All these time I've spent with KDE, GNOME and MATE just showed me how simple, functional and responsive you are. Maybe you're not the prettiest but you always do what I'm asking you to and don't make a fuss about it.
y u talking to xfce as if its a real humeann bean fucking nerd lmao
Landon Ortiz
xfce is the only DE that has a soul
Ethan Robinson
Xfce is solid. Lxde is also nice, but xfce is just better.
Jose Stewart
What was wrong with mate?
Parker Scott
Wow, it's an awful coincidence that I saw this thread in the catalog--I thought about making the same sort of post. I feel the exact same way. I just went back to XFCE after a long period of distro/DE hopping. It was the first DE I ever tried, and as such I tended to blame a lot of unrelated problems on it or whatever distro I was using at the time. I avoided it for a long time and tried out a bunch of different distros, wondering why in the fuck Sup Forums loved XFCE so much, before finally coming back to it and having a newfound appreciation for it. It really does justwerk.
Josiah Myers
Hi, glad to see you!
Carson Green
Watchu say bout me fagboy? I am by far the best desktop environment. I don't even have tearing if you use the right WM. kys gtk2 trash
Noah Scott
XFCE is still at the top.
My fucking god is KDE still shit. I thought after a decade it would be nice and fluid, can't believe it's still a mess.
Anthony Sanchez
>a decade Two actually. Today is KDE's 21st birthday. Say something nice about it.
Ayden Foster
What a bunch of faglords.
Christopher Campbell
You're not in xfce m8, you're on Sup Forums.

i'll shill xfce till the day I die but if a font is enough to break the fucking window manager, it needs work.

I'll get an update and become useful, r-right?

Welp, all the Xfce love in this thread, let me ask for opinions:
What distro + Xfce would anons say is the "best" combo? Looking here for 1) least conflicts, just werx and 2) relatively low resource requirements ... think in terms of a Phenom II 965 w/ 4 GB DDR3 RAM or roughly equivalent system.
I want to convert a few old boxes like this for general desktop applications, web surfing, email, youtube no games for several family members in the 50+ old range. They're reasonably computer literate, but more comfortable with WinXP-era desktops.
James Jones
does it still have horrible single pixel edge hitbox for resizing using the mouse cursor?
Jaxon Jones
Get Debian and do some minimal theming to make it look good/Windows-like. It will just work, it is stable and its repos are big, and its packages are still fresh as it was released this year.
Noah Kelly
>xfeces
Hudson Wright
Yep.

Check out Chalet OS, based on Xubuntu with Windows style theme:
feel similarly OP. xfce and unity are the easiest DEs to work with (as in, get shit done on). nothing else compares. started with xfce, stuck with it for 3 years, then tried out every other DE i could get my hands on because i wanted something a little more modern. settled on unity, but now that unity is kill i'll be moving back to xfce on the next LTS (via xubuntu of-course). xfeces is so fug'n comfy.
Blake Scott
Thank you, all. Was already leaning Debian, but Chalet looks interesting enough to spend some time in it & see if that's what I'm looking for. Already decided Xbuntu isn't near the top of my list, but if a few other options fail to work out, then it'll be a contender again.
David Phillips

You do know you can just move the task bar to the bottom with two clicks? No point to use a distro made by some shitlord from the balkans.
Zachary Ward
>2017 >still using DEs Learn how to compute properly plebs.
Jaxson Mitchell
Serves no purpose. It's not lightweight like Xfce and LXDE/LXQt, it's not different than GNOME 3, it has a worse set of tools than KDE and overall it's UX is worse than KDE/Xfce. It's redundant, like Cinnamon, Unity and Pantheon. If you want your GNOME to look old school then you can just tweak it.
Gtk is trash overall, and keeps getting worse. So, gtk2>gtk3.
On most themes, yes. And it sadly still has screen tearing in it's compositor. So installing Compton is a must. Those are the 2 only issues I can think of on this DE.
If you're gonna use an obscure distro, try Zorin instead of Chalet. At least it's popular enough and not maintained by a single person. Chalet looks beautiful but I've heard people having issues with it. Your best bet would be Xubuntu and installing a good looking theme yourself.
Also this. Xfce literally has all the options for customization in it's GUI which is why it's the easiest DE to use. It's not like GNOME based distros where you'd have to install addons or use the terminal all the time to get some basic functionality.
Sebastian Price
Why the fuck did they port MATE to gtk3 anyway? Horrible mistake.
Levi Jones
Reasonable opinion
Isaiah Flores
And why the fuck are they porting Xfce to GTK3? Why can't we have a stale, stable and beautiful GTK2 desktop?
Colton White
>And why the fuck are they porting Xfce to GTK3? They are? What the hell?

Is there a reason why Cinnamon isn't more popular on Sup Forums? Seems perfect to me with no issues, but I hardly ever see anyone mention it.

why do you newfags love bloat?
Carter Anderson
>porting Xfce to GTK3 Yeah, I don't understand this, too. Seems a waste of time.
Henry Bennett
>xfce >bloat There must be a limit to authism. i3 is okay but dwm is a borderline meme (as suckless themsleves). Also, I've found twms to be useless when I have an access to a mouse. On a laptop - it's fine.
Leo Brooks
OP, that image is fake news. Here is the real, un-edited screenshot.
Brandon James
I'm on the middle ground right now. Using XFCE with some keyboard shortcuts to place windows. That way, I can do lots of stuff without using the mouse
Connor Wilson
I can confirm, this is what my linux looks like
Carter Powell
It hurts, kindly delet, sir

I mainly use a DE to not use a mouse.

Do you press Tab a bunch, then?
