Should I be maxing the volume out on my E17 and Magni2 instead of PC volume?

it doesn't matter

Let's see Paul Allen's... i mean, user's Waifu/Setup/Albums.

Different day, same idol trash...

...

No. Max out PC volume. esstech.com/files/3014/4095/4308/digital-vs-analog-volume-control.pdf

good post

is for

that matters for 16 bit dacs. if you are still running an archaic 16 bit dac then digital volume is the least of your issues that you will have

a u d i o p h o o l a l e r t

inb4 vidas gets mad at my headphones again

>please charging
>please charging
>please charging
>please charging
>please charging

you should upgrade that usb cable to something that looks nicer

i fell for memes and I regret it

I feel like I need a right angle braided cable but I think I'll just tape some pebbles on it and call it a day.

ideally PC volume is maxed out but in practice, that results in having channel imbalance with the amp (analog limitation with the volume pot at low volumes) at least with easy-to-drive headphones

what do you regret the most?

everything

Don't worry, you have a better knob than the magni3 cucks, assuming that's an uber. That's a $79 knob right there.

I'm REEEing so hard right now, you'd think it would be easy to find a right angle type b to mini or type a... there aren't really any braided type b so you'd want an adapter for style points

i know the hd600 are bad but what's wrong with schiit's shit?

You can always order a custom, but that's going to be upwards of $30 and take weeks to ship. Not nearly as crazy as the $100 or so I paid for my headphone cable though, eidolic must be making a fortune.

I've been meaning to make custom stuff for all my headphones but I just can never get around to it. I have all the parts in my cart and have a heatgun / soldering equipment already, just too lazy

will my mom be ok?

I've made some custom stuff but it's all come out really bad because I have awful hand eye coordination and don't plan very well. The biggest problem though is that you can't buy the real nice looking connectors without paying close to the cost of a custom cable anyways.

Pic related, abomination of a HD600 cable.

>Pic related, abomination of a HD600 cable.
that's pretty bad yeah
>The biggest problem though is that you can't buy the real nice looking connectors without paying close to the cost of a custom cable anyways.
I'll probably just end up giving into the cable jew and buying one of (((eidolic's))) cables

Which headphone is that?
Also, your engraved waifu makes me think of how much i wanted engraved shields for my M80, never got to ordering it though.

It's absolutely in no way a good deal for your money, but you don't have much choice in the matter unfortunately.
They're the Focal Elears. I toyed with the idea of buying V-modas just for the custom plates but I'm not sure I'd be willing to reveal the powerlevel so publicly.

>It's absolutely in no way a good deal for your money, but you don't have much choice in the matter unfortunately.
oh please, this is /hpg/ not /csg/, everything I buy is not good value for the money

do the Focal Elears count as endgame / summit-fi? I missed out on the sale when it was $700 but I'm not sure I can take the plunge on that blind, and I'd feel like an ass going to a store downtown and demo'ing without any intention of buying it at all at the inflated canuck prices (especially with the real estate cost at Toronto)

endgame is different for each person. some enjoy bliss ignorance like the hd600 folks while otherwise are only satisfied with utopias and nothing less. summitfi usually just means the territory between $500 and $1000

>while otherwise
while others*

That's definitely true as well.
I'd say so. They don't have any real sonic flaws that can't be corrected with EQ, and you won't get better build until you get to the Utopia.

>I'd feel like an ass going to a store downtown and demo'ing without any intention of buying it at all
nah definitely don't feel like an ass, they don't give a fuck and it's very common. if it still bothers you just say you're unsure about forking out for a kilobuck, hell see if they'll price match (they won't but you can try)

>$500-1000 is summitfi

We have very different definitions of summitfi, although I definitely agree that endgame is different for everyone, just as something mid-fi in the with the right signature might make someone happier than some summitfi stuff (good example would be a guy on headfi who bought a Campfire Vega while his Elemental Audio Be were in for repairs, and once he got them back to A-B, realized that he liked the Be more despite being ~1/4 of the price). That's why the circlejerk around here is so dumb: while you can make general recommendations, everyone's taste is different.

There's no shame in trying something out before buying it. If a store feels like too much pressure, either bring a friend or two with you or got a local meetup or tradeshow...then again, if you're a gambling man, you can just take the plunge.

