Firefox 56 out now

Another 6 weeks passed another firefox release, it's available from the ftp, website, or automatic update. It's a pretty boring release, nothing too exciting. Just a small one compared to firefox 57 in 6 weeks when webextensions are mandatory, legacy extensions removed, and the new UI and project quantum that is in beta/developer edition/nightly becomes available for stable which is supposed to make firefox significantly faster.

What's interesting is that nightly, developer edition, and beta still have the extensions.legacy.enabled about:config entry. I wonder how long till nightly and others start to remove it

answer this

It's flat, the new photon UI is pretty flat.

I hate this flat UI design, when will it end?

Will it make my add ons compatible now?

Extensions won't get broken until 57, if you have legacy extensions it'll still work for a few more weeks

Why should I run this over ESR?

>it's faster! gotta go fast!
Who cares? I sure don't, the best way to make the web faster is to block JS. Speed is the least important attribute of a browser anyway.

:( it was the only thing i was looking forward to

the must have addon
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/javascript-control/

Updated and now YouTube videos won't play until I click on the tab, how can I revert this?

>Firefox 57 will be the Windows 10 of browsers
it will be a perfect tism-storm, with autistic manchildren schreeching about sjw-fox, cuckzilla & normies ruining the internet.

many people will abandon ship and migrate to other browsers, such as pale moon or waterfox. but eventually they'll come crawling back with tail between legs.

the majority won't care as long as they can play social media & surf porn. those who got above-average skills will tweak away the minor annoyances.

Netrunner will undoubtedly fail/fade into obscurity because that's what happens to Sup Forums project

Go into about:config and change Media.block-autoplay-until-in-foreground to false.

Project Quantum focuses on speed of CSS not JS. Still if you need old extensions, stick to FF 56. ESR offers nothing over it really.

Do webextensions work on ESR 52?

Worked, cheers.

better than 55

The entry is still there but it doesn't work anymore, just tested that with the latest nightly, the latest developer, and the Quantum build from yesterday and none of them allow me to install older or unsigned/unverified addons (and yes I disabled the requirement for signatures as well).

"The shitstorm has officially begun..."

No? AFAIK, only NPAPI plugins work with ESR 52.

I'm on nightly right now and I could still enabled legacy addons with the about:config entry and install a legacy addon like greasemonkey

it's not about being fast, it's more about not being limited by the browser itself; I'm currently testing 57, and it feels only limited by my connection speed now, it's very responsive with many heavy tabs opens

That's a fucking retarded extension.
Most sites won't work with JS disabled entirely so you're gonna have to flip the switch on 99% of sites making the extension pointless.
Also you can just disable JS in your about:config so no need for an extension.

You need uMatrix so you can allow on a per-site and per-type basis.

>flat UI

If you're on the latest nightly which is 58a1 you're full of shit. If you're using Nightly 57b2 or prior, maybe, but starting with 57b3 and then jumping to 58a1 that setting does not work anymore.

For someone criticizing autistic men children and their screeching you seem to be doing quite a lot the same.

addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmarks-folder-images/

...

I was using nightly 58a1 earlier and could still enable legacy and install greasemonkey

why don't you use the sidebar for all those bookmarks, like a normal person?
you know that you can organize them in folders and open all those in a folder with one click?

these are just my favorites, I also have more in the bookmarks folder

how? by hurting your feelings?

it sounds like you split them in two places
IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE
if you keep the sidebar open, you can give a central spot to those you use the most, it also helps with a 1920px monitor
for the same reason, I keep the system bar on the left, not on the bottom, so everything is at hand that way, and I don't waste a pixel vertically

firefox has a bunch of SJW messages in the user interface. get rid of them. it's stupid.

So is there anyway I can somehow import/inject a search engine into my Firefox Quantum on Android? I've searched with the search engine I want to default but Firefox never picks it up

...

Nobody cares. Firefox is dead.

You can also set keywords for each one, remove the bar, then just type something like "/a" to get "animu"as your first, "yt" for youtube, "w" for wikipedia em shit like that.
Seems easier, faster, cleaner and you should try.

