Women in STEM general

We talk about:

Why is there an underrepresentation of women in STEM.

Is underrepresentation something that needs to be addressed and solved?

If so what can be done?

etc

Women are already like 80% of all graduating college students in the US, why do insane feminists want total hegemony on education?

...

Why is there an underrepresentation of women in Subway Sandwich artists.

Is underrepresentation something that needs to be addressed and solved?

If so what can be done?

there are so many other fields where women are over represented and under represented, by a lot. you should start there.

Why settle for a portion when you can take the whole cake

>Why is there an underrepresentation of women in STEM.
Because it's easier to get a Women's Studies degree and bitch about why women aren't in STEM than it is to enter the STEM field.
>Is underrepresentation something that needs to be addressed and solved?
If it's an actual problem whose solution is beneficial then the free market will fix it automagically without meme studies getting involved

They need programming socks

we're going to fucking genocide the roasties
fucking kill em all. fucking BITCH fucking skank WHORES fucking CUNTS. Women should DIE FOR ME.
piano wire soon you dumb fucks.

>Why is there an underrepresentation of women in STEM
Because they would rather not work or study.
They go to college to get dicks inside of them.

>If so what can be done?
Teaching them that being a housewife is not a job.
They'll work their way up from there when they see how shit minimum wage is.

>wage gap
Do you still believe in fairy tales?

I see no one cares that there are virtually no women mechanics. maybe they only care about stem because they think it'll be a cushy good paying job that's easy. and rather than admit that when they see they're wrong they blame the atmosphere

hmmm

I think many of these feminsits have a cartoonish idea of what 'being in stem' is like.

They imagine someone going to work in a lab coat smiling, looking in a microscope, and then getting promoted by their boss.

They don't see how hard you have to grind in school, how tedious the work can be if you have no actual passion for it.

>get $10,000 because you have a vagina or a mental gender issue
Women play life on EASY MODE.

You realize they give the award to no more than 5 people, right?
It's not google is handing money out to everyone with a vagina.

The two boxes in the top-right are a real redpill - even the good women engineers I graduated with are going into management, education, or other fields. Even if they have the skill, they're simply not interested in being engineers.

>males can't even join the competition if they don't have a mental gender disorder
Yeah, equal opportunity in the flesh and bones ;^)

They just want a college education and an easy, but well-paid job, without any physical/mental challenges involved.

Playing life on easy mode just because they have a hole.

It's not really that.
Women do it to themselves.
Taking a STEM degree path is nerd shit that alienates friendshops and the only reason they're biting now is the promise of a cushy job at the other end.

They are """biting""" because the fields they are into are 10 times easier than what men study, since they are adjusted for retards.

>programming socks
>on a woman
Are you gay or something?

just look at the difference between pythoncon and cppcon.
as difficulty goes up, percent of females go down.

>the race pie chart

There are more Pajeets in STEM than any race, fake and gay

Given that a woman literally runs the most exciting semiconductor company in the world and is widely respected throughout the industry, I'd say that women are doing ok.

more like SCAM in Tech, SAGE

Because back in the eighties commodore made blue computers instead of pink because market research says parents will spend more money on their sons than daughters. No one cared for twenty years because up until 1999-2000, then some shitty Vince Vaughn movie to now, technology was weird nerd shit and not worth the social consequences just like sanitation work but in business formal. Now feminists are briefly publicly vocal like they were in the seventies, so we're hearing them complain that the world is sexist again. By coincidence tech being sexy and feminists being loud is happening at the same time.

Because it's too hard for their tiny women brains and no women belong in the kitchen.

What does your girlfriend or wife say about your misogyny, Sup Forums?

European here.

I read this article about 4-5 months ago that AmeriGUN women already make over 70% of all college graduates in US.

How can you even claim that women need more representation in academia if majority is already women?

Where does it end? 90%? 100%?

She laughs and says something equally against men and we joke and get on with our lives

I mean if women wanted to do STEM they would go into it.
It's not a problem with society it's a problem with women choosing a major based on social status not what career they want to pursue

Choice. It's choice. In countries where women have the opportunity to freely choose their careers, they tend to pick humanitarian subjects. However, in countries where status and a high economical income are the norm regardless of gender (think asia) a lot more girls pick STEM.
So, yeah. Girls don't tend to like math a lot, that's about it.

It's not even choice. The choice has been made for them before they could even speak. Their parents bought them dolls and toy prams, and taught them how they can be useful to bear children when they grow up. Meanwhile their male siblings are given train tracks, racing cars and other interesting toys, which challenged their curiosity. By around age 5 it's already too late - their imprinted and are already under peer pressure to play the little princess role.

Before becoming a web developer, I had jobs in the healthcare and construction industries. I've been in the minority and the overwhelming majority. In neither case did anyone give a shit about the gender representation.