>Utopia
my next headphone purchase will probably be in the $1000 but I still can't fathom why a headphone would cost $4000 other than an inflated price just to target rich audiophools or it's just such a limited run they can't keep costs down compared to the staple Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic ones.

I guess the R&D is just overkill for a headphone that'll only sell in the 3 or 4 digit range?

I think it's a bit of both honestly. If you look at Audeze's line, the LCD-2 and LCD-X (the cheaper ones) actually have less distortion than the LCD-3 and LCD-4.

I like the design of the Elears better than the Utopias, so I don't think I'll personally be getting those. Only foreseeable headphone purchases for me are STAX or maybe HE1000s if I can get over the Hifiman QC and customer support.

>We have very different definitions of summitfi
I'm aware that a lot of people have different definitions, but hifi, atleast for me, typically used to represent a house's best offering. for sennheiser this used to be hd600, audeze lcd-2, etc. the lcd-2 IMO became summitfi when it was pushed down by new flagships, and the hd600 got pushed down to midfi when the hd700 and hd800 got pushed down by the hd800s.

Fair enough.

>while you can make general recommendations, everyone's taste is different
Indeed, imho the problem is really that people test only a couple of good headphones and assume anything else is trash, add that mentality to making recommendation you get a rather toxic behavior in some cases.
lol, i always thought walking around with a headphone that looks like V-Modas do was already a small powerlevel indication of sorts.
Mine need new pads though and pads cost a lot where i live, so the poor thing has being in it's case for a over an year now. This should change soon i believe.
Anyway, loved both the looks and measurements of the Elear, how is the stage on it?

Soundstage is definitely wider than the 600s, but the separation is amazing. You can increase the soundstage by using HM5 angled pads, although that changes the FR substantially.

>imho the problem is really that people test only a couple of good headphones and assume anything else is trash
first love is always the strongest. people get attached

Idol trash here.
What's your setup like, user?

fix your god damn cable situation, user

Idol trash here. OP is a different idol.
We've got variety of idols!

It's just a few cables. it's not so bad.

literally just velcro that usb hub under your table and then buy a second one when you actually need to hotplug and it will be infinitely better

recommend me some anime music

I actually do need to hotplug already :X
I kinda like my arrangement.
>velcroing out of sight
But I like seeing them cables. Am I weird?
They also feel nice at touch...

>idol trash
>Am I weird?
ab-so-fucking-lutely
>the LCD-2 and LCD-X (the cheaper ones) actually have less distortion than the LCD-3 and LCD-4.
this sounds dubious to me, but I haven't looked at the measurements for the 3/4. I was planning on upgrading to the 3, but that doesn't make much sense to me. The 3 and 4 have thinner mylar than the LCD-2, which should make everything perform better much like it would on an electrostatic. Even bass response gets flatter / better with thinner mylar on an electrostat

youtube.com/watch?v=XLL68BLBLZk

my.mixtape.moe/xmprcg.flac
Dunno, it's probably an artifact of Audeze's product variance. The distortion is extremely low already on all models though.

>Dunno, it's probably an artifact of Audeze's product variance.
that's the issue when you work with 0.5 micron mylar

>ab-so-fucking-lutely
That much? :X
Whatever, idol trash gonna take a nap.

this general would be worse off without you idol trash faggots though

Aww.
Good night :^)

set it to 24 bit and don't worry about it unless you hear something wrong.

Stay mad poorfag.

So pic related is the only thing that counts for hifi?

I knew I would trigger someone

I've been told by someone that knew someone that owns it that it's the best headphone for anime

I got a free Beats Solo3 wireless from Apple Education which I have no need for and was planning to sell

My nigger of a.brother opened the box and used it.

It's worth 330 from the Apple store. Local markets are selling it for 260 brand new in box. Mine is gonna be less than 260, so around 220-250.

At this point I think I might just keep the damn pair because I really wanted at least 300 for it.

Fuck man. Are these even good? I really wanted to sell the but. I won't sell them for less than 300.

Sell them and get HE400i

Are Koss portapros any good? I'm in college and all the normies use some variety of beats so I just want something that gives me some good quality and bass for relatively cheap

Yes, they're good for dat vintage Beats look except they're not bad at aol for casual listening. It's like a inverse grado.

