PiratebayJavaBitcoinmining

i wanted to see how badly it affected my machine, but when i went to pirateproxy dot cc, it timed out, possibly because a lot of other people want to try it too, or possibly because they've been slashdotted. is that the right address?

Other urls found in this thread:

i tried: thepiratebay.org/
but alas, no cpu usage spike like i was expecting

that one timed out for me as well. it's possible the local government censors are interfering.

it's weird, because you'd expect most people to be horrified at the idea of a site stealing their cpu cycles to make money, but a lot of the posters on slashdot seemed okay with it in principle, as long as it was stated up front. pretty much everyone said "it's better than ads".

it's on /browse/ I believe

>thepiratebay.org/
although i just did some nslookup poking around and it's not obviously blocked here.

do you mean a thread on Sup Forums, or a forum called /browse/, or a forum on some other website, or what?

hwat

i think he means: thepiratebay.org/browse/
like maybe thepiratebay.org/browse/200

also i checked out the list of proxies on thepiratebay-proxylist, and most of them tried to fuck with my browser, open popups and brought up horrible warning banners via avast. still not convinced they're legit.

oh, right.

... that times out, too.

go to thepiratebay dot se

okay, that one IS blocked. this is helpful, because it tells me that while .se is blocked, the others are just timing out because of their shitty connections being overloaded.

Am i missing something? It all works fine for me.

Slashdot says tpb wants alternate funding source
yro.slashdot.org/story/17/09/16/1623255/can-the-pirate-bay-replace-ads-with-a-bitcoin-miner
but some find the said javascript no run for them

>Australian

Dude use a proxy and visit the same address.

ah ok yeah i use noscript. that shits blocked.
Idk what kinda cpu usage we are talking but idk i dont think i mind it. As long as it was public knowledge.

>le anime picture
useless thread

1/10 i replied

i was going to use a screenshot from the Pirates porn pic but i think Sup Forums is worksafe.

turns out that according to tpb blog
thepiratebay.org/blog
the CPU spike is not 100% but more like 20-30%

> uses proxy service

"The requested resource could not be loaded."

in that case, it works for me

Does tpb mine bitcoin using my pc when I visit the site..??

Nothing for me thanks to µmatrix

Not a lot
About 15%

yeah thats what i meant. sorry for explaining like a faggot.

fuck guys, Australian blocking is by DNS only. Don't use a proxy - just change your DNS to something not run by an Australian ISP (Googlebotnet 8.8.8.8)

i wouldn't mind if it did. seriously, if i can let them rape my cpu for the five minutes i spend searching for shit on their site, then i'm okay with that. as the assholes on slashdot said, it's better than pop-up ads.

thanks for this. i counted myself pretty competent in IT matters.. back in 1983. shit's changed just a little since then.

If this becomes a trend with companies (and why wouldn't it) could this be the beginning of users turning off javascript? Could this truly be the end of javascript??

Companies won't start doing this. I ran the math. It's not profitable by any stretch of the imagination. I bet thepiratebay will take off their coin-hive miner within the week.
