>old T420 still going in the 80s after applying new thermal paste what do?
Austin Morales
screw you :^)
add more paste or if you're an idiot who overdid it remove the paste and try again adding less
80s on 100% load is pretty normal for a t420 though
Grayson Watson
What cpu & ram are you using?
Connor White
I've got a used but still good SSD that my friend gave me (Samsung 840 pro 256gb) but they said they didn't format it. If I install it in my x230 and install Windows 10 with a USB, will it automatically remove their files?
Chase Williams
soon tm
Caleb Martinez
I just want to put in my ssd
Bentley Mitchell
should've used an msata ssd goy
Michael Moore
i5 2520m 8 gb
Josiah Stewart
>80s on 100% load is pretty normal for a t420 though I thought the point of getting a business laptop was getting low temps
Nathan Miller
cutest thinkpad reporting
Mason Hughes
...
Hunter Ortiz
wtf retard
Alexander Rodriguez
I mean in comparison with the more poorly built consumer laptops
Zachary Edwards
80s under 100% load is low temps for a laptop but thats probably a cpu only test, because these thinkpads usually throttle pretty badly.
Mason Peterson
80 is still better than 90% of opposing laptops
William Bailey
Bumpi
Jordan Brooks
yes it'll ask if you want to format the drive
Adam Edwards
At least it still has the touchpad buttons
Noah Williams
I've heard that is overheats like crap because of the underpowered cooling
John Cruz
Do I have this right? >X230 >Power off >Remove battery >Remove slow HDD >Put in new SSD >Put battery back >Plug in Win10 USB installation media >Boot up That's right, right? Or do I boot then plug in the USB? Sorry if this is a noob question but this is my first thinkpad, the first time I'm replacing the hardware, and the first time I'm installing the is.
Michael Reed
Thinkers of Sup Forums, please help me.
I recently purchased an X220, and I wish to flash a new BIOS.
How would I go about doing it?
Blake Barnes
>T440p - 14", last ThinkPad to have replacable CPUs doesn't it come with a soldered 4th gen Intel Core?
Henry Carter
PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCH
PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCH
PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCH
I WANT ONE NOW
Julian Gomez
Well that's not good.
Gavin Evans
WHy are you on a tech board son' >usb then boot then you might have to bios and select boot from usb
Isaac Martin
Disregard that I suck cocks, I just learned some 4th gen CPUs are still PGA
Hunter Watson
Just a normal BIOS? Use the lenovo package Want to install mac OS/a better wifi card? Then this:x220.mcdonnelltech.com/
Justin Harris
>what is google
Jason Robinson
Does installing Ubuntu on the T420 require any special considerations? I switched to Ubuntu at work a couple weeks ago and really enjoy it.
Kayden Kelly
No
Robert Collins
for me its the x201
Andrew Lewis
Bumping question from previous thread
Justin Lee
You are a godsend, user.
The 'Unauthorised WiFi card' crap was really pissing me off.
Just replace the palmrest, the trackpad is hilarious at that size.
Aiden Morris
just replace the palmrest
Daniel Ross
i wish my x201 looked that clean

Ian Roberts
Brand new Chinese knockoff plastics.
Jonathan Morris
I bought my X230 refurbished at $400, local currency, earlier this year, and I want to sell it now. I've upgraded from 4 to 8GB RAM but am I expecting too much if I put the buy now price at $300 or should I put it at like $250? It's the i5 3320M and 320GB HDD, someone on my local auctioning site is putting them up with a i5 3380 and 180GB SSD at $250 starting price but that seems pretty low to me for such a low amount of storage, even with an SSD.
Connor Cooper
If you plan to play emulators and old games then is ok
Matthew Campbell
Inteligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor
Daniel Anderson
I meant that it seems pretty high but I don't really know what price they usually go for
Chase Morris
Can BIOS update fuck up hardware whitelisting on ThinkPads?
Colton Bennett
440/440S used soldered U series chips, 440P used socketed M series chips.
Aaron Smith
Yeah, I just learned that lol I thought every mobile processor from gen 4 on was soldered. Also just learned that U implies not just "low voltage" but also "soldered"
Matthew Williams
By old, how about stuff that was released roughly at the same time as the thinkpad itself?
I don't really play anything released that recently anyway (other than Stellaris, but I doubt that'd work).
Behold the dumbest CPU you can put in a T440P, and the most powerful socketed mobile CPU ever produced.
