are finger balls.
it's to move the cursor around with less or near zero wrist movement. Can also use a trackball on any surface, comfortably while reclined on a bed for instance.
The thumb balls are the easiest to get used to if coming from a regular mouse since your hand is in the same position, just moving your thumb instead of your wrist/arm.
The finger balls, kensingtons and such, are a little more precise since you'll probably use two fingers for controlled movement and thumb for button pressing
Both styles are good and after you're used to it are easy to game with, mainly held back by just lower dpi sensors.
I've used thumb ball logitechs for over a decade, it's no worse than using a game pad with joysticks, like a ps4/xbox controller
Hopefully they didn't go cheap on the fucking microswitches like they did on the m570 model. Fuck you Logitech!!
not enough buttons
I've soldered like a dozen switches across my mice to keep them working. the switches are like 50 cents each and soldering them is super easy, so there's that at least
You shouldn't need to do any of that.
I know, it sucks but it happens to all their mice because of cheap shit switches (i had the wired trackman red balls and the wireless blue ones), far faster if you game on them
why do ebay sellers always take the balls out of the trackball mouses before selling them as parts/repair?
niggas love da balls
lillybetrose
this user has it right. Using my M570 right now. Spent the money for lithium ion based AA batteries and thus far, haven't changed it once.
Also it's easy to pop the ball out of the mouse for easy cleaning. $50 well spent.
While I love my Magic Trackpad 2, I still couldn't be without a trackball. My hand and wrist is much better since I switch between the two.
The fuck is wrong with her makeup and why is she wearing a wig
