Ok, I'll take the bait

Ok, I'll take the bait.
Why is 4:3 better than 16:9?

16:9 is for spleen eyed chinks.
4:3 is for the hwite man.

Look at most any webpage
Notice how much space is unused to the left and right?
Thats about all there is to it

Your vision is 4:3, so if the screen is 4:3 you can see everything in focus which isn't the case for 16:9. That's the only real argument.

>Your vision is 4:3

>crtl +

4:3 is a more equal ratio than 16:9, which is good to promote social justice

As in what you focus on you dip

Maybe if you don't move your eyes,
When you do move your eyes your vision is very wide.
If you move your head it's also wide.

No, the real reason for 4:3 was that early CRT's could not be made any wider without using ridiculously big magnets.
Not that film is almost always wide, even though lenses are more efficient when using a square format.

sqrt(4):sqrt(3)

it's actually why i never have the browser take more than 60% of the screen.
so much wasted space.

sqrt(2):1 is objectively the best aspect ratio.

Thats why you have 2 browsers open on a screen you cant have that nicely on a 4:3 screen

4:3 is "good" because it corresponds more closely to 1:sqrt(2), which makes it good for reading manga.

Of course it would be better to just have an actual 1:sqrt(2) display.

>4:3 is "good" because it corresponds more closely to 1:sqrt(2)

You've never seen a sheet of A series paper have you?

Manufacturers started favoring 16:9 over 4:3 because they could sell you screens with less surface area for the same price.

>Not ((sqrt(5)+1)/2): 1

1.33, 1.41 and 1.78.

16:10 is patrician tier

16:9 is a movie ratio that was force fed to everyone.
it's useless for those who type things or read things on a computer.
It's useful if you edit photos and watch movies.

It's because of this my uneducated American friend.

Specifically it lets you easily make a 3 screen setup with one big horizontal and two half sized verticals.

18.5:9 is the best one.

Heh.

>16:9 is a movie ratio

I don't think any movies are shot at 16:9
It's a TV aspect ratio.
Movies are usually wider.

>it's useless for those who type things or read things on a computer.
People keep saying that but they never give an explanation.

>It's useful if you edit photos and watch movies.
Wouldn't 3:2 be more useful for photo editing?

closer to golden ratio

> le golden ratio meme
fuck off, plebian

Might as well just get a 16:8/2:1 if you really want a golden ratio

16:9 is better for peripheral view, so it's superior for most Sup Forumsames and film. 4:3 is better for reading and work.

Why was 4.3 even made to begin with?

Ask 1940's tv execs

Because effing vertical space. 16:9 is for movies.
To browse or any application, it lacks vertical space.

No movie is 16:9

You're right, but a wide screen movie fits a 16:9 screen with less wasted pixels. In a 4:3 screen, you either crop a lot or waste a lot of vertical space.
It's a compromise, I guess, and computer users paid the price. Now, to have a decent vertical space, you'll need high dpi, so you need a big ass screen.

they are both shit, call me when you plebs get a real aspect ratio

They film 16:9 and then crop it...
>Mfw actually bought an ultrawide to watch movies on

Also use SVP, so full screen and 48 fps movies are dope af.

lole

buzz out square eyes

wait the screenshot window is there fuck

i dont get it

the human eye can't see more than 4:3

What if I use two windows, split down the middle?

>now even less fits vertically

Reality renders at 4:3. You think you're better than existence itself?

SPIRAL OUT

>People keep saying that but they never give an explanation.
When you type or read, vertical space is usually more useful than horizontal, given the generally accepted optimum of 70 characters per line. For the vast majority of workflows, the extra screen horizontal space you get with even 16:10 goes unused.

How often do you really need to read two webpages at once?

KEEP
GOING

what

16:9 would be fine if sites weren't now being designed with mobile-friendliness as their main goal
It's a pain in the ass to read something that spans the whole screen at any zoom level

"square eyes" is a term used to describe someone who watches too much tv, at least back when tv's were 4:3 (where the picture is somewhat close to being square)

what i do for my main workspace is i have my browser on the right, and a couple of terminals on the left edge
i also use a right-justified vertical tab bar, so the actual web page space is approximately square
pic related

I'm not going to focus on the entire screen at once you mongoloid

But 16:9 is the product of two homo-multiples

because 7 8 9
