...

Im in it for the GPUs though, quad Crossfire here I come.
I need a new rendering rig.

based chinks making gpus affordable again.

buying stuff is finance-related. it's not technology unless you want to discuss electronic payment methods

lel dude suc my dick I will post whatever I want

>mining craze stops
>retail gpu prices drop like a rock
OH YEAH BABY

price has already recovered nocoiner cuck.

Old news. It's already bouncing back.

I know you will my underage newfriend

>largest suppler of coin stops supplying
>somehow this is corrected in a half a day
hahahahhahahah

Im 25
Eat a dick

This, I'm literally crying now. Thank you chinks.

Not surprising. It's just the tech bubble 2.0

based chinkus
fuck get rich fags

No, this is the tech bubble 2.0.

Wtf I love china now

What model of gpu do miners use? I need a new one I still have an hd 4890 I cant even play gta v

Then how do you explain chink shit general or build threads, they all talk about buying shit.

>2012
with NSA you lose

Lol this "plummit" is what happens every month or so, and then it rises again.

>a company with verifiable assets is a tech bubble
>not the "currency" backed by nothing but the power of imagination

This. It's actually good for Bitcoin.

>a currency back by millions of people and corporations around the world is a tech bubble
>not the company whose brand is backed by nothing but power of imagination

The currency will survive. It's value will not. And that's OK. Bitcoin needs a massive crash in order to actually work. Deflation ruins everything.

looks like btc and altcoins like eth and xmr are allready recovering.

I don't think the mining craze will end anytime soon.

Good. I could use some GPUs for 3D rendering.

Why are you using Blender with a noise filter?

>there are people ITT that think that GPU prices will drop any time soon
LOL

get ready for a flood of used GPU's that have been running at 100% for months on end and could blow up at any second.

>op believes people mine btc with consumer gpus
>2017
ishygddt

Ohh nooooo it dipped

God bless China.

I thought they were mining etherium?

this. fucking dumbasses don't realize that Russia pulled the same shit and it shot right back up after. it's a dip, no JPMorgan fag is gonna dictate the value either.

bitcoin price effect all crypto price

Its a /biz/ sham and they made a killing on it because they ere spamming it everywhere.

Only a retard would buy used GPUs that were used for mining. You're better off getting a brand new one.

>gpu prices to plumet/return to sanity
>nintendo announces they'll produce more nes classics next causing hoarders to dump their investments

this year is ending breddy gud

>bitcoin
>gpu
What's this, 2008?

the retailers are also cashing in on the mining hootnanny and gauging prices. 580 will be to their 220ish price. miners will have to take a huge hit on their cards if they want to off load them. They'll probably be better off riding the low rather than jumping ship

good fuck miners

This, top kek

vega
polaris
1070
1060s

bitcoin miners haven't use gpu for a while because of the level difficulty

But don't they produce GPUs? Wouldn't this hurt them if they don't need to make any more when the market is flooded.

They really do know how to make things cheaper

So the crash is still going? Looks like it hit $2,800 yesterday but back to $3,800 today.

No different than buying from a basement-dwelling neckbeard gamer

THANK YOU BASED MINERS. MAKE GAYMERS TO LEAVE Sup Forums

This is why, despite having a Fury X, I didn't bother to mine Etherium. I knew that some time sooner or later something would cause it to crash.

*$3,000
*$3,700

Altcoins are mined with GPUs, and their value is usually tied to Bitcoin.

What....? I thought they did this years ago, couple months after bitcoin shot up.

But all currencies are like that, not just Bitcoin.

Bull trap

I've been wondering what component would fail in a card that has been running nonstop for a year, and it has to be the capacitors. The silicon die can potentially run forever, and the shoddy BGA manufacturing process of 2009-ish that caused the "baking your card/laptop motherboard in the oven" trend has already been fixed.

Maybe "RX480 100% RECAPPED L@@K" will be a common sight on eBay.

I recently bought a 1080 Ti used on eBay, how high are the chances that it was a miner card?

Price was OK but I gambled with the possibility that the card was not that good for mining.

If it dies without warning after a month of mediocre usage it was baked miner card.

t.I got burned with a 480GTX

Hopefully it doesn't come to that, I'm betting on a longshot that if anything bad happens eVGA warranty covers it but I doubt that.

Mine was also EVGA.
They somehow lost the serial number of the card and it wasn't in their DB.
Very strange huh.

lol were you even around the first time bitcoin became a meme?
it rose from $5 to $1000 in a few months, and sunk to sub $500 when the bubble burst.

