Hi guys

...

story of my 7 year old laptop, main shitposting machine, got me through undergrad and phd
(1/2)

In the first year, I sent it out to warranty with the fan too loud and perhaps to replace the optical drive. I don't know if they did either or just put apply some new thermal paste. I also complained about the SD card slot, but don't remember what happened to it.
After that, over the years, I have had to replace:
- Audio/mic/leds jack
- speakers (one on the left failed due to me spilling things drunk)
- keyboard (multiple times, also my fault as speakers)
- wi-fi card
- charger, battery (multiple times, regular wear and tear)
- motherboard itself (gpu failing, primary hdd sata port failed)
- touchpad ribbon cable (so many times I've opened my laptop that I've torn it)

I've also upgraded:
- HDD from 160 GB 7200rpm to slower 5400rpm 1TB: this is now in the DVD-RW slot as I've used an adapter controller so I can add:
- SSD 120GB as the main drive
- CPU from AMD Athlon II 2.1Ghz dual-core to AMD Turion II 2.4Ghz (better L2 cache levels as well, this was a $6 used cpu upgrade while the higher end Turions I wasn't sure that my laptop even supported, in the service manual this was the one they showed was okay, and were a lot more expensive)

Things I have NOT replaced:
- RAM (currently on 4GB DDR2, want to get 2 x 4GB sticks but DDR2 SO-DIMM is hard to find in that size and expensive)
- chassis and buttons, various wiring
- screen
Very fond of it as it has a full sized keyboard as well (and I need it, especially since I bought it to be able to play independence war 2 properly).

Now today I've finally cracked one more thing I've been having trouble with recently and frankly was giving me a lot of grief. Due to the battery failing again, laptop would not start for ages, was really finnicky, like an old car. Unplug it and it would not start for a day or maybe it would start right away. It'd'd had this fault for months or years, who knows at this point, and I learned to live with it. I've finally found the fault not to be with any hardware (as many forums suggest power jack/charger/faulty motherboard), but if you can believe it, because I had the latest BIOS version instead of an older one! With the latest BIOS version, if you try to power it on with no battery or faulty battery, it doesn't work. Managed to start it and downgraded to the oldest BIOS I could find. Now it finally starts the first time again with no issues!

Very happy about this as I want to be able to smoke weed in the bathroom tomorrow night and watch some cheeky porn but moving it is such a pain in the ass.

In the end, I realise most of it is not the same, but it remains the same in essence.

She's getting an Asus 21.5 inch 1080p IPS, boys.

Can't wait till it comes.

It's one of those low power intel thingies that you see shipped in the macbook air.

Best speccy.

>1080Ti
>1080p60

1st gen low power mobile processor. 1.2GHz.

r u antartica?

I think it may be a cool n quiet bug, when have the cpu running at 4.2ghz 24/7, it will idle between 22-29C.

me me me me me :)

...

next time.

Talking with a guy to try and get a GTX 690 for $200 kangaroo dollars.
Also not sure if I want to travel 50km for a GTX 680

GTX 690 is a cool boutique card, but that power draw just isn't worth it for two GPUs are getting closer and closer to becoming potatoes.

Power draw isn't really a concern for me. Been meaning to get a better power supply for efficiency rating and modularity anyway. This is a 450W Bronze non-modular PSU, so was considering getting a higher wattage, gold rated, semi/fully-modular supply so I won't need to upgrade it for a while.
Plus, it's better than muh 750 Ti.
Oh well, cheers for the input, user.

hope you get it, I bought my 980ti from my coworker for $200 ameribucks when he upgraded to a 1080ti.

> 690 housefire over 750 Ti

oh shit what are you doing, just find some used Radeon

Basic machine here. Built from scratch a few months ago

Upgraded from the following a few weeks ago:
Ram: 4GB
OS: W7 Professional 32bit
CPU: AMD Athlon Processor (P360 II, somethin' like that)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 4200

Don't get me wrong, user, I don't care about brand loyalty, I'm just wanting a better graphics card. However, there are fuck all Radeon cards anywhere nearby because mining, and the ones that are available are massively inflated in price while the people that are selling them think they're undervaluing them.

Really ain't worth it, 2gb of vram (its not cumulative) like your 750ti and sli doesn't always work. Friend had a 690 and it died after a year and a half for no reason was luckily just within warranty from store he got it from and got given the cash back to get a 980ti. But it seriously while it may seem like a good card is just super powerhungry, better off trying to get a 980 or even 1060 or newer sorta gpu if you can.

Working this stuff into the corsair 570x was the most painful thing ever
But me likey

>tempered glass case
Shit, I'd be scared of it falling over but it looks cool.

It does look amazing in person but my next case will probably be a lian li 909 due to the difficulty and how tight everything has to be in the corsair

Im a retard, meant inwin 909 not lian li
