Is there anything new on cpu cooling? I've been using Noctua NH D15 for years now and there isn't even NH D16 yet.

time to upgrade to water cooling my man
Is the current noctua not working adequately? The laws of thermodynamics haven't changed recently.
i'm still rocking the d14 myself
Nothing's changed for years. be quiet has some cheaper solutions that are alright but the NH-D15 and 14 still haven't been dethroned. I think it's mostly because CPU performance has only seen marginal gains and the industry has prioritized efficiency over power because of how massive the laptop and tablet market is.
Maybe they could make a bit bulkier model which would be 1,5kg or something like that.
This.
he has a d15, why downgrade?
There's a limit to what you can reasonably sell for somebody to strap to their motherboard. If anything the next model will just be to denote their new fans that they designed with stupidly tight tolerances.
im still using CM V6GT, feels like last year it got released.
Im waiting for Cryorig cooper
You can only make a hunk of metal so huge before it becomes impractical. I could see some improvement if they replaced the aluminum with all copper, but it would be so expensive and heavy that it probably isn't worth selling.
Hard to improve on perfection.
I will buy Noctua heatsinks, when they remove these tribal white-trash fins on the edges
Do you really need it though?
I bought a D15S + extra fan recently and I'd say that's gonna last me another 5+ years.
but the macho performs better than anything noctua has
Im still pushing CM V10.
Its a TEC cooler I have no plans on changing it.
I have that one too.
the fans on it are amazing
Seconding
The Le Grand Macho RT cools about the same as the D15 but uses only one fan so it's smaller, quieter, and cheaper.

I find this hard to believe.
believe it
(You)
0.25 degrees, what's the accuracy for on board temperature sensors? +-1¿
Enjoy blowing hot air around INSIDE your case.
Retards.
THAT'S A LOTTA PIPES
>1/4 of a degree
>JavascriptTown
They should make a limited edition Copper version like thermalright did years ago.
>what are exhaust fans
Depending on the case, but it never blows out all the air instantly that the heatsink produces.
Best case scenario, you have an exhaust fan just behind the heatsinks exhaust blowing it straight out of the case.
Still, you're using air from inside the case to cool the CPU heatsink.
Not even close to having a radiator externally mounted on the case with it's own airflow.
Don't people with air coolers usually have better VRM temps because of the air wooshing around the motehrboard?
I think what you're pointing out means exactly the opposite of what you think it does.
You do realize exhaust fans are allowed without a CLC as well right?
>He thinks an outside rad is going to be any better
lol, get a load of this moran.
It's the same results pretty much everywhere, TweakTown just came first in my search.
All the review sites show it coming in around the same cooling perf as the D15, but with lower noise and better clearance.
these are retards for you
Will thermalright send out free adapters for new CPU sockets?
Noctua are pretty good that way.
That Grand Mach RT looks sexy AF though.
I have Thermalright Macho 120 rev.A heatsink with Noctua NF-S12B fan. Works like a fucking charm.
I have the exact same air cooler. Thought about getting a Corshair H100i ages ago but never got around to it. Since I currently have no overheating issues Im in no rush to change it out.
What are some legitimate criticisms of current CLCs?
Pic related is old and they seem to have really nailed the formula now.
>Cryorig cooper
Jesus Christ. They must weigh a ton.
And expensive af too. Will be interesting to see their cooling performance.
DIAMOND
idk why diamond coated heatsinks/thermalpaste isn't more normalized yet, nothing even compares to it.
>board temperature sensors?
depending on the chip, but usually 2-5C
Passive phase-change
No fans, but capable of cooling a Threadripper and Titan Xp
yeah but i really wanna know why case makers haven't made fan placements for the back of the motherboard.
shit would help VRM/RAM/pci lanes/NB/cpu socket temps better than anything.
maker nano is good, if that's what you mean, but it's not mindblowing
liquid metal outperforms it
There are cases that try to accomplish this with a very large cutout in the motherboard tray and airflow behind it.
But I only really ever remember seeign what you're describing once, and that may have been a mod. I certainly don't remember which case it was.
not to mention the increasing trend of backside M.2 slots
this
That's a fucking render.
Every time I think about switching to closed loop watercoolers, I see something like this and immediately change my mind.
This only happens because people put tap water and no antifungal treatment in the water.
It's a CLC though
Expensive, loud, still prone to pump failure, not any better than air(may be worse.) If your clc fails, it's over for your computing, while air you can still use.
why the hell did the aio meme ever take off
here's hoping cryorig starts a trend with their copper shit
Aesthetics. "It looks clean" is a common answer to why people buy one.
Doesn't matter a fuck.
I was planning on using RV02B-EW case in my next build, and it seems like I've been reading some mixed reviews on which AIO can fit. D15 seems to still be holding it's own from what I see.
for those in the know. is there a better low profile cooler for a sff case than the scythe shuriken rev.B? socket1155 compatible.
Nope. The NH-D15 still shits on most CLCs whilst being much quieter. If you have room for it, there's nothing better.
DH 15 is a pretty much the optimal design.
The devices do actually exist.
Linus has review it (and was very impressed).
Noctua and be quiet make low pro
check out the reviews on SilentPCReview, they have a whole list of short heatsinks, the big shuriken is one of the best though
