You legitimately are more retarded then my little brother who is actually retarded
Isaac Davis
1) I can barely understand your formatting 2) I'm legitimately autistic and I have had no problems with Ubuntu.
Robert Gonzalez
lol. first google result from 2017 for "ubuntu install proprietary driver":
"To install proprietary drivers in Ubuntu, open the menu, type “drivers,” and select Additional Drivers. Keep the default selections. Hit 'apply'."
I could see how you might be so intellectually stunted if you only ever used Windows in the past though.
Luis Hill
Don't download from Nvidia. Use the packaged driver in the official Ubuntu repository, retard.
Justin Robinson
And when you tell the truth all you get is "REEEE NORMIE GO"
Linux cult members believe that one should spend their time compiling binaries and modifying config files in vi, rather than ACTUALLY USING THE COMPUTER FOR SOMETHING
I'm sorry they lied to you OP, but there is no hope in reaching them
Lucas Hernandez
linux is fucking garbage
Oliver Gray
This shit is the best, get your life
Main machine has a 1050ti and had no problem installing from Ubuntu repo
enable it and select the driver you want, there shall be 4 of them there.
Unfortunately nvidia is not very good at making drivers for nix, it has been a problem from day one. This ppa makes life easier for you as it lets you just pick from one of those 4 drivers without you having to compile and install it by hand. I agree that this should have been a lot smoother, the latest driver in the ppa is the 384 one, I use it on my mint box too.
But please go check what driver is supported by your screencard first, google helps you out. Yeah this too, it's like another holocaust, they don't fucking support all models with all drivers.
I got a 860M card and that is not fully supported on the 384, but I live with it, I need cus muh Vulkan and muh cuda, so I can't run the 340 one which is the oldest in the set and only one that fully (alledgedly it fucks up) my card

I wish he ran gento or arch on that box, this is too easy
Christian Sanchez
It's not that it's an easy fix, it's that he's shitposting or refuses to accept that new tools of any type require learning. So he goes into Linux thinking "lol it'll be exactly like the Windows OS I've used for 8+ years!" And then he gets upset when it's not exactly like his existing OS. I think he's just shitposting though
Adam Sullivan
This is why you'll never get consumer level adoption. This mindset right here. If installing your OS requires command line input, you are not ready to ship.
People have lives. They don't have time to learn what grep and fdisk does when installing windows is 10x easier.
Now it's true it's more difficult to set up a TWM or some obscure shit, but no one really cares except Sup Forums nerds.
Brayden Green
>This is why you'll never get consumer level adoption. This mindset right here. If installing your OS requires command line input, you are not ready to ship. Except most people don't install the operating system on anything they buy
Owen Long
Or drivers, for that matter
Carter James
I never once said Ubuntu needed command line input for installing or basic maintenance. in fact the solution to your "issue" is done through GUI only. But you're so fucking stupid that you can't even bother to admit that you didn't even try >average user >fdisk, grep look, I know my way around Linux pretty well and I only use fdisk to install my system (which is optional and even unnecessary for Ubuntu) and I only use grep occasionally. Your arguments and reasons why you don't like Linux are from the 90s or early 2000s at best. Get some new material.
Ayden White
Please kill yourself and stop posting this pasta

