How can I boost the audio on my refurbished x220? I know it's a laptop and shouldn't expect much, but the sound is abysmal. Easily the worst of any laptop I've owned in recent years.
Carson Garcia
A DAC and some nice headphones.
As far as internal mods go, I don't think there's anything you can do. Anyone ever tried swapping the speakers on theirs for a newer set?

Can I game on a 5th gen Carbon or should i just get an XPS?
Robert Ward
I only use my Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro 80ohm Limited Editions TM.
They sound pretty good on my T440P, it doesn't have any issues driving them. There's a 32ohm and 250ohm version as well.
Easton Howard
Have an X230 but the screen got fucked. I was considering just buying another one but I would like a better screen resolution. Should I get an x240 or possibly consider a t430? Any other suggestions. This is a secondary device I use for school.
where is the driver for the x220 mic mute button, which one specifically installs it. the hotkeys one doesnt make it work.

My daughters want a computer, should I get them both a T420? Is it good enough as a Youtube/Minecraft machine?
Angel Collins

this is what I am doing
top fucking comfy
Christopher Ward
It's a lot better than that. Source: Currently shitposting on one.

Intel HD runs Minecraft like ass, that game is optimized like shit so you might want to get something beefier.
Alexander Ramirez
get them x220 for qt smol laptop or x220t for the tablet novelty meme
Adrian Rogers
Definitely, I would even suggest you should even go the x220 route for the better screen and lighter frame.
I have a t420, I wish you could find better screens for this thing, they really aren't that good.

shopped

Those are my actual screenfetch screenshots, though.
Aside from a few keys not working properly (which can just be remapped), I don't regret it. Typing feels like a breeze.
Ryan Gray
the worst part if those fucking tabs being too high. I was lazy and used some pliers because my file was jacked. It doesnt look nice when dissembled but I cant see it normally.
Also where are the lain bios splashed?
Angel Russell
how hot do your thinkpads get on full load?
Carson Carter
I just replaced the fan in my t61 and am getting a "fan error" on boot around 20% of the time.
The fan is working fine. What do Sup Forums? I have been trying to fix this for 3 hours

Around 65c max and idling around 25c but it's a mere i5 4300M. I still want to get a 4800QM or something.
John Allen
is upgrading from an i5 2520m to an i7 2720qm actually worth it?
Liam Bailey
>i5 2520m >50 degree idle >85 degree load Am I killing it?

am also interested. how much was the upgrade (willing to spend $50 max) and how are the thermals like user?

if it's a shitposting machine not really, if you mess around with VMs, encrypt/decrypt regularly (veracrypt containers for example) or do shit that requires multicore performance then it's a massive improvement
Oliver Cooper
how are the temps and battery life user? ive heard the t420 has problems with a quad core cpu
Jaxson Bell
I don't have the laptop anymore but this was idle and this is gaming with an eGPU

