how come alcohol is legal, despite killing people, while weed is illegal?
Rust or C++?

How much of an issue is data retention with an 850 evo?
I absolutely hate the idea of suddenly falling into a coma and then when you wake up 10 years later all your data is gone cuz the electrons stored within the cells decided to fuck off while you were out and couldn't power it on lel

I've literally never overclocked by hand, so can I just trust an "auto-overclocker" like that? Or should I go back and read some guides and check the settings by hand?
6600k by the way. Yes, I bought it long before Ryzen was a thing.

Just answer the question faggit
Most if not all of the questions posted in sqg can be googled anyways but people chose to post them here anyways because it's better and that's what this thread is literally for
I'm on Linux Mint and I need to make a bootable win7 usb. I have tried everything, but it refuses to boot on my Thinkpad x260. What do I do? I have done the whole Gparted, set flag to boot, tried both ntfs and fat32, all the shitty fucking tools for installing distros etc. Nothing works
No, i will not. You can fucking search it your self faggot
yes you will, or I'll search your ip and come punch you in the face
Which one you nigger
how do I lower the resolution of a webm
the file size is fine but it always says image resolution is too large whenever i try to post it
same way you would with a regular video.
scale=X:Y
I'm trying to use vlc but I'm exactly sure if I'm doing it right because there's no new file in the destination
I'm pretty tech illiterate sorry

Currently have an iPhone 6. Not excited by anything Apple has done on the cell phone front in a long while, and have no interest in the new shit they're coming out with for a million dollars. I'd like to give Android a shot again (last time I tried was Samsung Galaxy S2, which was not great imo).
What are my options for something easily rootable and doesn't come preloaded with a bunch of touchwiz garbage or the like? I'd like something with a large screen (5"+) as well.
I hear Google Pixel XL or OnePlus 5 are good choices. Advice please?
Now that the spotify web player has been killed off for good (rip all my custom radio stations, fucking assholes didn't even let me save them), what are some good alternatives? Redpill me on deezer, is it decent
What's the best external I can get for $160 or less? 3tb is optimal but 2tb is fine too.
Sorry I keep reposting this so much, but it's kind of slightly urgent.

How can I browse Soundcloud from a terminal under Linux? soundcloud2000 exists but Debian 9 doesn't have the right Ruby package.
Last time I did that I got a shitty one.
Then you didnt ask Sup Forums with your selected drives now did you?
LOL i'm a millenial born at the start of the 90's, nice non sequitur ad hom projection though gen Z faggot
Wanna know the reason spotify phased out the classic browser-based web player in the first place? It's because of dumb mobile gen z fags like you who stream that shit over their smartphones/the spotify app like the good goys they are
Where I work they have guest wifi that employees are not supposed to use.
Supposedly if they see any traffic coming through they can know how did it. Would using a vpn allow me to use their wifi without getting caught?
why are a lot of problems actually fixed by turning it off and on again, or restarting the program that's not working properly?

I want to move my tower from under my desk so I have more leg room, if I move it to the side of my desk it will be right next to the power strip which it is also connected to. Will it be fine?
What makes you think that is even an issue?
it doesn't adress the actual problem (memory leaks or whatever), it's just a temporary solution.
I don't know if it will fuck up my tower with the power strip right next to it.
Because most things start out in a safestate with no critical errors. An error can be seen as a violation of good state, so restarting restores the state and "fixes" the error (temporarily at least). This isn't generally the case for hardware, but it is the case for software outside of rare cases. For example, there are games where you can trigger a softlock and then save your progress with the bad state, which would permanently ruin that save file. Infamous example: youtube.com
std is the namespace. It's so you can scope names of things like functions. Say you wanted to make your own cout function. How would you call it and differentiate it from std::cout? Namespaces.
The way to use cout without std:: is to write "using namespace std" at the top of your program which basically tells the compiler that when you use cout, you really mean std::cout. This is bad practice because you're polluting your global namespace.
What would you even think that?
Can I install a windows vm with pass through on a headless linux server?
I installed lcmark using luarocks install --local
github.com
When trying to include it in my application, lua complains:
/Applications/ZeroBraneStudio.app/Contents/ZeroBraneStudio/bin/lua.app/Contents/MacOS/lua: error loading module 'cmark' from file '/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so':

/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture
Shouldn't luarocks have compiled this correctly for me?
A power strip with my computer, monitor and tv plugged into next to my tower reminds me of the time my uncle told me how his power strip caught flames and burned his carpet.
It shouldn't be a problem.

