Why was /prog/ removed?

Seemed like a place for smart people to go to act brain dead. Why was it removed?

Other urls found in this thread:

blog.Sup
twitter.com/NSFWRedditImage

because it was a place for smart people, which was off brand for Sup Forums

>code monkeys
>smart
not necessarily

code monkeys stuck around on Sup Forums

/prog/ wasn't all code monkeys though. I'd say Sup Forums is code monkeys (e.g., "what frameworks r u using to code up in python this weekend xd!").

/prog/ on the other hand did "smart stupid" things, like writing a Haskell to Brainfuck compiler

because text boards were very cpu-intensive for the servers and gpu-intensive for browsers

>not using Lynx
enjoy your botnet

who could forget sleepsort

I sure can't.

(What's sleepsort?)

There's no need for /prog/ when you have /tech/

>Why was /prog/ removed?
Terry posted about God's divine intellect on /prog/. CIA had to shut it down.

Wait, which /tech/? You aren't talking about the one on underagechan, are you?

Sorting algorithm /prog/ came up with whose runtime doesn't depend on the size of the list:
>for each element in a list of integers, spawn a new thread/process
>each thread sleeps for x seconds, where x is equal to the value of the element associated with that thread
>after sleeping, each thread reports back its value and then dies
>main program listens and appends each reported value to a new list
you can normalize the list if there are negatives or if the minimum is far from zero. exact amount of time to sleep can be adjusted to balance speed and accuracy.
it is sub O(n log(n)) since its runtime is something like O(n max(L)) (n is length of list L)

Because Reddit existed at the time.

So what's the difference between Sup Forums and /prog/?

>So what's the difference between Sup Forums and /prog/?
Sup Forums is where braindead people come to pretend being smart.
They might look alike, but one had actual smart people on it.

Because it's not about technology anymore, it's about videogames, traps, muh rigz, browsers, and the /fa/ leakage that talk about gaudy watches.

The people that actually cared about tech left a while ago to lain- or 0chan, so moot got rid of the deadweight.

how fast is it compared to... bubble?

Pretty pictures to sate the ADHD kiddies

>technology board
>let's talk about watches, which last major innovation happened 3 centuries ago
Let's make a wheel thread general, to talk about the miracle of engineering, the wheel

Don't forget the /t/ leakage, the Sup Forums-leddit leakage, the Sup Forums leakage, the /lgbt/ leakage, etc.

>lain

Real niggas now hang out at arisu, pleb.

Can't you just stop shilling this overdramatic shithole now?

Moot said he removed the text boards because they were broken for a few days and nobody emailed him or complained that he noticed.
He assumed nobody cared.

Ah, you mean autismchan?

Is that so? I guess it was our fault /prog/ died ...

Applechan please go.

dis.Sup Forums was readonly long before it died

what
How is displaying text fucking hard?

Wanna fight?

...

Yeah, that's true. blog.Sup Forums.org/post/81998248943/goodbye-to-some-old-friends
I can't find where he says why he actually deleted everything, It was in a Q&A or something. Hardly any of those are transcribed.
