Linux already supports a shitton of multiplats since "Linux support" became pretty mainstream nowadays, we're not talking about Linux-exclusive titles here, but those games which are pretty much on everything. Adding additional Linux support for a multiplat that's on consoles and Windows, became quite trendy in the last 3-or-so years. And this applies to both indies and AAAs alike.

This particular one definitely wouldn't be competing with the "BIG THREE" at this current time. It's just Atari's return to the game, a raise from ashes. If Ataribox becomes successful and has great new IPs and/or exclusives, they'll definitely make a second one, and THAT one on the other hand will be competing with "BIG THREE" alright. What's most interesting about this first one is that it uses Zen APU, which is at least x8 times more powerful than PS 4, Kusone, and PS 4 Pro all three combined altogether, so it's literally all up to games now, because on hardware side there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Games will decide Ataribox's sales and popularity.

It's not, because SteamOS is shit and Steam Machines are literally emulation HTPCs. Ataribox is a full fledged home console built from ground up by the original company and under original creator's supervision, with aim at new IPs and exclusives. SteamOS/machine doesn't have exclusives, Ataribox will.