In there any actual difference between HD600 and K702?
I'm trying both with the same tracks and can't seem to find it.

What are your thoughts on the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Series 2?

It doesn't matter if the dac is 16 bit only. Ever since windows vista, windows upscales everything to 32 bit first

Are the Oppo PM 2s just the PM 3s with a wider soundstage?

Hi I'm Vidas and I'm the one who posts your nice amp in the OP. I don't think I have ever criticized your choice of the elear. I did however lose my shit when I first saw your element.

There is but I can see how they would sound virtually identical.

Any acceptable wireless headphones that don't sound like shit?

There are! I even own one just because I wanted to experience the appeal of wireless headphones for myself and while on the go I listen to way more music now that I have them.
Going to need more information though user. How much do you want to spend? Earphones or headphones?

Thinking of buying the meze 99. Mostly listen to anime music and jazz. Has anyone on Sup Forums tried them?

I prefer over-ear headphones. I'd prefer spending less than 2000 NOK (215 EUR). Though i can probably go a bit higher for a significant enough upgrade. Built quality is also quite important because of the cold weather during the winter (i.e no cheap Chinese plastics).

Haven't tried them but wanted to buy a pair until it dawned on me that they're really in a bit of a strange spot. They're closed back headphones which implies they can be used on the go instead of just at home at your desk but they don't fold flat or in on themselves at all and would take up a good half of a back pack and not fit in a messenger bag at all. So they're not practical to bring around with you but are closed back which begs the questions why not a similarly priced open back?
I'm sure most people would be happier with the HD600/he400i/dt880
I'm US what site can I use to see your prices for headphones? Sometimes there are huge discrepancies between EU and US pricing

prisjakt.no/

It's in Norwegian, just use the search bar on top of the page. It searches through most stores in Norway.

Appreciate the help by the way!

The FR for this is almost exactly the harman target which some people find to be a bit bassy
prisjakt.no/product.php?p=3393280

These are tuned very similar to the m50x if you've ever heard them. Personally the design of them is incredible to me and I wish they used it on a higher end headphone instead
prisjakt.no/product.php?p=4097520

If you give up on wireless, ath-msr7 all day

Thanks, gonna see if i cant find a store that has the sennheisers and ath-msr7 on display. Not really a fan of bass, so the JBL probably isn't for me.

My bad if I got the wrong dude.

Is pic related any good?

>K702 has better bass

There's the difference

no that was me but i never posted anything about them in this thread.
I do probably post too much in this thread. I'm the dt990 faggot who got talked into watching love live by idol trash.
dt990s aren't long for this world I'm going to buy the msr7 and thx00 or maybe the msr7 and hd600 in a few weeks.

It does from the FR but it's all sub bass so maybe they would sound very similar on some songs

Audio noob here. Just got a pair of HD600s and a JDS Element, is it normal to hear a fuzz in older recording on high volume? Everything sounds amazing but I feel like I've now exposed the weakness of some recordings. Which is good really.

It's certainly capable of revealing stuff like that but at the same time I've heard people say the hd600s can be forgiving.

Yeah obviously it would only be apparent on certain tracks (dubstep, organ recordings and house) but it seems like the k702 are a much better investment.

>k702 are a much better investment.
check the 100 dB distortion values and come back.

>it seems like the k702 are a much better investment.
Good god, no. They're treble cannon tools. Not as bad as the 880 but still really bad

who the fuck listens to anything at 100dB

more excuses for usual dynamic deficiencies

comifest headphones?

That measurement of the HD 600 doesn't seems to be much reliable.

Superbestaudiofriends measured a difference of 8 dB between 20 Hz and 100 Hz.
diyaudioheaven also measured a difference of 8 dB between 20 Hz and 100 Hz
rtings measured a difference of 10 dB between 20 Hz and 100 Hz

The measurements from innerfidelity show a much bigger difference between channels than the rest of measurements available, and the probably faulty channel was chosen for these comparisons.

By the way, these three websites show almost no difference on the sub-bass roll-off between the HD 600 and other planar magnetic headphones like the HE400i.
