What is the best DE?

What proof do you want faggot? Xfce has everything you'll need while being pretty fast. No unneeded bullshit included.

ofc emacs and not only that emacs is the best platform to play tetris on.
Did I just say "platform" sorry I meant a fully capable work environment.

Budgie 11

Xfce and cinnamon

i failed my programming exam becaus ei was playing tetris
fuk u (((stallman)))

go back to your contamination board

How the fuck do you find tetris more interesting than a programming lecture?

Mac OS> KDE > XFCE > Windows 10 Explorer > Shit.

>falling for low quality bait and getting this triggered out of nowhere
>not even bait, just a silly post
>inb4 not mad
>inb4 pretending to be stupid

Listen here, kiddo. Drop all this chink rubbish and install proper gnome. Get a theme that you like, I would personally recommend Adapta Eta, it will help you to get rid of these fucking huge titlebars. Then, don't forget to install an extension that a real man use, I'm talking about Dash to Panel.
All these will make your desktop look better than w10.

are you gay?

So yes?

Gentoo.

Does it matter?

XFCE for a lighter setup, KDE for a more powerful machine.

I haven't tried deepin. I find the frosted glass and flat icons to be unappealing and hard on the eyes. There is no objectively best DE since it's just a matter of opinion. I personally hate Gnome with its comically thick window borders, garbage apps, and laggy interface. I also dislike KDE because the apps are trash and it just has too many useless features. I use MaXX Interactive which is great because of how light on resources it is and how comfy the interface is. It's simple but you can still get a lot done with it.

Here's my desktop from earlier today.

Budgie is the only acceptable version of Gnome.

Cinnamon is good.

>Not using a original sgi machine running irix
What are you some kind of a poorfag?

I have an Indy and an Indigo 2 Impact that are running IRIX. I just don't use them often because there's basically no software support for them and web browsing is painfully slow on that old of hardware. I only use them when I want to use IRIX specific programs.

i3

unironically this desu

>i3

that's a windows manager not a desktop environment

XFCE in a landslide
XFCE + i3 for me

This. Best for battery life, stability, customizability and ease of use.

Second best imho. They definitely have the best default software and KDE connect is comfy. If only their crash reporter worked so I could be a proper beta tester on KDE Neon.

Anything based on GNOME is garbage.

unity and deepin. kde is acceptable. Evrything else is trash

This is not a bumb.

>ctrl + f Mate

Stunning how easily you all forgot Gnome 2

Pantheon

No money required to have this beauty.

Been somewhat involved in packaging Deepin for Fedora, it's a pain in the ass because they've decided to fork mutter for no good reason

This desu senpai

Budgie

GNOME

Printscreen? Nope.
Window grouping? Nope.
Tasklist overflows the panel if too many windows. No quarter tiling. Can't move or create panels on screens other than the primary. Time & date applet won't show a calendar. Can't set the wallpaper of the login screen/desktop manager. This thing lacks features or is just broken in areas. I could go on. If you really wanna use Solus, stick to either Gnome or Mate...

KDE Plasma

There is your proof. it can't get much more comfier than that IMO.

Sure, you could do something similar on XFCE but mine works out of the box with few alignments instead of spending few hours ricing it.

Also, it just struct me - we have a thumbnail viewer in file picker unlike gnomecucks or whoever has this gtk2 bug.

How do I get icons like that on gnome? They look so sharp and clean.

I am unironically comfy af in gnome

Cinnamon
Its perfect, looks good in default and is comfortable as hell

Confirming deepin. That stuff looks so nice. But when it comes to performance I'd prefer Budgie.

Kek all that to imitate a look that Deepin provides natively and then taxes a lot of the system's resources.

I like the cut of your jib

It's fine as long as you don't use mint.

>he uses a DE

I'm excited about budgie 11

Holy christ is that ugly.

You should unironically only use a DE if you dont care about configuring your computer and just want something that werkz out of the box. In this case you should go with cinnamon, as its the default for linux mint, which is the most used distro out there.

IF you care about configuring your system to your own needs there is not one fucking reason to install a bloated DE. Just use something like i3 on small screens/notebooks and openbox if you have plenty of screen estate without a DM and all the DE bloat.

If you don't agree you, obviously, are and idiot.

Needs more packages

And that's because GNOME is so bloated.

Quick Sup Forums xfce or mate?

Is there any way to fix the ridiculously thick scrollbars on Plasma? That's literally my only complaint. It looks great otherwise but those scrollbars stand out and look ugly to me. I actually really like the overlay scrollbars that Gnome has. :(

Look at the amount of shit installed with the gnome meta package

GNOME
Menu shell in the titlebar is so comfy.

Literally the only thing i miss in xfce. Though i can just middle click in the task to close the window.

You can do this with Plasma and Unity too. Maybe MATE as well? Not sure.

Unity.

Daily reminder that to this day, Unity is still the only desktop environment that has both of these killer features.

Plasma finally has the integrated application menu (although it's not done as well as Unity), but no HUD. MATE finally has the HUD, but no integrated menus. Gnome has neither of them.

both KDE and GNOME can be tweaked to have the left feature. Unity was a more bloated version of GNOME, and both are shit DEs.

Unity is shit. The gimmick with titlebar is it's only redeeming feature

Download Irix icon theme

Xfce for maximum comfyness

jesus, do you realize that just 1/3 of the window is actually content view? KDE has serious UI design problems, look at all that empty wasted space.

this desu

HUD was an amazing idea. Wonder why other DE/OSes didn't adopted it.

you can turn off the useless preview on the right side

Windows Avalon

what's wrong with GNOME 3?

someone post slick deepin webems pls

this.
They literally cannot. Educate yourself, nigger.

Just no

Ha........ha

....is it good compared to....?

I personally prefer hotkeys and the way kde does applications, you basically go the "configure shortcuts", search for the thing and if there is no easy way to do it, I add it.
It is obviously slower, but I only use it for things I don't know how to do.

Wew lad. I was just about to install it with Mint on my wife's computer because she cares nothing for tech and I'm trying to out of proprietary shit and keeping it to VM or dual boots while making it easy for her at the same time. That being said.....

BEST MINT DE??????????

In comparison to.....?

Do you have shit hardware or something up in the couple of thousands?

>It's fine as long as you don't use mint.
truth. which is strange considering it started as a mint exclusive DE. even the debian cinnamon default looks nicer than mint's

So botnets?

>Baloo

KYS

I want this so bad. It's the one thing I love about unity. Why does no-one ever talk about it?

Also when I was using ubuntu I was kind of dissapointed with its features. Was expecting do be able to do everything with it, also outside the current application. Like volume up/down etc.

go for an easy one to learn like cinnamon

Mate's the only other DE with it as far as I know. It's in the latest beta. It only has the HUD though, no integrated menus, so you still have to have those ugly menus taking up space.

I think most people just don't know about it. Literally 99% of the time these features are brought up, people don't even understand them. They think the integrated menu is just a global menu, and they think the HUD is just a general file/program search thing.

i love this.
the only other one i can think of is plotinus

That's nice, but only for GTK applications unfortunately.

Is this the new DE thread?

Still gnome but I like budgie
