nvidia doesn't care about linux

nouveau is open source and nvidia is proprietary

open source > proprietary

Anyone use Nvidia drivers with KDE?

How does it run?

I tried it, runs like shit, like KDE always does.

Why is Nouveau so smooth?

works great with kde 3.5

NVidia drivers make GNOME run like shit too though, it really pisses me off. I have use NV drivers and get good power saving, adaptive power and have slow laggy desktop or use nouveau and have a great smooth desktop but the card is completely fucking crippled.

Like shit
Open source drivers run much more smoothly

lol kde 3.5? who the fuck uses that? we're on kde 5.10.5

Interesting. Thanks for confirming my setup isn't just gimped & that Nvidia drivers just suck ass for desktop acceleration

(Theyre obviously much better than Nouveau for gaming or 3d programs though)

Seems like you have to make a compromise...

It's still being maintained, now called trinity

comfier than any newer DE if you ask me, not to mention lighter.

I've had this problem on Cinnamon. It is DEFINITELY a nVidia problem. Poke around google a bit, I don't know the fix for KDE.

The fix for Cinnamon? Removing the fucking sound applet lmao

novideo fucks everything up desu
if I have any opengl window open or a youtube video playing suddenly dragging windows becomes lag city
Seems like it does something fucky to maximize any hardware accelerated stuff and throttles anything else

>Nvidia
You fell for the meme

Lads, how am I supposed to program for cuda if windows is shit for programming and linux has shit nvidia drivers?

A bit offtopic but
>tfw you have RX480 and nonfree Debian works perfectly with it
No Nvidia for this guy anymore.

>novideo
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH look at him and laugh

>tfw you were the butt of jokes for having to use fglrx on linux for years but now the tables have turned

pls no bully, but how are games performing for you on linux? Source games/other shooters in particular.

Actually I just installed it a few days ago and haven't really played anything yet. I installed Steam and Shadow of Mordor from there because it was listed as working in Linux. I only tested that game for a few minutes but it worked perfectly. Blizzard games have been too tricky for me yet, I'm still researching it from Youtube and so on. I don't have any more convincing data to give you as I haven't tried gaming yet.

Because Linux is not a real operating system.

op here;
its tragic that putting in my old 6950 1gb would work better on desktop performance vs Nvidia on KDE

whats up with that shit?

Fair enough. I keep hearing that ayymd doesn't work with a lot of games. But I also can't stand nvidia.

>novidea
Found your problem

I can play all of the valve games on my ancient HD5670 witht he open-source drivers. I am having some troubles with newer stuff though, because the card is so old and some shaders won't compile correctly.

Another KDE3 masterrace report in!

>open source > proprietary
For ayymd. Team green have better proprietary driver but kernel updates can screw up the whole system.

Nearly every game works perfectly with mesa 17.2.
Only games that I haven't been able to run so far were Divinity: Original Sin and Dying Light.

>Only games that I haven't been able to run so far were Divinity: Original Sin and Dying Light.
Are they working to fix this? Or does this depend on the devs of those games, in which case I wouldn't hold my breath.

>Why are my XYZ drivers on linux so fucking..
>Laggy
>Not updated
>Chrashes the machine
>Conspicuously missing altogether

You got the lesser of all linux-support evils. Why complain?
