With the price disparity between the 8GB and 4GB RX 580, does the extra 4GB really matter all that much? Is the extra 60 dollars actually worth it?

Hoping to render 3D porn sometime in the future, will the extra 4GB come in handy?

Hey i got an AMD FX-4100 with a ga-78lmt-s2p motherboard can i upgrade to an i3 540? or should i even upgrade to that

bump for interest. Wondering about this myself.

>wanting to upgrade trash to other trash
Save up for a Ryzen upgrade.
new B350 motherboard.
New DDR4 ram (3000 or 3200 mhz recommended. 8GB minimum)
and a Ryzen CPU. cheapest is the Ryzen 3 1200 which is a decent CPU. overclock it to 4.0 Ghz and it performs the same as an Intel i5 7500.

but muh fx-4100 can't do 64 bit windows and the i3 can and is similar in performance soo???

The 4100 should be able to do 64 bit windows. The problem is likely the motherboard

just got an email update. Looks like Polaris cards are starting to go down boys. Newegg has a Sapphire RX 550 for ~$250, and a Gigabyte Aorus RX 570 for ~$280

Looking to build a workstation for programming, which specs matter in getting low compile times? So far I was thinking a 1700X, 32GB RAM @ 3000Mhz and some fast NVMe drive.

>RX 550 for ~$250
RX 570
fucking mistyping shit. a 550 for 250 would be a terrible deal.

Ryzen 1700, 32gb 3000 mhz ram, a fast nvme drive, and an X370 board.

can't do it doesn't have the right shit was the conclusion i came to last time i tried to fix it

Idk what to upgrade.
I have a 1080p 60hz monitor and I wanted a 1440p 144hz one
Gtx 960 which I want to upgrade also
Mid tier cpu and motherboard but I don't think upgrading them now would be a great idea
Do I get a new monitor or a new GPU? I thought a monitor now would be more sensible to get because im going to upgrade everything eventually, and buying a 1080 that doesn't handle 1440p 144hz would be a waste.
Should I get the monitor and wait for the new GPUs next year?

Right there under instructions: x86-64. That's a 64 bit processor. Change to a different motherboard.

What're you talking about. That cpu and any am3+ motherboard can do 64-bit operating systems. The fault is obviously in either the image you are trying to install off of, or you.
It's not rocket science...

aight fine walk me through it how do i unstall 64 bit windows

watch both of them. second one is a follow up to correct his mistakes.

I've got this arriving tomorrow. Did I make a mistake? (It's an LG 29um59a-p)

Is there a beige ATX case with decent thermals?

>ultrawide
Yes.

Looking for a new case. The Meshify C looks pretty much perfect, but the fact that there's no fan for the 3.5" hdd bay is kind of a dealbreaker to me. Those things can get hot af and if they do their lifespan decreases massively.

Is there anything like it, but with airflow around the HDDs?
>HDDs invisible
>no fucking 5,25" bays
>PSU invisible
>not too ricey design

I'd never go sub 1440p, but 21:9 is nice and comfy.

7700K came in. Not sure what to do with it now.

download the win 10 media creation tool and pop the usb in timmy

delid as it will climb to 100°C in literally a second if you prime it

Yes, that's why I'm not sure what to do with it. I don't like the idea of overclocking as overclockers I've encountered have come across as the chaddiest bastards ever. The "if it burns out you just buy another one using your trust fund, bro" sort.

I mean, the 7700K is the better processor than the Ryzen 7 line in terms of design. Intel just totally failed in the thermal area. And according to early reports on Gen 8, the same shit is afoot. And people are accepting it as being the HOT NEW THING FOR ELITE HACKER MODDERS LIKE MYSELF instead of a blatant defect.

Regarding what I said about Ryzen 7, reading beyond fanboy shit, it really reminds me of the Q6600 I used to own. Q6600 was a piece of shit. It in theory sounded really amazing, but practically it was a lemon. Because the multiple cores were never utilized. Never. And the way they were interconnected prevented anything from ever fully utilizing them.

I'm so confused. I'm tempted to just sell it for $325 and wait for companies to stop being retarded.

Why does my CPU sometimes spike for a second or two then go right back down? Like, it's stable around 47-48 then randomly jumps to 56 or 57 for a few seconds then goes back to 48

Ryzen 1600 with stock cooler btw

the R5? has loads of space and you can have a fan directly in front of the storage bay iirc

though the psu isn't covered.

Did you not do any research into the case you wanted? The Meshify C supports either 2x140mm or 3x120mm fans up front. The later option places the fan literally millimeters in front of the HDD bay.

budget $900 firm. already have a 75hz freesync ips. pcpartpicker.com/list/mGPMsJ

i have a 3 year old antec hcg 550 psu, should I just use that?

