Its very interesting how most of you are attacking this man for proving that apple really did.t have a good reason for removing the jack. Didnt he say that the thing in the way of of the headphone jack was a somewhat large altimeter? When do you guys need to know your altitude and atmospheric pressure?
He said that the thing in the way was, according to iFixit quoting Apple sources, a vent so that the barometer--air pressure measuring device--inside the phone can get an accurate reading. One use for the barometer is to give you an estimate of altitude.
The vent isn't the barometer itself but it does make sense that a vent to the outside would improve accuracy on an otherwise intentionally well-sealed device. (Yes I know it still has plenty of other holes.) Because it makes sense I wouldn't say that they "did[n']t have a good reason." I also wouldn't say that it was their reason at all. They did it because Apple decides what they want to make and they let the market fall in line behind them. They decided that it was time for the headphone jack to go. I think that's probably the ultimate rationale, period. The inclusion of the vent was just something to make use of the space.
