Why do people install a third party anti virus...

Why do people install a third party anti virus, when letting defender run in the background and using your brain is enough to never get fucked by a virus? Just don't use "that sort" of sites you fucking niggas.

>Implying this site isn't "that sort" of site

>letting defender run in the background
Is also not needed when you own a brain that you know how to use.

It's a very good placebo that makes the system think that you have a av running while not wasting a GB on avira or some shit.

Doesn't stop zero day exploits.
Doesn't stop malware that spreads via network shares(SMB)(not that a home user needs to worry about this)

>Just don't use "that sort" of sites
Even more dumb. All the malware author has to do is target the ads on that site, so even though the site may be legit, it could be compromised due to bad ads.

Newegg had this problem in the past where one of their ads distributed ransomware.

For the most part though, home owners shouldn't need AV. AV is mostly for corporations that have hundreds of thousands of users using their networks and dont want to risk having their computers infected by said illiterate/uncaring users. They need to prevent themselves against a bored employee going out of there way to infect said network

Why? There's no need for a AV. Placebo or not.
What sort of idiot are you that you can't disable the antivirus notification?

Normies need somebody to blame when they fucked the system up

>Doesn't stop zero day exploits.
It does, if you're not dumb enough to get them in the first place.

>Doesn't stop malware that spreads via network shares(SMB)(not that a home user needs to worry about this)
It does, unless you're too damn retarded to configure your network. Also if the whole network is yours, one of the machines would need to get something for it to spread, if you use your brains, that won't happen in the first place.

>Even more dumb. All the malware author has to do is target the ads on that site, so even though the site may be legit, it could be compromised due to bad ads.
Unless you use really outdated browser and literary let scripts run or accept them, even "those sites" won't do shit to you.

>AV is mostly for corporations that have hundreds of thousands of users using their networks and dont want to risk having their computers infected by said illiterate/uncaring users. They need to prevent themselves against a bored employee going out of there way to infect said network
LOL just LOL if you don't cuck everyone so hard they can only run whitelisted exectuables on their limited user accounts and then need to hit up the almighty network administrator for even the most trivial tasks and then be told it's complex and will take until tomorrow while you return to your office and fap to 2d

>It does
no it doest, thats why its called a zero day. you have to wait until your OS patches and fixes it, which by then could be too late.

There's no point to this topic or discussing anything if your logic is just 'if u know wat ur doin then you'll b perfect forever'. May as well argue with a brick wall.

>no it doest, thats why its called a zero day. you have to wait until your OS patches and fixes it, which by then could be too late.
The way you catch a zero day is no different to many other types, it's your own stupidity in the first place to fall for it.

Rather safe than sorry

>Just don't use "that sort" of sites
B-but I want to use "that sort" of sites!

Or just not use a botnet os like wangblows

Adblocks like "uBlock Origin" would stop 60% of all the threats.

defender is a huge performance sink, slows down file access immensely. 3rd party av does not have this issue

>defender is a huge performance sink, slows down file access immensely.
Not on windows 10.

>62425204
There is no benefit in disabling defender on Windows 8/10. You are already running full botnet OS that sends everything you do to microsoft, you may as well use this additional layer of security. It's well integrated into system and doesn't impact performance too much anyway.
Defender + firewall (software and hardware) + common sense 2017 + ublock + umatrix is the best security combo for Windows 8/10.

I agree 100%
Haven't used AV or software firewall in a decade or so. Luckily I've been spared. Do note that you can never be perfectly safe though. Legit sites can be breached and infeted, and you're browser IS vulnerable to the latest exploits.

Last time I got screwed was when Curse Client downloaded malicious files in an update as the author had his credentials leaked somehow.

Just keep sensitive and/or valuable data on backup (preferably physical media) and be ready and willing to just nuke your System if shit goes south.

I fucked up quoting somehow, here is your (You)

You don't seem to understand what an exploit is. You don't need to "do anything" to "get it". If you're connected to the internet, you are vulnerable. There's nothing you can do to completely remove risk, it's not about how smart or dumb you are.