>Harder to set up a TWM >sudo apt-get install i3 >Log out, switch to i3 in whatever little desktop/window manager control your OS has by default >Log back in Wow so hard!!!! Kill yourself you braindead child
Oliver Bennett
>Except most people don't install the operating system on anything they buy That's because Windows Just Works(TM). *cough*
But how many moderately smart people hearing the propaganda about Linux have tried to install Ubuntu or Mint, run into some setup or driver issues and after wasting an afternoon say "Fuck it. This is just too much hassle. I give up." And they go back to their corporate botnet.
Luke Diaz
I don't know user, do you know how many moderately smart people failed at installing something that installs basically just like Windows, only to give up and go back to Windows? Sometimes people need an OS that does more than just works™. But even for just works systems, after the initial setup Linux runs fine. I installed mint for my grandma and my mother and neither of them have called me for help any more frequently than they did when they had Windows on their machines.
Nathan Sanchez
same I installed ubuntu for my mother her old shit laptop runs faster and she doesnt call me on the phone every 10 minutes asking my why her computer is slow and the program wont open
Jonathan Hernandez
this saved me fuck much of problems too, they still call and go >I can't print user! something is wrong with the computer, you have to come turn on the power on the printer there >oh rite, okay then user. when are you going to come over for dinner then
Eli Wilson
>user how do I scan something click the button in the top left corner and click simple scan and then click scan >thanks user boom done
Ian Perry
>command line Ubuntu hasn't required command line input for installation since 2008. 99.9% of hardware drivers are built into the OS with no additional installs required. The only thing commonly missing is a proprietary video driver, though mainstream users (Intel onboard graphics users) don't even need that.
Ryder Gonzalez
I have yet to have a Linux install just work without command line input. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but there's always some reason I have to open a terminal and/or search online for some work around or customization.
I'm saying that you can't have total control over your windows box like you can on linux. You don't get to have i3 on windows, but only Sup Forumstards care about that stuff.
I did it years ago when I first made the switch to Mint. I would try to install, fail, retreat back to windows.
I have a standard dell laptop. Ubuntu required me to input a command to get the wireless card to work.
Justin Cooper
You've been extremely unlucky with your installs then. And your anecdotal evidence of "moderately smart people trying and failing to install Linux" doesn't really hold up when it's just you that you're speaking for. Next time just say "I tried, failed, and went back to Windows" without making it seem like you're speaking for more than just yourself Also, >Input one command >being a big deal at all more people would use the Windows cli if it wasn't absolutely garbage
Jaxon Ward
>standard >laptop Most laptops have proprietary BIOS extensions and non standards-compliant hardware. It's a constant 'whack-a-mole' situation for kernel developers. I'm talking about Linux on the DESKTOP. I could give a shit about laptops. They're consumer toys with terrible ergonomics and overpriced crap hardware.
Angel Lee
But I am talking about more than myself. If it happened to me, it must have happened to others statistically speaking. I'm not special or unique for having bought a dell laptop. That's a pretty fucking popular product.
I guess that explains it, but it's just an excuse. All it took to fix was a few commands. I don't get why it couldn't run those itself instead of requiring a new user to know to type lspci and then to install a driver to match it.
But yeah. You guys are worthless to talk to as always. Full of dodges because to you these problems are trivial. That's why Linux is only 2% market share despite being a free product with better security and no spyware. But hey guys, keep it up and in a few years you may reach 3%.
Jeremiah Reed
Don't ever fucking talk about Ubuntu in this manner again. It's the best operating system in existence. It's also the most popular in terms of use around the world.
Adrian Wilson
Windoze users prefer plug and play.
Having to google or refer to a manual for every basic thing comes off as needlessly complicated.
Jacob Mitchell
Which laptop did you buy?
Tyler Cooper
>No wonder people don't use linux
But I'm using it right now.
Joshua Richardson
Are you this fucktard from yesterday?
Sup Forums is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site.
Jaxon Barnes
>that's why I'm sure the fact that Microsoft is a $536 Billion dollar company with 20,000 sales people has nothing to do with it. lol. GTFO retard.
"3,000-4,000 people [...] represent less than 10% of Microsoft's sales staff"
Julian Richardson
maybe you should not have bought a wincucked piece of hardware that can't into linux drivers
Luke James
you must be thinking of AMD cards. not only does nvidia have excellent 3D support for linux (equivalent to windows driver performance) it even has them for freebsd.
Cameron Turner
Excellent bait.
Reminder for those who aren't in the know:
It's funny to feign retardation by doing things like running executable driver installers for Windows when the package manager would easily update drivers with a single command.
All you guys getting buttmad are being manipulated by the OP who has a firm understanding of your developing male psychology and need to correct the world.

1. Search additional drivers in the dash 2. Choose the driver you want 3. Press Install You do not even need to open the browser. You do know most people look at at least one basic guide for noobs before changing important like their OS my negro?
Cooper Wilson
OP is shitposting

listen Sup Forums, i like linux and would never switch back at this point but it's alright to admit it has its faults for instance, hardware support is a fucking shitshow and we all know it
Samuel Butler
You fail to understand that it's not the operating system that makes itself compatible with software, its the job of the software to maintain its compatibility with the OS.
Nvidia knows that Linux is not a source of money for it, so it got lazy and never fixed their drivers.
And yet you act as though hardware support being shit is a Linux thing. Next time don't use a kike GPU.
Christian Gonzalez
do you know that nvidia pours more resources in its linux drivers than its windows ones? hence why linux performance is better than windows in 3D programs. the same can't be said of AMD cards. Not even remotely.
Lincoln Hall
Literally one (1) klick.
Just don't use a distro for non-idiots.
Ryan Nelson
You're a fucking shitshow. If you can't handle driver installation, stick with Ubuntu and its pre-packaged drivers with a GUI.
Eli Thompson
I am using ubuntu. None of the 50 different ways to install the drivers and 200 configuration tweaks I've tried have fixed my problem.
You people are really defensive about this, aren't you? Is linux related to your sense of worth or something? It's alright to admit some things you like have issues. There's absolutely no denying that graphics drivers are majorly fucked on linux and admitting it isn't gonna kill you.
Julian Cruz
>novideo instead of AMD Is that a sarcasm?
Lincoln Foster
What's with this board attracting actual mentally impaired people?
Hudson Peterson
Graphics Driver on Windows >Google for Driver >Find Driver after 5 Minutes of Searching >Install Driver (beware of adware)
On Ubuntu >Go to the Driver Menu >Pick Driver >Click Apply
Leo Murphy
>graphics drivers are majorly fucked on linux Citation please
>50 different ways Sounds like you tried about 48 random things that have nothing to do with a correct NVIDIA driver installation.
>configuration tweaks How much is Microsoft paying you to shill here?
Sebastian Wilson
nah. it's just that you aren't in the know and are probably basing all your knowledge off the image of linus torvalds saying fuck nvidia.
Maybe read about how you are supposed to install them.
Spoiler: You don't download them manually. And it is by far easier then on Windows.
Connor Turner
Are you retarded? You can't even build the driver binaries yourself and installing the drivers the way you are supposed to is significantly easier then on Windows.
Angel Kelly
But these drivers aren't plug and play. Even on Windows.
Justin Gonzalez
That's not an add for Ubuntu tho
Carson Foster
Should have installed Gentoo, OP.
Matthew Phillips
Linux is unusable without Google allowing you to look everything up.
Joseph Ortiz
>I'm trying to install the nvidia drivers, and it won't fucking do it. Why? What's wrong with open source drivers?