>>not the "currency" backed by nothing but the power of imagination

The US dollar is backed by the US military

anyone properly mining is undervolting the card and running it cooler than normal and at a steady temperature. Your average gamer puts more stress on a GPU than a miner does.

The only actual problem to worry about are the fans failing. It's the only mechanical part subject to wear and tear. The rest of it is solid state it doesn't get fucked by being turned on all the time.

Is mining on a 280x still profitable?

For real cheap might be good if your GPU dies and meanwhile get some economies for a GTX 1080ti water-cooled.

Condensers, easy to replace, fans (fuse) check also the main points where welds might be problematic. I used the oven 5 times for the 8800 GTX problem. died in 2015. Also, apply new thermal paste Ang get a water-cooled block

Replacement fans/blocks are under 30$, same for water-cooled blocks

And the only reason it rose to 1000$ in the first place was becauce China entered the market lol

>Condensers

...spot the non-british european

I doubt you may even need to check the main ports, anyone who used the card for mining would've left them empty. Depending on how cheap they are it might be a bargain

>thinking Bitcoin is mined with GPUs
kek

ha

what is this, 2012?

7970s available again?

I had a guy come into my computer shop the other day, he planned to buy a thread ripper setup to start a mining rig. In six months. To mine bitcoin.

the are GCN 1,useless for rendering.

>china bans bitcoin
>china adopts bitcoin
>china bans bitcoin
>china adopts bitcoin
>china bans bitcoin
>china adopts bitcoin
>but in 2017 instead of 2012
does it take 5 years for people to fall for manipulation like this again?
i better get ready to buy 4 years from now

I wanna xfire my current 7970. I had the chance to a few months ago and I regret not doing it, but I didn't have a job at the time.

Well they night get cheap so keep an eye out.

might*

even if everyone dumps, SHA256 will still be used as proof of work, and ASICs are still a shitton times faster and efficient at calculating that particular algorithm than any GPU ever will be

what's his logic?
might as well buy old Chinese ASICs

Dude was a little clueless but there's so many middle aged (40 - 55) people recently trying to get into mining. Also a fair few rich Chinese idiots buying dual 1080ti setups for mining. Some were asking me why there PC wouldn't turn on, they didn't realise you need to bridge the mobos power pins if you you don't have an io front panel connected. They also kept the mobo (with CPU and cooler) in the anti static bag...

I hope the shitty computer burns their house down

people educate themselves before doing shit you have no clue about

...

>I've JUST now bought a 1080ti for £700
On a scale of 1-10, how badly did I fuck up? Be honest.

He also wanted a 1tb ssd for the blockchain

Bitcoin needs a crash in order to actually work, I'm looking forward to one (won't lose money because I've bought in relatively early). I don't like the fact it's basically a toy for "investors" to play with now

The issue is its still being held to the dollar standard. It needs to find its worth

It doesn't HAVE any worth.

>It needs to find its worth
It's hard because it hasn't got any real worth

And the dollar is backed by thin air.
Thats right its not backed by gold just by believe in the green paper.

Objectively false

>And the dollar is backed by thin air.
Dollar is backed by the fact that it's the only currency you can pay US taxes with. Not the same as being backed by precious metals, but it does mean that it will always have SOME worth.

There is no material value behind it.
Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
What US is doing should be criminal they are lucky that they have so much military power they can get away with it.

The whole world uses the USD, though. No one is going to use a currency that fluctuates 50% in a day

>Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
None of the major currencies are backed by precious metals.

>Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
No, they have reserves but it's not linked to their fiat currencies in any way.

The value of gold is literally exactly as imaginary as the value of bitcoin.
>but it's shiny!
A lot of things are shiny, mirrors and chromed rocks aren't more valuable than gold are they?
The thing that gives both btc and gold their value is limited supply and ease of storage/transfer. Btc wins hands down in all these respects.

The difference is that gold actually has uses(and would have even more of them if it wasn't so overvalued). Shit, pretty much anything you can use lead for, gold would be even better. And that's not even taking into account everything else about it, such as resistance to corrosion, electrical conductivity, etc.

You can't make a dildo out of bitcoin

Bitcoin showed that is vulnerable to all exploits like regular currency even in early infancy.
Speculation,storage problems,creating artificial shortages,manipulation of value ect.
The thing is digital and thats about the only advantage of it.

>The difference is that gold actually has uses
No, this is 100% a bullshit argument. If gold were valued solely by the uses it has it would be just 0.001% of its current price.
Scarce good is subject to market dynamics, more at eleven.

>Scarce good is subject to market dynamics, more at eleven.
Oh look another currency this time virtual.
Oh wait I already have a plastic card and not physical money on me.
whoopty doo
