for the last several versions, qbittorrent would still download unwanted files regardless of the setting. it pre-allocated the storage required for all files and downloaded both incomplete and complete versions of the unwanted files.
they fixed that in this version

It's because that's how torrent's work. It's actually more inefficient now because it needs to download shared pieces twice if a user selects more files.
Nothing was fixed, qbittorrent now just hides what is really going on like other clients.

I'm not too concerned about efficiency on my bittorrent client. On the surface I don't see how I would benefit from how it worked before.