Ryzen really isn't that bad and personally I'd get one if my 3570k wasn't still more than enough for whatever I do. I might delid it soon though, if it fails I'll just really upgrade to a 1700 and AM4.
However if you already got the 7700k I'd really delid it, or even pay somebody to do it semi-professional. The throttle on the one I had at my job was insane, really. thicc cooler and as soon as you put it under load you get 800mhz from time to time, not even only in prime.

I should've added tempered glass to the list. I'm planning to move soon and I want to put my PC on my desk now for cable management and easier plug and play reasons. It's in a spot right now I can't reach very well. Anyway, tl;dr I want a little bit of rice but not too much, just something that isn't an eyesore

You're actually right, though the guy at hardwarekanakes said that you need to move the 3.5" cage and that you can't use long PSUs, my Dark power pro 11 is quite large though, fractal recommends a max of 175mm, the bq is 180.
Do you own the case? Are you able to tell me if that would fit?

yeah, just use the antec
I wouldn#t buy a toshiba hdd and I would buy a samsung SSD, but other people will say different stuff I guess

>However if you already got the 7700k I'd really delid it, or even pay somebody to do it semi-professional.
I won it in an online contest. Hence why I'm tempted to sell it. Because I was going after something else, and just won the CPU by happenstance. I really don't want to have to deal with the delidding nonsense.

Anyone? Is this normal?

do you have a fitting mainboard? If no I'd really go with ryzen, if yes you might as well give it a shot. If you fuck up you don't really lose anything as you didn't pay for it anyway :^)

Built a PC with SLI GTX 1080 and looking for a good 4k monitor. Current monitor is 1080p @ 60hz. Should I wait until 2018 for 4K 144hz monitors from Acer and Asus?

I have an old desktop I built in 2013 with an i5 3570k that I'm going to replace the GPU in and I also want to rebuild it in an mATX case since I'm moving it to a smaller place, but is it even worth bothering trying to track down a mATX LGA1155 motherboard? I'm looking at something like this but it costs 60 Britbongbucks as well as a new case, is it even worth bothering with?

ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-H61MA-E35-B3-LGA1155-USB-3-0-mATX-Motherboard-MS-7740-Ver-1-2-/362106744772

I'm just going to wait for i7 8700k to drop so I can build my new PC, I've had this old lady since 2012

Actually, scratch that, does anyone have any suggestions for a horizontal ATX case?

>do you have a fitting mainboard?
Nope. My current rig has a 4460 in a MiniITX board.

then sell it.

What's a good, compact ATX case that's only going to fit an SDD, a HDD or two, ATX mobo and ITX GPU that isn't outrageously expensive? Is the Fractal Design Define C any good or is there anything smaller available?

Why do so many ATX cases have so much wasted space anyways

About to do it boys. Hope it works

Is worth to buy a dual X58 motherboard this days?

Breaking news for you: That's how sensor works.
Shit isn't viable, yeah

>tfw favorite hobby is building cheap PCs from Craigslist/eBay parts
>tfw no money

I have that too, pretty sure it's a windows process. Had to modify the fan curve to avoid annoying ramp up noises every time it happened.

My local store has a sale on the Define R4 which makes it cheaper than the Define C, is it worth getting the R4 even if it's bigger?

Good luck. I have the exact same setup. The stock 1600 cooler is a bitch to put on. I accidently scratched my ihs a bit taking the cooler off to apply new paste and try putting it on again. Watch out for that lol

Yeah I hear PGA sockets can be troublesome to remove coolers from. Hopefully I only have to set it once

The problem isn't the socket, it's the spring loaded screws in the cooler, you need to push them really hard. It's not that big of a deal if you install the cooler with the motherboard laying on an hard surface, but it's a bitch if the motherboard is already mounted in a case.

Is that even possible? I had to unscrew my mobo because of that fucking backplate.

I'll install it before putting it in the case but I'll keep that in mind too. I probably will have to take the whole thing out if I wanted to put an aftermarket cooler in at a later date.

>RX 580 4GB NITRO+ Video Card
$409.99
lol

I've done it before.
Nowhere near as hard as mounting an m.2 in case.
I bought my 1070 a few months ago for less than that lol

Nice

Who /buildgoodpcandloseinterestingames/ here? I dunno, maybe ffiv will keep me busy for a while

I thought I was, but I've been playing and enjoying my backlog of games I couldn't run before.