My dad brought home his old work laptop, an HP Elitebook 8460p, and after I inquired what he was planning to do with it, he offered it to me. The only problem it is still configured on his work network. I would like to use this media streaming PC but would need to restore it.
I need some guidance restoring it please. So he gave me his login credentials, and I can see that "System Restore Settings" are locked to the company IT admin.
What are my options? Is there any way I can restore this using all of the same hardware/software (Windows 7 Pro)? Or would I need to purchase another hard drive and configure that separately?
Apologies if these are stupid/basic questions, but after doing some research I see that a lot of people are trying to do a "Factory Restore" and end up having to buy new Windows Installation disks. I would ideally like to not put any money into this machine as I do not need it, but would like to get it working for media streaming etc. Any help/guidance/resources/guides are greatly appreciated.
Jordan Carter
wipe the drive and install a copy of win7
dont have one? take it
Alexander Jackson
is it a loose connection? only thing that makes sense to me
Xavier Lopez
No I don't have a copy of W7. I have never had to install an OS before, so I not quite sure where to start. >download one >Buy one >Re-use the same W7 key that is on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop?
So there is no way for me to use the W7 key that came w/ the laptop? If not, then what would you say is the next best way to get a copy of W7 to install on the wiped drive?
Jaxson Rogers
Just install the OS you'd like to use. I wouldn't waste time on restoring a cluttered old installation of Windows. It would take more time and probably run slower than a fresh install.
Lucas Walker
Okay that's good to know.
I would like to install W7, but where should I get a copy of W7 to install?
Kevin Ross
1. Download ISO from Microsoft 2. Use Rufus to make bootable USB 3. Install Windows 4. Try to use the license key from the sticker 5. If it doesn't work, use Windows Loader by Daz to activate
Jaxon Morales
>So there is no way for me to use the W7 key that came w/ the laptop? why not? as long as you install the correct version of Windows, be it home/pro, whatever
then you need a 4gb flash drive and use "windows usb/dvd download tool to put the iso onto the flash drive, now it's bootable and you can install Windows with it
Colton Cruz
One more thing: Don't use the USB 3 ports to install. The Windows 7 installer only supports USB 2
Dylan Collins
you mod the heatsink or nah?
Adam Gomez
holy shit man get lernt
mirror.corenoc.de/digitalrivercontent.net/ Download the one of these you need (probably Win7 Pro X64), then use Rufus (rufus.akeo.ie) to stick the iso on a flash drive, boot the computer with the flash drive, install the OS, and use the key on the bottom of the computer to activate it. It almost does everything for you.
William James
Okay, awesome! Now I can get busy. Thanks for the Sup Forumsuidance.
Is there any way his System Admin at work can see that this Windows license was restored/reactivated?
Blake Ortiz
>retard sticker sniffer sent me the off-center cuts along with the regulars as extras >my dumbass didn't notice this since I just flipped through the stickers and said it's a-okay If any of the anons who got a off-center want to have it fixed, email me. I'll most likely offer you to refund like 50 cents per blem and offer you 50 cents off the next batch so you can get a hold of a properly cut Sup Forums sticker in place of the blems. Email is [email protected], include your order number and a picture of your stickers with a timestamp.
Sorry for the mess up anons
Christopher Nelson
>Don't use the USB 3 ports to install. The Windows 7 installer only supports USB 2
That weird, do you know why this is?
Jack Sanchez
Thanks folks. I will report progress later.
Michael Price
do a second run with lower case g
Jose Hughes
No. If they give away the laptop with the license key they don't own the key anymore. Even if they could see that it's been activated again, they couldn't do anything about it. It's now yours. Assuming that it's a genuine, legal key of course. Companies usually don't pirate stuff.
James Baker
Nah, only the stock single pipe heatsink + Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.
w7 isos have no default generic usb 3.0 drivers
Colton Bennett
I guess it's because installing from USB wasn't raelly a thing for Windows when W7 was released. It came on DVD
Cooper Jenkins
Its a big corporation, +8000 employees, so I presume it's genuine.
Mason Nelson
If the key doesn't initially work and it asks you to call MS' automated system, don't be afraid to do it. As long as you have a valid license key it will spit back a number string that will let you activate it with the OEM supplied key. Don't use KMS deactivators unless you have no valid keys.
Benjamin Ward
when i tried it it bitched about not finding device drivers
Mason Wright
Because Win7 doesn't know what the fuck USB 3.0 is and doesn't come with drivers for any USB 3.0 devices out of the box.
Hunter White
I went so far as to push down the connector with a flat screwdriver.
>inb4 you crushed the wire I didn't wait 2 weeks for the fan to ship just to break it
Christopher Rodriguez
patchdynamics when will you get more in stock?
Mason Brooks
What type of RAM does the T61/T60 use? I have both and want to get past 2 Giggy bigs
Jackson Russell
No problem. Just carefully read the install dialogs, they will explain what is happening (mostly). The tricky bit might be repartitioning the hard drive, which you should do if it still has the old OS on it. Just select all of the partitions and hit the red X, then, when you only have one entry that says "unallocated space" click on it and then click the new partition button, then click create when it asks you what size to make it. The installer will create all the necessary partitions for you and use the maximum drive space.
Luke Stewart
I ordered the restock and told them off for this off-center cut tism they have. I'm hoping before the end of this month to have them.
I'll keep ya'll posted.
Hudson Adams
where can i find the mic mute driver for the x220, the button does not do it even after i got the hotkey drivers.
Hudson Collins
Are IBM Winbooks allowed ITT?
Robert Cooper
What was the BIOS image file size limit? was it 30kb or 50kb?
Hudson Jackson
Why doesn't Windows activate with key only? Do I really need to use the phone? I just reinstalled Windows...
Owen Mitchell
do you have the hotkey software too? it usually will unless you charged around a lot of the software, or went from in windows > reinstalled in a really short amount of time