As soon as I get a safe, easy, indoor high-paying job... suddenly its the greatest social injustice imaginable.

Everything James Damore wrote was correct.

Nice thread, guaranteed 300 replies. Suck a dick.

damn you sure lived in a shitty family and think women are not smart enough to break the cycle like many other men do, i.e a family filled with medics pressuring a guy to be a doctor but he deciding he'll be an engineer.

Are you a misogynist?

More like the choice was made by their genes.

>muh soggy knees
nice bait thread retard, sage

except thats what boys and girls tend to prefer regardless of outside influence.

> can't understand sarcasm
i doubt you can even code with that IQ sir

Tim Cuck is a man.

I made no such claim that women can't break the cycle, and that's obvious by the fact that their are plenty of smart women in STEM.

I'm just implying that they're inherently disadvantaged compared to boys because their parents give them toys which are modeled after the tools used by housewives, and because this is acceptable in society, they are under peer pressure to maintain the "to become housewife" image. Boys are not under the same peer pressure.

> doll vs cars
> cars are more challanging
dumb argument
also toy choice is proven to be natural choice affected by hormones.

> cars are more challanging
Cars are fun at an early age. Then they become electric and they're even more fun. Next they become computer games which are even more fun.

Girls toy progression is basically
> plain old doll
> doll whose clothes change
> doll that drinks and pisses
> doll that dresses like a slut (barbie)
> doll which wears makeup, changes clothes, jumps in chad's cars, drinks underage and also pisses.

There are many reasons

1. Consciencious women tend to be more orderly than industrious. So they tend to take less carrier-oriented jobs
2. Women tend to be more interested in people than men. So they take jobs that deal more with people or living things
3. There are less extremely intelligent women (also less extremely dumb women). Stem require intelligence
4. Open women tend to be more versed in aesthetics than ideas. Aesthetics is the last concern of the engineer, the scientist and the mathematician.

Keep in mind that these things don't show up much in average people but maximise in the extremes. The bell curves aren't that far apart but due to their morphology, the male/female ratio maximises the farther you go from the mean. Some of these readons are (at least partly) biological, others are socially reinforced.

>8% wage gap
How do we increase this number?

damn son you sure still live in 16th century america.

> I made no such claim that women can't break the cycle, and that's obvious by the fact that their are plenty of smart women in STEM.
could it be that's just a minority interested in STEM and it's challenges just like the amount of male nurses?
NO, muh sexism.

> I'm just implying that they're inherently disadvantaged compared to boys because their parents give them toys which are modeled after the tools used by housewives, and because this is acceptable in society, they are under peer pressure to maintain the "to become housewife" image.

So you think a healthy normal woman will reject all current facilities and woman only scholarships for her to study for a job she will be hired faster than her male peers, earn more at entrance than her male peers, a comfy office job and above average income (compared to other women) just because she played with dolls and daddy said "programming is dumb and only men and nonfags should do it, now go make babies!". gtfo.

> Boys are not under the same peer pressure.

No, they are only pressured to provide, serve in the military, pay child support, approach women, pay dinner, the car, the house, fix shit, take on shit jobs, take on shit pay, be manly, be a gentleman, don't be a pussy, don't be so cold, betty why are you banging pablo the gate keeper? babe you are hardly around!

Women may be seen as sex objects to worship, but remember you and I are just seen as tools for the means. So suck it up there ain't no sexism in STEM, we are all equally worthless down here.

You know that children also choose those tipes of toys by themselves even before socialisation. Heck, it's even reproduced with young chimps. It's genetic and dates back way before humans were humans.

>Sup Forums
>girlfriend

but thats what girls prefer.
stop oppressing them by forcing them to do things they dont like because your equality cult demands it.

>could it be that's just a minority interested in STEM and it's challenges just like the amount of male nurses?

I'm suggesting that the early choices in life made for them are reflected in what they're interested in later in life. You are what you feed. Girls won't become interested in STEM unless they're given opportunities to learn about them as children (and I don't mean forced "learning", as in school where everything is about passing tests).

> So you think a healthy normal woman will reject all current facilities and ...

I'm arguing that by the time she's a women and knowledgeable enough to make the choice, she's already a decade behind male peers who were "geeks" at school and didn't care for vanity.

Why is there an underrepresentation of women in coal mining?

Is underrepresentation something that needs to be addressed and solved?

If so what can be done?

I'm no SJW, just pointing out an observation that their will never be the same interest for women and men while they're imprinted with the stereotypical gender roles before they can even think for themselves.

See

They are made biologically to breed, what surprises you? id you don't like it, well bad luck, search another species

yea, im sure if you take away their dolls, they will gladly give up socializing and spend their childhood in front of a computer screen learning how it works.

We want equality! Because paid autism is somewhat enviable.

Are you aware of what teenage girls do these days?

