Why are windows, macos, linux the only popular operating systems?

Why are windows, macos, linux the only popular operating systems?

Why doesn't someone make something new?

>not using temple os in 2017

>using templeos at all

because anytime someone else tries autists sperg out until it resembles macos/windows

Haiku

making a full fledged OS that can stand a chance against those is hard as fuck, user. terry davis looks smart despite his mental health and he took many years to make something barely usable. you should try making one by yourself.

>terry davis looks smart despite his mental health and he took many years to make something barely usable. you should try making one by yourself.

Why work alone when you can find like minded individuals to work with you?

literally no one is on his level

ChromeOS is massively more popular than Linux (yes, control your autism, they're not the same).

Wouldn't be surprised if ChromeOS was outselling OSX.

Because then people have to make software support it and they won't do that unless it has enough market share
But user, ChromeOS does use the Linux kernal

how are they not the same
its literally a gentoo fork

windows, mac os: historical propaganda since 80s
linux: a literal meme, shilled by gnu

>62796817
Idiot.

Making an operating system is hard as fuck on its own. making it usable and have software support is a whole other thing. Successfully pulling all that off means there's not a whole lot up there as the big competitors

...

>(Yes, control your autism, they're not the same)

Being factually wrong doesn't give you an excuse to call people autistic for correcting you.

where did the hand come from?

Below

Because there is no demand.

the world is not yet ready

To be fair, he probably could have developed something far more usable were it not for the fact that he's a lunatic building an OS to appease God.

the only reason he built it was because god told him to
he'd have 0 progress if he wasnt a nutjob

It is the same though. It uses the Linux kernel. What you meant was it's more popular than GNU which is not wrong.

>less than 1% share
>more popular than linux
It's also pushed by the schools, so calling it popular is just hilarious.

>Wouldn't be surprised if ChromeOS was outselling OSX.

yep, tim cook and rasheed confirmed it. apple on suicide watch as we speak.

Dumb alexposter

That word doesn't mean what you think it means

>Why doesn't someone make something new?

Basically it is too expensive for a company to make their own competitive OS and a open source OS would require insane free work.

Back when linus was making linux there was no free OS to be used by students so they got their shit together and worked they asses off to make linux what it is today.

>no free OS

what do you think they used to make the linux kernel in the first place? no OS at all?

and btw torvalds only wrote a small part of it, most of it (even the first release) was ghost-written by other people i.e. others wrote it but he took the credit

>cp
Linux in general.

Minix?

Then how do you explain {free, net, open}bsd and illumos? These are probably the most useable alternative operating systems

I think because an OS being popular makes it more popular. Simply because of better hardware support and more developers for that OS.

There's not much of a reason to start a new desktop OS. Way too much work and it'd be like swimming upstream for years till you got proper hardware support & people making a healthy software ecosystem for it.

Ancient code and the small userbase hide the slow development. At least the lack of development causes the lack of bugs too.

>kernal

kys

it's not just difficult to make the OS. it's terribly hard to get hardware manufacturers to write drivers for them. without that, an OS has little chance of surviving. see OS/2 and Solaris x86

...

People need software to do their daily work and for entertainment, so it seems.

But I do want to start using 9front simply to get used to it, it's practically CIA-nigger proof.

ChromeOS is Linux you tard.

implying anyone uses temple os. you can't even use the internet on it. not even terry davis uses it as his main os. he uses ubuntu

It's a fun environment for recreation programming and has potential for being a great real-time OS.
