now excuse me for being retarded but can I connect my ps3 to the hdmi port in the back of my tower? since my monitor only has one hdmi port and my PC is currently connected to that.

The PS3 goes into the monitor, not the PC. If your monitor has only one HDMI input you need to swap the cables when switching from PC to PS3. A more elegant solution is to get an HDMI switch so you can leave all cables plugged and just selecting which device to display on the monitor.

no. It has HDMI OUT written on it for a reason. Look at TV tuner solutions for a way to do it.

There is no HDMI input on almost all PCs. You connect it to your monitor which is what has a HDMI in.
Get a $5 Chinese HDMI switch for easy toggling between ps3 and pc rather than unplugging cables constantly.