tradition, I guess. also, alcohol is not a gateway drug, weed can be.
I guess.
>alcohol is not a gateway drug
Retarded. Find me one person who didn't drink alcohol before they tried heroin. Of course you could say, well they probably did a lot of things before trying heroin, you can't say it's causative. Which is why the gateway drug thing is BS in the first place.
If the gateway drug thing is BS in the first place then why are you trying to argue that alcohol is a gateway drug?
I'm not. I'm using the same logic used to designate weed a gateway drug to alcohol, to expose why the whole concept is retarded in the first place.
that was very clarifying, thanks
Seriously guys. I've never overclocked before, and I want to know if having good temps and passing a prime95 torture test (say 24h) is enough to assume the automatic settings are good, or if it's possible they could fuck something up in the long run or be non-optimal and reduce the chip's life expectancy with idiotic settings or something.
Anyone know how to get line spacing in SumatraPDF? Trying to read an epub but there's no spacing at all which makes it look cluttered and difficult to read.
If it can't have line spacing then does anyone know another pdf, epub, cbz etc. reader that's also lightweight?
Why is the Wikipedia page for "Girl" full of naked women? It's not porn (though #6 is hot), but it's just weird to put right at the top of the page like that. The "woman" page has naked artwork, which isn't as dumb but still pointless. ("Boy" and "Man" pages don't have nudity)
The internet has always been dominated by men, men want to see naked women.Men do not want to see naked men
Use x264 or something. Prime95 is just too brutal for extended testing. No point since you'll never see loads that high unless you regularly use AVX instructions. Use it for short periods (10-15 mins) to see what your max temps are and to expose any obvious instabilities. And leaving it for 24 hrs without monitoring it is dumb.
No you can't assume automatic settings are good. Make sure your vcore isnt stupidly high since auto settings often overvolt.
So /home partition is similar to Windows where they keep pictures/music/etc right?
Do I need to create a separate /home partition at all? Say I have another HDD too, can't I just put stuff there and it's fine?
Not sure if I understood this correctly. Trying to install linux first time.
That's correct. Except I don't think it's a partition by default. Unless you specifically want to separate it, all the directories should be on one partition IIRC.
How hard is it to do PCI passthrough with just one graphics card?
This is somewhat technology related, or at least I don't know a better board for this. Why the fuck are prescription glasses so expensive? I'm at about -5.0 with a -0.5 cylinder on each eye, and I'm struggling to find a place near me (belgium) where I can get a decent pair for cheapish. I'd like to get two or three pairs, maybe some sunglasses, just so I can switch it up once in a while and not be stuck with the kind of boring black frames I've been wearing for the last decade and a half. But at around 300-400 euro a pair I'm pretty much shoehorned into getting some boring and basic but that goes with everything.
What's a good vcore? OpenHardwareMonitor says 0.68V, CPU-Z says 1.36V, CoreTemp says 1.475V. I'm currently at 4.4GHz, on an i5-6600k
Oh and checking the BIOS it's set to "Auto" with no indication of the actual level.
Use hwinfo for the most accurate readings.
Also, do you have speedstep on? If so, your vcore will fluctuate, so you want to measure it under load.
Max vcore according to intel datasheets is 1.52V. Obviously you don't wanna go anywhere near there since that's absolute max and your temps will be too high anyways. 1.35 - 1.4 V is okay for longevity. 1.475 is definitely way too high if that reading is accurate.
I tried Custom Resolution Utility to make a custom refresh rate but it didn't work, didn't see the prerequisite that it only works with AMD/Nvidia gpus and a select few intel igpus. I have a laptop with a 3210M w/ hd 4000 graphics, is it at all possible to make a custom resolution or am I shit out of luck?
I just want to stop dropping frames in mpv
Auto means it overclocks via the VID. That's a number the processor requests by determining is the voltage it needs at any given moment. This can often result in overvolting, especially if you're using high LLC settings. Most people, if overclocking that way, will use a lower LLC setting and then use a voltage offset to get their vcore where they need it. This is better than manual vcore because you can use speedstep and C states to downlock your CPU under load. It's a bit more finicky to tune correctly, though, since VID changes based on clock speed.
Suggestions please? Already helped a few of you fuckers out in this thread. Surely Sup Forums is interesting in showing an itoddler the way?
You can't see it, but in the "replace with" box I have a single space.
You could try
Oops, didn't see it. Thanks.
How often do new processors come out, and how much different is the new iteration? Same question for graphics cards.
Intel innovates every 6 months to a year. Difference is massive increases in performance and the privilege of buying the latest mobo chipset.
By LLC I assume you mean load-line calibration? Sorry, like I said I am a total noob and that's the setting that best matches the acronym. If so, it was auto-set to Level 5, which according to the diagram in the half-engrish bios tooltip is the lowest.
How would I go about tuning an offset?
I do have speedstep on, and all those values were under full load (p95). I'm gonna try hwinfo now
Yeah that's what LLC is.
