why does gnome look like utter shit? is it because CEO is woman? or am I just sexist?

Because I use i3wm.

that shit is raw
needs time to mature
hit alt + f2 and type "feh cat.jpg", it should open ~/cat.jpg in feh
as of right now it ignores everything after the space.

Will it let me see thumbnails when selecting files to upload?

But annon i am

because budgie 11 is not out

I've been using Solus (and Budgie) for about a month now, and other than the lack of packages, I see it as a really slick distro with a lot of potential. I installed it on my normie roommate's laptop and he found it easier to use than Ubuntu.

relevant to the thread
i want to get my feet wet a little with a distro but am unsure which one
Budgie seems nice but almost a little too easy, i want one that I will learn from
>inb4 install gentoo

Why aren't you using snap and flatpak packages?

Budgie is a desktop environment. Solus is the distro.

I only use WM's I dropped desktops.

For Xorg/Xwindows OpenBox/I3wm are good enough for me.

Sway on Wayland is very promising though and It's getting KDE features soon.
(i3 .config compatible)

But I am

>firefox
Install a better browser.
Why do people use such shit defaults?

>Those trips
Because I like it?

looks like a gnome 3 theme desu

>tfw Kevin uses OSX now

pantsu mieta

>CEO is woman
>gnome
>ceo
It's just some autistic neckbeard who loves osx and do hackathon every day.

Vala is ded and budgie is looks like a gnome fork. Even the gtk ide for gnome is an abandonware.

There isn't a better browser. Unless you want Nightly for muh new features or IceCat for muh privacy.

I used it for abou month. Thete were some bugs/missed features, which made me switch
1. Separate layout for each winrow simply doesn't work
2. No quarter tiling
3. No keybindings for moving windows
4. Can't set alt-shift as layout switching keybind
So, i switched to kde.

I am, senpai

What's the point of Solus if I can install Budgie on Ubuntu and get the best of both worlds (more packages and Budgie)?

hello here is my budgie DE

Too buggy
Gnome based

because it hasn't improved anything. it's yet another DE with some random distribution which will sooner or later be irrelevant.

lack of customization (application launchers on task list can not be modified, etc), redundant features (task list and an already opened application are shown twice in the task bar, etc).
its overall not a thought through project, same as cinnamon.

doa

I am.

Solus is basically Gnome with Dash to Panel.

>some random distribution which will sooner or later be irrelevant

Meanwhile, Solus is continuously rising on Distrowatch and the community is evergrowing and welcoming.

Budgie is great, though. It's a work in progress, yes, but so far it's working pretty well, all while using less resources than Gnome, the DE it is based on.

i installed it and i find it has no improvement to anything.

>Meanwhile, Solus is continuously rising on Distrowatch and the community is evergrowing and welcoming.
and that has no relevance to the real world where most distros are rpm and deb based. knowledge acquired on the distribution is barely relevant, specially if you want to work in the field.

slackware and gentoo has a purpose for testing, compiling, etc
debian, ubuntu, fedora, suse and rhel/centos has a purpose for stability and usability.

what does solus offer? nothing that none of the distributions would not. it's will serve the same purpose as mint, it is and will be hyped, until the project dies because they lose focus due to community pressure and inconsistency on goals

kek

never fucking reply to me again unless you're contributing to the thread

Solus / Budgie is just inoffensive imo.

I think GNOME is hideous and runs poorly. If Solus and Budgie were more popular / older and thus had more documentation online to help people, I'd say it is a way better recommendation for people new to linux or those looking to switch from windows. Even now it's probably a better option than ubuntu if someone just wants a web browsing distro.

die!

Waterfox, for those who have had and loved their install and don't feel like fighting for the next few months to maintain some approximation of it.

>using a browser because of a different logo
kek

>using noobuntu

looks pretty much like my Gnome rice which is what Bungie truly is - an amateurish Gnome rice.

>The only difference is the logo
Fucktard detected.

idk, go pay for an actual focus group

I'm waiting for the Qt version.

Maybe next year. Maybe...

waterfox is crap compared to ff 57

>poor man's gnome
No thanks.