There is only one extension/addon that I will not be able to use with Firefox 57 and that is NoScript. It is my understanding that NoScript is being ported but what should I use until then?

uMatrix. Its better than NoScript anyway, it offers finer-grained control and the dev doesn't engage in shady practices on his homepage like the NoScript guy does.

I use duckduckgo so I could type "!yt" if I wanted to go to youtube for example.

I like having the bookmarks bar because I can access my most common websites with less clicks and without reaching to the keyboard.

You cared enough to reply

IMPORTANT: if you're using Firefox 57 you'll need to open about:config and turn the extensions.legacy.enabled preference to true, otherwise the browser will refuse to install Noscript.
Also, please use latest development build.
NoScript is currently a Hybrid WebExtension, and therefore won't install on Firefox 57 pre-releases without this trick. Before Firefox 57 is released in the stable channel, a pure WebExtension NoScript will be available an you'll be automatically migrated to it. Notice also that, for this trick to work, you really need a "blueish" Firefox, either Firefox Developer Edition or Nightly.

where exactly?
my home and my new tabs are set to about:blank

actually I had to install an addon to make new tabs "really blank" (stupid mozilla):

addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

startpage.com/

the link "Add to Firefox" isn't working?

No it's not not SP it's actually Swagbucks they used to have a plugin xpi that you could just straight up install but that was years ago and I haven't used the search engine in ages anyaay, similar to Bing Points/Bing Rewards but offers more shit for free so that's why I like it to get a couple free gift cards every now and then

It fucked with my umatrix

>steam friend with anime girl as avatar

Is electrolysis in full swing now instead of media workers only?

Are you using the dev channel for it? Because you'll probably have to use that til he pushes something to the stable.

yes
check about:support
also check with CCleaner (tools>browser plugins) if you have "Multi-process staged rollout" active
I've disabled all the others hidden plugins btw

LAST FIREFOX WITH EXTENSIONS

uMatrix, srsly. Blanket toggling JS on / off for every script linked on one domain it's fucking useless.

many dev are working on replacements to land smoothly this November, check their websites/GitHub or whatever support forum they are using, example:

adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54101

AMO website is listing many addons as "incompatible" with FF 56 or 57: sometimes this isn't true; check the versions, they may have notes about minor glitches, and you could be able to install them regardless

Does anyone know a replacement for FireFTP since it uses legacy ? I really liked having an FTP client embedded into the browser instead of having to get a seperate program for it.

the setting is still there in 58a1, but APIs that legacy extensions rely on are being removed over time, so regardless of the setting things will start to break.

anyone that uses this with Firefox 56? any problems?

Citation needed.

>Rikaisama
What the fuck do I do?

Have you tried yomichan?

>which is supposed to make firefox significantly faster.
i dont understand this shit, browsers already load pages faster than i jizz, why the fuck are they worried about "speed"?

if you open 900 pages per day and you save 1 second each you'll get 15 minutes of extra time

but that's not the difference, the difference is more like .01 seconds
it's mostly dependent on your hardware anyways.
fucking assholes should be building on efficiency, not attempting to push more data and faggotry through a webpage, literally no need to have to download 300mb just to read an article.

>no need to have to download 300mb just to read an article.

to read articles you can use Calibre: they'll appear like an ePub book:

calibre-ebook.com/about

the only way I've got pages loading that slowly is by using a bunch of horrendous legacy addons that attempt to do a lot of page transformations for reasons unknown, the difference using good addons on both browsers is extremely minimal outside of some subjective rendering techniques to change perception of loading speed

that said chrome's javascript engine is quite a bit better but it shouldn't make a difference if you're not loading a bunch of very large pages with a metric ass load of javascript frequently, but even then it's maybe 250-500~ms slower on the extreme end for cold loads

neat, thanks user

Fascinating

Does anyone know what in the fuck Firefox does with scrolling? Any website that relies on scrolling to trigger an animation looks jagged and laggy as hell on firefox, while of course, every other browser renders as expected. The catch? shit renders properly as soon as you open the devtools window.

>idiot
sorry m8