Usually higher levels mean more LLC. In case you're not aware, under load your vcore will normally go down a bit. This is called vdroop, and it can result in instability when OCing. LLC compensates for this by boosting voltage at load a bit. You can see how when combined with auto voltage that already tends to overvolt, it makes the problem worse.
Check your manual, typically higher LLC levels mean more LLC. You can also just test it yourself by checking what your vcore is under load with LLC at level 5 and 0.
As for offsets it should be called adaptive or dynamic voltage depending on your mobo. Again, check your manual. Most likely you can change vcore from auto to dynamic and it'll have a box where you can enter an offset.
In another 70 years people will understand why kids have no brain function left and a new form of autism weed is dangerous if you actually care about intelligence not just thinking or pretending you are
Yeah there's "offset mode", but I'm not very clear what I'm offsetting against or how I can know when it's well-tuned.
Yeah hwinfo is reporting 1.475V, fug.
Is Gentoo a meme or should I actually install it?
Alright so I switched LLC from level 5 all the way to level 1 (it goes only from 1 to 5), re-started prime95 and hwinfo, and got a radically different 1.470V.
Pic related seems to confirm that 5 is the correct level then.
Anyway, can you recommend me a good guide to OCing? It's clear that the automatic setting won't cut it. So since I have no idea what I'm doing, instead of floundering around trying to patch up the voltage by leeching off /sqt/, I might as well get to understand what the fuck this all actually means and do it properly.
kek, yeah dude, turn off that shit immediately. That's so close to the danger zone.
Like I said, your processor generates a number called a VID which is how much voltage it thinks it needs to maintain stable. This is done dynamically according to load and clock frequency, and some other magical factors. When you set your vcore to auto, this is the number used as a basis for what voltage the mobo will send to your CPU.
An offset allows you to add/subtract voltage from this number.
Best way to do this in my experience:
Set LLC to low (pretty sure it's high rn based on that ridiculous vcore).
Boot and check your vcore under load. If it's good, check stability. Not stable? Add a positive offset to increase vcore a bit. Rinse, repeat.
It's also possible to use negative offsets but I would advise against those since in my experience it drops idle voltages too low and you'll get instability when the CPU is downclocked.
Oh, btw, update your BIOS. A lot of Skylake boards overvolted out of the box. Mine did for example, and it limited my max OC until they fixed it.
One more thing, did you check your vcore reading in BIOS? Just to rule out issues with your monitoring software.
Ah, thanks for the offset explanation, that helps a lot.
Since LLC did jack shit, what do now? Although first I'll try updating the bios like you said.
I know nothing about JavaScript, just trying to modify a foobar theme, and failing at guessing how to make "by" and "from" use "Helvetica" instead of "Helvetica Bold".
I didn't, but it wouldn't be under load anyway, so it doesn't sound like it would be useful
How much money do you think guv'ment makes from alcohol? Answer your question?
True, although you could just turn off speedstep/c states temporarily. If your vcore is still too high under load after the BIOS update, play with negative offsets. Just be sure to check idle stability (basically just leave your computer sitting and see if it crashes).
Oh, also, you can see VID in hwinfo under the processor section, so I'd be curious to know what that is under load compared to actual vcore.
I'm having hardware issues with my main computer which is running windows. I also have a laptop which is running linux. I'm wondering if it's possible to yank out the SSD that has windows and the programs I need and plug it on my laptop and boot up to windows from there?
Thank you very much for the help.
No, windows will deactivate due to all the new hardware, plus you wont have the drivers needed to run it on the laptop.
I'M A FUCKING MONGOLOID NIGGER
I was looking at VID this whole time
Alright time to do some more tests to get the actual vcore
Fuck.
kek, when I typed that I was thinking you might be doing that. Very common mistake.
In hwinfo, vcore will be in the mobo section.
I am running into this
It is because I am using the bind adress that the pastebin from the tutorial fave me. How do I find my own socket adress
Your problems are literally being told to you.
Is it possible to learn techniques to fall from any height without getting hurt?
no
>DDR4 ram at 2667mhz and 1.45v won't POST with or without XMP enabled
Should I give up?
My recently installed OS on my new hard drive keeps restarting suddently for every 20 minutes or so.
I'm able to track down the source of the problem, and this is what leads me. This warning comes up at the same time my hard drive decides to restart on his own.
I tried going through Services (Windows 7) to disable or keep in manual the WLAN thing, and it didn't solve the reboot's problem still. I also tried too going to Device Manager and change some options on Power Management tab, but neither did that work too. I don't know what to do anymore.
May I get some help?
I know what the problem are, but i am having problems investigating about how to solve them. Is it as simple as swapping my ID Adress or is the socket something completely different?
Please don't kill me, I am a stupid person making a question in the stupid questions thread
How can I import my bookmarks from IceCat to FF Nightly on Android?
I don't think that's the issue user, I think it's just another symptom
