I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Linux hasn't had driver problems since, what, 2005? It's had better driver support than Windows for years.

The only real problem with *nix is GPU performance due to drivers being asscancer.

what's a linux alternative for outlook/skype for business? or how do you get those to work? wine hasn't worked for me.
Christopher Bailey
Dual OS, win10 for business/gaming and Void Linux for everyday use/shills
Michael Thomas
Well outlook works in a browser, and I'm pretty sure Skype does too. So you don't need an alternative
Oliver Hall
just use OpenBSD
Hudson Stewart
the web clients for each are shit, and very limited in capabilities.
Isaac Perez
I use Outlook through my browser daily for work, it's an email client with a calendar. What more does the desktop version have? Skype is shit regardless but for quick conversations with coworkers I'm sure the online version is fine and you're just nitpicking

More like running a shitty os inside a virtual machine in the os you actually want to use because you need to use some shitty software and dual booting requires rebooting to use said software

This OS is not for brainlets.
David Ramirez
Netflix also works as well. It does require (((Chrome))) though. But I neither recommend Netflix or (((Chrome))) but if someone has to have it then it will work out of the box.

I use Outlook, but it does what any other mail client does. Just pick the next alternativeto. Doesn't Skype have a Linux client?
Adrian Allen
The Linux client is pretty outdated, I believe. I'm not even sure it's being maintained anymore. But again, there's a web client if for some reason user needs the new features (hint: he probably doesn't)

If you have to use spreadsheets and a word processor all day, you should probably use Windows, drone.
James Turner
Office is online/in a browser. Or you can use Google docs. Skype also has a browser version, and the last user in this thread who said the same thing couldn't come up with a valid reason why Skype doesn't work in the browser. Honestly though, it's just a word processor, you don't need Microsoft products to process text like that.
Isaac Watson
I get the feeling neither of you are familiar with any of the Office365 products beside Word and Excel, or Skype for Business (Skype != SfB), and how well they integrate with Exchange.
Logan Lewis
i run xfinity, hbogo, and netflix on linux?

Kolab is your best bet. LO is fine if everyone uses it, but you can use msoffice if you want. A large company should have an IT department so it isn't a bunch of people installing random stuff.

What's a decent modern game? I wasn't aware they existed, unless they were indies (at which point, they are usually playable on Ubuntu and its forks, like Mint).
I can watch video stream services like HBO Go and Netflix. Can't comment on Xfinity specifically.
I can run Skype for Business, don't understand why you can't. That said, I prefer Wire (which also has business options), as it has more security and no ads. Outlook is fair, but I mitigate it by using Outlook on my iPhone. Tutanota is my personal service.
Why not? Because so far, it seems like you don't have any real complaints.

Well, I can understand them choosing to run W7 over W8/8.1/10. I work at a power plant, and we do the same. This is due to the fact that we can't afford to have our computer systems shutting down whenever it fucking pleases (ala W10). W8 and W8.1 are absolute garbage for productivity.
