Is Firefox 57 the death of Firefox?

Hell, I can't even get 56 to stop randomly crashing.

No, a lot of people have been impressed by the 57 previews and rightly so.

it just werks

Yeah maybe if you're a fag and uses 0 addons

Perhaps those that need more than a adblocker, user{script, style} and contrast fix addon are the faggots. Nobody cares about you tabwhores.

>ESR
Shit, I never thought of downloading that, it'd certainly fix my problem with 56's random crashes.

Now to Google around and see if there's a way to get a non-vulnerable version working without having to reinstall all of my addons.

I need the ability to customize my browser the way I want it and with powerful addons to boot. Sorry you're a fag who hates freedom

t. google shill on suicide watch

Nah, you are just some ugly neckbeard with attention problems.
Too bad you can't fit the only free, as in freedom, browser into your autistic, pedopholic anime desktop.

FF57 works great and is fast af!
i always use the beta branch and never had any probs. 57b1 crashed a few times but they fixed it with 57b2 pretty fast

Freedom always comes at a cost.
e.g. You are free to:
* Create your own browser
* Create your own plugins for your browser(s)
* Complain like a bitch about free stuff

So far i just a little nitpick: i cant remove the navigation arrows

>ugly neckbeard
Try again
>pedopholic anime desktop
Not even close, pic related

>Freedom always comes at a cost
There is little to no cost in my example

Just download it from the official mozarella site. The point of esr is only getting security updates and avoiding all "feature" updates, same as windows 10 ltsb.

>Not even close, pic related
Then why are you hiding from windows 10?

Because Windows 10 is shit. Can't stand the UI and spyware to boot. Literally offers no benefit over 7 either. I'll move to Linux before 10.

quantum is the best browser on the market

Some extensions like ublock origin don't work properly in ESR 52

but i'm using ublock origin on esr and it werks

I'd rather kill myself than browsing the internet without an adblocker.

so ff beta or ff nightly?

i just want to use the one where most of my addons will work

>Literally offers no benefit over 7 either
Aside from the obscure shit that nobody uses and therefore obviously doesn't count (like the night light), the newest DirectX is the only counter to your claim that I can think of.

>newest DirectX
Basically and the Linux subsystem but Cygwin works fine and is sufficient for now with my cronjobs and everything it covers.

Firefox 57 must be fucking incredible, because the chrome shills are in desperation mode lately.
Can't wait.

what's the Sup Forums recommended browser?

Chrome/Chromium, FF/Nightly and popular derivants such as Palemoon and Waterfox all suck for one reason or another.

I think Ungoogled Chromium is the most common.

no, it's the rebirth of Firefox

>I need the ability to customize my browser the way I want
try finding a browser with better customization abilities that firefox's about:config and userChrome.css
good luck

I like FF's customization, but it goes to shit with 57.

I've had few problems with either on mac or linux. I had my profile get corrupted a couple weeks ago, which was pretty easy to recover from, and it needs to offload video rendering to the GPU, which I guess is coming in 59.

Something must be wrong with your install.

It's nice that firefox is going back to focus on performance and efficiency. I think the changes will be worth it in the long run.

stable, 57 (current beta) broke extensions. 56 already has a lot of improvements.

>userChrome.css
is there a way to manually get rid of the top tab bar so I just have side-tabs?

about:config and userChrome.css aren't going anywhere, which is what he mentioned in his post.

For now and without the legacy APIs alot of addons aren't possible and limits what you can do besides just some styling.
>performance and efficiency. I think the changes will be worth it in the long run
Not the way they are doing it. Killing off 70% of your addons and hurting your power users is not a good recipe for success.

yeah there is, you just dont usually pay that cost... for those plugins to exist someone has to make them.
Besides, do you know why the "old" plugins are being disabled? the old API is effed up!

#TabsToolbar {
visibility: collapse;
}

> "old" plugins are being disabled
Mozilla is removing the APIs because they are retarded

How far along are extension developers? Has uMatrix and uBlock been integrated into the new standard?

uBlock Origin is, idk about uMatrix but i think its made by the same person(?) so maybe yes

So tells exactly what customization did you loose with FF57? addons dont count as customization

>addons dont count as customization
But they do. Addons rely on API that allows customization of the browser

>Killing off 70% of your addons and hurting your power users is not a good recipe for success.
They've had 3 major versions to get ready. If greasemonkey wants to let tampermonkey drink its milkshake who are we to argue?

>They've had 3 major versions to get ready
Can't get ready when the APIs needed for the addons don't exist.
>tampermonkey
>not violentmonkey
kys

Most of that 70% were garbage to begin with or haven't been updated in years.

>DownloadThemAll
>Garbage

Firefox started Memory leaking HARD on me

Upgraded from 8.1 to 10 hoping it would fix it but it doesn't.

Basically it keeps committing ram memory and even closing it (killing the process and all) won't release my ram.

How reliable is the developer/git?

I never said DownloadThemAll was garbage, silly user. Besides, they're making a lite version of it.
downthemall.net/progress/

Just use google chrome, it's meant for redditors like you.

>implied
>serious limitations and far fewer features, but that’s a limitation of WebExtensions
Thanks Mozilla!