Tyler Wood
T440p graphics options?
Easton Morgan
What do you guys think about the thinkpad t540p? I can buy one for 250 but I don't know if I should
David Gray
>dumbest CPU you can put in a T440P what did he meme by this?
Ian Davis
>16:9 >Lenovo
These are chinkpads, you degenerates.
Luke Nguyen
HD4600 clocked at 1.15/1.3ghz, optional GT730M.
It's 57W, 10w above the quad cores the T440P can barely cool with the bigger heatsink and no dGPU.
Kayden Cruz
what do you mean? the hardware is already whitelisted from the first BIOS revision
Jose Ward
For example, do newer BIOS have better lockdown on whitelisting so you can't use modded BIOS to install wifi cards that didn't come from Lenovo?
James Turner
what is this site?
Charles Miller
Not my image. It's a site for benchmarking mobile/netbook/notebook etc GPUs, can't remember the name.
Angel Lee
Nah its me, just user posting elsewhere and forgot my trip
Jason Bailey
no the newer BIOS versions don't prevent you from updating the BIOS again
Christian Hernandez
Some never BIOS versions deliberately block you from downgrading to an older one
Juan Price
For me anything
Colton Young
Okay, so my laptop just BSOD'ed for the fifth time today. What should I get if I want a future proof laptop that can handle a 4k monitor and some light gaming a la eu4. Looking at an x1 carbon or the latest xps15
David Nelson
>Okay, so my laptop just BSOD'ed for the fifth time today It's simple, just uninstall Winshit.
Matthew Phillips
>laptop that can handle a 4k monitor
XPS 15 or equivalent
Chase Gutierrez
so i have a budget of up to $300 or so.
i'm building a studio and want a thinkpad for use in music production. any recommendations?
Dylan Bailey
Sauce on the palmrest? Might upgrade the palmrest on my x201

wow I'm black and I won't buy your patvhes anymore
#BoycottPatch
Alexander Davis
Is the x1 considered an equivalent? Just want to hook it up to my TV for comfyposting. Looking to see if there are better options or if the xps is the top of the pack
Adam Gomez
Memory matters more than CPU for DAW use.
Pretty much any ThinkPad T series and even some X series w/ Sandy Bridge or more recent processor will do.
Isaiah Gonzalez
STOP! Post what you're doing right now with your thinkpad.
Owen Taylor
All x1s have integrated graphics. XPS is king.
Mason Murphy
Sticker restock when?
Will they have lowercase Sup Forums?
Juan Parker
X1 doesn't have dedicated GPU.
Also, designed to be ultra-mobile (weight and thinness over better thermals, basically throttles at relatively low CPU load).
Parker Bennett
lol >black >posting on oceanic anti negro webforum
Dominic Scott
Ahh, good to know I'm don't have noodle arms, so I don't need a macbook wannabe in terms of thinness
Aren't MBAs for "urban youths" who can't afford MBP?
Jace Williams
I wish there was an aftermarket lid for recent ThinkPads that had the IBM tricolor logo on it.
Aaron James
I had the same problem. I think it was a crap ethernet driver from lenovo. I switched to linux and that fixed the problem.
Jace Cox
my $150 acer chromebook looks better than that thing
Grayson Sanchez
>not being the same color as your thinkpad
Sad!
Hunter Bennett
>The only laptop with a shittier TN panel than the T420
kek
Nolan Perez
nice faggy laptop, did a rainbow flag come with it as a gift?
Alexander Torres
Fake, blacks can't read
Soon, hopefully before the end of the month.
Jordan Martin
Don't put your thinkpad in direct sunlight. That heats up the laptop and in turn heats up the battery is is harmful for it. Not to mention thinkpads are black which is the most heat absorbing color.
Michael Kelly
Don't worry, it was in the shade. But I was never considered that, will be more conscious about that next time.
Aiden Roberts
Tfw you find Patch Dicknamics' supplier.
Jordan Ramirez
worst thinkpad runs hot and has worse battery than the x200 Theres no reason to buy one when the x200 and x220/230 exist
Carson Clark
Guys, my T420 idles at about 40 Celsius, runs at about 45 when on Sup Forums, but shoots up to 80 when on YouTube.
On 100% load while using Blender, it got as high as 96. dmesg shows warnings of it getting too hot and throttling.
Even at the hottest temps, the air being blown out is only mildly warm and the chassis never feels hot to touch. Is this normal for an i5-2520M?