They spend their time in front of computer screens posing. Imitating the dolls and princesses they were force fed for the first several years of their life.

And the ones that don't look so good or don't cave to peer pressure in other ways get bullied to fuck. Not by men or boys, but by other girls. They end up depressed or an hero. Girls are horrendous bullies so it's no surprise that most of them flock along and the stereotypes persist.

Being a "geek" is almost a death sentence to a 13 year old girl. And today's social networks have only compounded the problem by making vanity a requirement 24/7.

Hey girls have autism too. Its just too bad their autism is not very useful.

>If it's an actual problem whose solution is beneficial then the free market will fix it automagically
>the free market fixes literally any problem
Please leave. Forever.

Get out roastie. No matter how disgusting you are there is invariably a queue of men willing to be with you.

Remove sexism. And women will start taking an interest.

Hey moron! fucking moron!
Guess who else is already a decade behind the "geeks" and "nurds", yeah, the jock that bullied them and the girls that never dated them.
That successfull senior programmer at oracle or that well known internet startup 'genius' are there because they sacrificed shit to get there even tho they were looked down by other males AND females.

Now old stuck up single mom stacy who mocked little billy for jacking off to strange symbols in a computer screen is begging for a date with him cuz he's got the big bucks now.

> ...who were "geeks" at school and didn't care for vanity.
Good luck trying to 'desocialize' vanity from girls.

Your view is 'kind' misogyny, because you think socialized girls are not as smart as socialized boys.

More Fucking
Less Sucking

It's not women you need to take an interest. It's girls, and the earlier they take an interest the better. Any significant change will take at least a generation to occur, and it won't happen by paying women already in STEM the same as men are paid.

What needs to happen is society as a whole needs to stop idolizing TV stars, pop artists and "accidental" porn stars. When girls aren't preoccupied with vanity they might have the same amount of free time as boys for autodidacticism (which is a requirement, because school alone won't make you succesful)

There is a simple solution:

Ban social networks.

>because you think socialized girls are not as smart as socialized boys.

I don't think that at all. I just think that there's less pressure for boys to be chads, and it's more acceptable to be a geek (in fact, it's probably somewhat fashionable in the past decade or so). Girls have less freedom because peer pressure is higher and it's not yet fashionable to be a geek.

But if we're talking about tech specifically. It's hardly uncommon to find "unsocialized" males. They make up a significant part of the industry, and in large part because in fields which require a high level of specialization, thus years of study, the ones who started learning of earliest, of their own accord, have a clear advantage over the ones who started studying because they had to pick some subjects to study at college (and decided afterwards what career they wanted to go into).

We Korea now?

did you ever consider the fact that women are not the same as men?
is trying to make them the same in every way somehow more natural and free of bias then what we have now?

>(in fact, it's probably somewhat fashionable in the past decade or so)
no its not. its just easier to do those things now so it became more popular.
the actual ugly difficult stuff still gets you shunned as a nerdy loser.

I can't click the video, can you link it?

> it's not yet fashionable to be a geek.
please google geek girl and tell me it ain't fashionable afterwards.

By the way for your assertion to be true we need to suppose most girls are just interested in what's fashionable rather than what they want, compared to boys.

>...the ones who started learning of earliest, of their own accord, have a clear advantage over the ones who started studying because they had to pick some subjects to study at college

that is true for everyone on any subject, NOT JUST WOMEN.

Science: All kids take at least biology, physics, chemistry at some point regardless of their gender in most countries.
Technology: All kids take computer science at least once regardless of their gender.
Engineering: Workshops in highschool like electronics, robotics, woodwork, etc are available for all students regardless of their gender.
Mathematics: As far as I know everyone who has attended some form of education has either loved or hated this subject, regardless of their gender.

Maybe we should observe what most students do and how they perform on those subjects, maybe we see most girls going into drama or debate clubs, maybe we see only nerds focus on maths and computer science and take it upon themselves to learn more at home, maybe we observe most students don't like mathe....NO, NO, NO...SEXISM.

> It's hardly uncommon to find "unsocialized" males

Shit boii, if you went to highschool...were most of your classmates unsocialized tech or math wizards?

I really doubt it.

>Engineering: Workshops in highschool like electronics, robotics, woodwork, etc are available for all students regardless of their gender.
i wish. my school sucked

mine too, i had none of the shit listed there, i live in a third world country and I'm still into CS, I still learned to program at 13 and I'm still going for a CS major.

Gender, age, sex or whatever are just excuses.

Stop your hate speech, user.

Hello, I'm a woman, please donate to my Patreon, I need 10k a month so I can read through this coding book.
I love Big Bang Theory and am overall a total nerd.

So what can we do about the underrepresentation of women in shitty low paying manual labor jobs?

reminds me of those females on gittip (i think it was called that) that did nothing but fixing typos or writing COCs yet were the top earners on the site