You so sure it's firefox or is it something else? It doesn't make sense that this isn't a common issue, and that you managed to reproduce it on a wholly new install. Either your add-ons are causing a memory leak, or something interfacing with firefox (a shared asset) is leaking and attaching itself to FF in a detrimental way. I'd look for driver issues common to your motherboard.

My linux distro still runs Firefox 55.0.3

I copied my profile, so it's totally possible it's only me but I don't really want to remove add-ons and shit to troubleshoot.

Why does my Firefox suddenly freeze? Like, the tab goes white and a little buffer wheel appears in the middle, can't open any tabs or anything.

Quit watching porn.

The new API is also partially compatible with other browsers' API, meaning its possible to make once, run everywhere
developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions

You can literally re-enable legacy addons is About:config though...

For now

>Hell, I can't even get 56 to stop randomly crashing.
Post the bugzilla report, you spewing shill.

Silly user, you just need more ram.
You can easily find some free ram downloads online!

you need more ram, dont you know you can easily download more ram online. baka

confirmed working, had to make a chrome folder in my specific profile folder (~/.mozilla/firefox/49583984etcetcetc/chrome) and make a userChrome.css file there with
@namespace url("mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); as the first line.

Until they remove the option

Once firefox 57 comes out, that about:config entry will be removed

Tabstrip hiding looks like will land either 58 or 59

Someone will just patch it back in if they do. Just like with the custom new tab page...

>ridicule the CEO away so you can add DRM, which makes firefox nonfree software
>gimp the interface to make it look like google chrome
>remove addon support that makes it competitive (barely) with chrome
Gee, I wonder (((who))) is behind this.

I have the same issue. Random crashes with Youtube left and right while using Viewtube and Greasemonkey. Created a new profile and shit is still happening. Tried Nightly and CPU usage is insane on Youtube. ESR has the crashing issue still.

Trying Safari since it has most of what I need now with extensions.

Most of g uses firefox, or some fork, youre not a gtard if youre not always browser hopping

Is Greasemonkey gonna fix their shit or not?

This is either top notch bait or you actually have no idea what is going on in browser-land.

FF 57 is the first "quantum" release and actually outperforms Chrome for some stuff (not all): youtube.com/watch?v=YIywpvHewc0

Dude, extensions.

I use Chrome, or Edge when a webpage has issues. KEK.

Chrome is alright but Edge is just ugly as fuck.

>Hell, I can't even get 56 to stop randomly crashing.
Try refreshing the profile? Especially if you haven't done it in a long time.

I used PaleMoon last two month, not bad, some minor problems.
Actually I'm testing Waterfox. Very good so far.

uMatrix WebExt version is available on the dev channel on AMO.

Can you use beta without sending feedback??

Yes, just turn it off on the settings.

>Installing rn

Beta releases/channel yes, nightly no.

Edge on iOS and Android
Chrome everywhere else

There's no way a ration and intelligent person can sit down at the computer and type something like out without being paid for it.

Why did this happen? I'm using Nightly, the tabs were normal for years in firefox and then suddenly today they started to go like this, how am I expected to use my browser - what could be the fucking usefulness of this type of stacking?

you have to change the min width now
get devcucked boi

i didnt even know about TST, this looks cool
thx user

The entire point of 57 is to remove and weaken adblocking software

The shills are going to lie and tell you it's faster, but this is all just a lie. The goal was adblocking software. They want more control of the browser and they want to be more appealing to advertisers.

Mozilla is so fucking stupid that they think making their browser identical to Chrome is going to help them regain market share

>Edge on iOS and Android
>Chrome everywhere else

fucking up the only thing that made the browser usable, quality plugins is not helping

I'm dying without vimperator

gorbae has proven you wrong you can stop shilling now

6000% sweetie

Bravemissiles win again

What's the most updated privacy focused Chromium fork?

They are trying this shit out

reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/74983i/new_minwidth_default_in_todays_nightly/

You can change it back on about:config

How to rebind the un/hide TST key?

it's really not so bad. i made a new profile under ff56, imported most of my settings, and removed all the "legacy addons", just to test out what internet life would be like using only webextensions. you can already get a lot of shit done.

worked around the lack of a real nosquint plus alternative by doing the following:

1. adding user_pref("font.size.systemFontScale", 120); to user.js in my profile folder

2. adding @namespace url(mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
* { font-size: 13px !important;
} to userchrome.css

and this is serving me very well on my hidpi screen.

then i enabled the "compact light theme", and started hunting for webextension equivalents to the extensions i have grown accustomed to.

this is what it looks like so far.

>Is shilling
>Tells others to stop shilling

>is humorless and autistic
truly shocking

>go to right click "reload tab"
>click "reload all tabs" instead
>computer explodes
>tabs everywhere

Aren't you that mindless drone from Sup Forums that makes anti-firefox thread in Sup Forums every 6 hours? Are YOU getting paid for it? I hope so.

What does Sup Forums think about greasemonkey breaking compatibility in favor of going async?

>The entire point of 57 is to remove and weaken adblocking software
This sounds conspiratorial and yet believable.

>uncustomized bookmarks bar
>not shit
Pick one. How can you live without Roomy?

What other reason is there for essentially removing add ons?

If they put unblockable ads on AMO they could make the money back.

Hanlon's razor.
