What advantage does sublime still hold? Code is at good enough speed, is more extensible, and free. If you care about 0.5 seconds longer startup you would be better off with vim.
Don't get me wrong, I like sublime for what it is but it did nothing to keep up with atom or code. Atom may not have the speed, but they developed a better feature set and once MS optimised Code, sublime lost its purpose.
I like it but I want an integrated terminal panel
Uhm the fact it's not written in shitty electron js
use VS Code or Vim. More extensible and still as fast.
>VS Code
>still as fast.
I dont see people at /lit/ arguing which pen to use

I honestly don't see why you would use a text editor for code when IDEs exist.
Sure you can extend it with a bunch of packages, but it will never work as smoothly as an IDE.
>want to change a few lines in my code
>start a bloated IDE just to do it

Do you usually program one line at a time?
textmate -> sublime -> code
there's no way around the simple fact that while sublime was the successor to textmate, code is now the successor to sublime that does everything better.
yes
Neovim exists.
You must be very productive
Former Sublime user here, VS Code is WAY better on both Mac and Windows. I'm a complete convert.
Why would i use this instead of vim?
it's also better on Linux
btw I use Arch Linux
because I've been using Emacs as long as I use GNU plus Linux. It's still the most customizable text editor out there and it's keybindings are burnt into my brain.
Why the fuck do people still invest time in Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Adobe products if there is any other option? They want nothing more than to fuck you over. Doesn't that ever bother anyone anymore?
Take your tech SJWism elsewhere. I judge software based on function and performance, not political ideology and code of conduct.
how am I investing time by using vscode? I literally save time by using it and I don't give ms anything in return
>Code is at good enough speed
that's really a tiny advantage unless you're working on an ancient machine.
the tech used is only be relevant to someone who has to work with the code, and not to the end user
who are you quoting?
>who are you quoting?
I honestly don't see why you would use a IDE for code.
Sure it has a ton of features, but on a modular and/or extensible text editor like Vim or Emacs, you can add just what you need without all of the bloat and run much smoother than any IDE.
oh right, I'm blind. he's right though, I've been using vscode for 6 hours a day during the last 3 months on a shitty 5-year-old laptop and I'm very happy with it
Project wide refactoring is something that text editors can never do well
It's important that my text editor take at least 2 gigs of space. Also, I can only get off if I'm getting cucked by Google, Apple, or MS.
Maybe you should structure your code better if you need to do a project-wide refactor
vim is objectively better.
ctrl+f replace all does a pretty phenomenal job babes
if you need anything deeper, stop copying and pasting everything
>vscode
>as fast
pick one
Style, fads, trends, fashion. People who liked these also liked talking about IDEs.
I love how many 200 IQ superhacker k0ders who don't need no tools we have here
too bad none of them make it out of their basements
If you never needed to do a project-wide refactor then you have no experience working on serious projects
>not notepad++
wew
I use VS Code for merge conflicts
Other than that it's sublime all day err day
Why is there always at least one of you working at every business I've ever seen? The amount of unnecessary bloat you intentionally add to a system is so detrimental
>Windows
WEW
because micro exists
only fags use gui applications for programming
Sublime Text 3 a BEST.

Even Hacker News has figured this out.

This.
Also Sublime is closed source?
>Vim
This is (You).

VSCode has telemetry that cannot be completely disabled. Microsoft, who would've thought?
Sublime Text appears to have no telemetry on stable builds but does on dev builds. Plugins can freely send data. Of note, the SideBarEnhacements plugin for ST secretly sent data to a company called Kite until it was exposed.
Atom has opt-out telemetry. Similar to ST, plugins can freely send data. Popular plugins also secretly sent data to Kite.
Here's a source on the secret telemtery: qz.com
Basically, VSCode should never be touched because Microsoft wants your data whether you want to give it or not.
ST and Atom are better in the telemetry sense but plugins should be used with extreme caution. Closed-source is a big negative for ST but their business model inspires confidence that they do not track their users (on the stable build at least).
Folks who really care about their privacy but need to get shit done should really learn Vim or Emacs or one of the spinoffs. As long as your work is doable in a UNIX environment, your productivity will match the popular text editors after some time.
*blocks your path*
You guys and your petty threads. I require about 2 features in my IDE. If you think anything else plays a role in how well you code you're ass at coding.
Idk user there are so many letters in the alphabet
What are the differences between Sublime Text v1 and v3?

Care to elaborate?
Linux too
Same. I use it at my work's 2014 Mac fucking Mini and it's excellent.
No complaints. Literally the only thing I could do with Sublime I can't do with code is... well... opening shit like 5MB JPGs accidentally. VSCode takes like 20 seconds to load files bigger than 3MB.
Emacs exists
You have to mod it for days so it doesn't look and handle like shit.
VSCode just werks out of the box.
Because Vim and Emacs will still exists long after that Python trash is gone. Now take your UNREGISTERED copy and shove it up your ass!
It does not have autocomplete. And I can't memorize all api.
vscode is pretty great, but I wish I could open two folders without having to switch window.
try out the project manager extension
might be what you're looking for
Sublime Text does not have a built-in live Markdown Preview.
It's also proprietary and costs $80 for the full version.
Because there are better alternatives.
I prefer Atom
I can compile VSCode from source.
>Sublime Text does not have a built-in live Markdown Preview.
whats that?
>It's also proprietary and costs $80 for the full version.
ask me for a key and you got it free
Thanks, that's really nice.
>whats that?
Pic related. It updates as you type.
>ask me for a key and you got it free
Can't do that without breaking the law.
I just open the parent folder. A recent update added recursive git functionality which is nice.
Editors like Atom and VSCode have a feature that allows you to preview your Markdown documents in realtime.
Yeah maybe I'll make a vscode folder and symlink all projects into it.
do you, though?
I have no idea about v1, but here's a list of changes from 2 to 3.
sublimetext.com
I don't. I bought a license for sl3 alpha years ago. I have literally tried everything and nothing comes close to sl3.
I'll take a key
is this link supposed to prove vscode has telemetry you can't completely disable? because it doesn't. unless you call software checking if new version is available (can be disabled btw) "telemetry" which would make you a tech-illiterate retard who uses words he doesn't understand
you can do that in insiders build
That's because Pilot G2 won

retard
he still didn't answer me how the fuck is microsoft trying to beat me up with vscode?
propietary software (possible botnet) and expensive desu considering the alternatives
VS code just werks as fast
EVIL emacs
Is the synthesis
It is the peak
>Why would you use anything else?
because I want my fucking sidebar on the fucking right side
How do I disable the Sublime popup telling me to buy it?
They're fucking delusional if they think I'm going to pay for a text editor
Because you can't fucking escape autocompleted quotes or parentheses.
get a hex editor and make them go away (also, scroll up, click on the github link)
can you theme the title bar on MacOS or is this a different OS?