Will a 212 EVO fit in this piece of shit?
m.newegg.com/products/N82E16811353084

Hey mates, got a 144hrtz display, but ill be honest, im not really seeing the difference all the time. What can I do? I set the refresh rate in the display settings, have my games set to 1920-1080 (144), and have the frame limiter either off or at 300. If I turn V-sync on it goes to 120 or some shit. I dont understand. Help?

ask someone who just built with a Rosewill - FBM-01 anything

aka the cheapest case 99% of the time on pcpartpicker

Difference is not a thing that might dazzle you but sore like something that you don't want taken away. Play some fast paced games at 144hz and switch to 60 and you will come to know the diffetence.
A trained eye can even detect marginal differences like 60 vs 70 hz.

Technically, just barely. Clearance is 160mm and the 212 EVO is 159mm.
Would I chance it? Hell no.

I've already got all these parts used or on sale (PSU is an EVGA 450BV), now I need a case with good enough airflow for my shit motherboard that can fit the 212 Evo. Preferably 3 fans and under $40. 2 fans is also fine if there's space for a 140mm fan.

>tfw bought a new r7 360 for 40$

This post might be longer than I anticipate, but the answer will just be a simple yes or no

>Plan on building in my kitchen because it's the only place I have with a wooden floor and enough space
>Know I should put all components on mobo before I install in the case and power it up just to check they're all working
>Problem is I'm using a tv as a monitor (it shouldn't be too much of an issue because I'm not sitting right in front of it, but that's something I'll change as and when)
>Can't lug my tv downstairs for a 10 second test run because it's far too much hassle (also don't want to drag mobo etc upstairs for the same reason, have a smaller monitor, but I'm not sure where the power supply for it is
>Is it at all possible to instead connect the mobo to a laptop to act as the screen just for the test

If it isn't I'll have to hunt out the power supply for my old monitor, but using the laptop would be immensely more preferable. Please help friends!

The Challenger S is $45 and has 3 fans, as long as you don't mind LEDs or fuckhuge cases you should be golden.

monitor cords are cheep

also static electricity is like 95% a meme

No.

I'm 100%ing the dot hack IMOQ/GU games and it's entertaining, but still.

Did that, after a while the modding process became more fun than the game

Refresh rate doesn't mean shit.
85Hz ULMB is better than regular 144Hz, possibly better even than 240Hz depending on pulse width.

I remember being a young whippersnapper and every time I changed components I always did it on my bed or carpet and never had any issues, but I just know if I do that this time I'll blow something or myself up.

;_;

Monitor it is then.

Thank you friends!

>Change components on carpet in fuzzy socks in the middle of winter
you might say i like to live dangerously

How much clearance should I have for my cooler when picking a case? Is 11mm enough?

>on carpet in fuzzy socks in the middle of winter

Sounds more like you like to live comfy :3

just don't let it touch the fucking window user

So yes?

Any amount is enough so long as airflow is being directed to the sides. I would reccomend maybe 5mm in case of something happening in the future but 11mm is great
If it is a perpendicular airflow cooler like a stock you should try to have more clearance

>find a half stripped PC on the street
>took it for the case but the case was garbage
>decide to take everything else
>clean off what I thought was a P4
>mfw

That pic focus is garbage

You try getting the shiny text to show up. If you actually can't read it, it's a Q6600.

What kind of person has that but also throws it out in the current year

Q6600 was a piece of shit. I had one. Absolute garbage. Was basically like Intel trying to do what Ryzen is. It was 2 of the Core 2 Duo processors stapled together. Colossal piece of shit.

What do /pcbg/ do to their replaced old parts?

I know nothing about PC building. Would this be alright?
> BitFenix Nova Midi-Tower - Black
>Corsair CX550M, 550W PSU
> Intel Core i3-7100
>MSI LGA1151 B250M BAZOOKA
>Crucial DDR4 2400 8GB kit
>MSI GeForce GTX1050Ti 4GB AERO
>Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3,5 HDD

>wasting money on intel in 2017

What's ironic is intel's jab at current AMD for being "glued-together" when they have done less than that. What I mean is why does it take a decade to throw that garbage out?
I sell them, give them to friends, or put them in my storage room.

building your own?

I have my Q6600 along with the defective motherboard that bore it in a shoe box. It's a $300 lesson to not be fucking retarded.

I thought all C2Q were that way.

Honestly, it's also why I'm so hesitant about Ryzen.

What else should I get that fits that build then?
Yeah, low budget

Make a pcpartpicker of it.
Also why get an i3

what's the budget?

Pentium D part Deux

I keep hearing about the Q6600 being the savior of trashcan builds.

Read the fucking OP. Main problems:
>Corsair PSU
>Intel in 2017

it's cheap?

pcpartpicker.com/list/

what would you recommend?

First off I would recommend reading the fucking OP.

>$120
>cheap
