Why does Sup Forums hate internet trying to earn a living?
more people use adblock --> the websites need mining crypto-coins to finance themselves. I think mining crypto-coins is legitimately good. I just installed Coinhive on my websites to get money, which allows to offer content for free to the visitors. A occasional 100% CPU peak? sure. No ads because crypto-coins? sure. Maybe Patreon or donation button?
>adblocking to use our service is wrong >by the way,we're going to use your entire computer :^)
Angel Morales
Ads are literal malware, shit's pretty unethical. Mining coins is great but I'm still going to block it and probly help everyone else block it.
Levi Flores
>Entire computer >Less processing power than is used to display Flash and media ads.
Benjamin Gomez
>sites need something wrong
Aiden Phillips
>I just installed Coinhive on my websites to get money
wew lad
Jordan Nguyen
I block those too. I don't want videos or shit like that; I want the few-KB of written words, not the 20MB of JS, video, images, and god knows what else they're loading me down with.
Their bills would be less just by not trying to put mountains of trash everywhere that I have to block anyway.
Julian Fisher
>using a dedicated addon instead of just blocking it with uBlock Origin
Sebastian Ross
I'd honestly rather have this than ads. At least this is just a single script that won't pull in random ads from a network, with some of them being possibly infected. Still shit though, nothing beats just giving me the option to buy something.
Oliver Gutierrez
>not just blocking it in hosts
Mason Phillips
Depends on the ad in my opinion. The thing is, most websites have annoying-ass video ads or audio ads. If an ad is capable of screaming into my ear, I'll use an adblocker, but if a website just has a few banner ads, I'll disable my blocker.
Josiah Turner
>unintentional hand meme
jej
Benjamin Fisher
It's literally a security risk, you HAVE to block that or you will inevitably get some malware popups. It's a bad methodology and needs to be shut down entirely.
Ryder Myers
>not just driving to OP's house and shooting him in the face
Brody Garcia
None of those people are trying to "earn a living", they are trying to accumulate as much jew gold as possible
Isaiah Robinson
Why does Sup Forums hate people that steal and rob from others?
They're just trying to survive...
David Lee
*blocks js miner* heh, nothing personnel kiddo
Julian Bailey
>Why does Sup Forums hate internet trying to earn a living? Get a real job, you bum.
Ian Mitchell
does ublock block that shit by default?
Elijah Flores
>allowing javascript on random websites asking for it
Jackson Wilson
your finances arent my responsibility your living comes out of my pocket if you use my process or and my electricity who's the leech, exactly? that would be you
William Stewart
>A occasional 100% CPU peak? sure. Bait
Juan Peterson
should be part of their blacklist already
Eli Hill
not just random 1st parties either, fucking 3rd party dependencies need to die.
Angel Morales
Just out of curiosity, how does Sup Forums propose that websites fund themselves?
Jackson Sanders
donations with a completely transparent budget
Matthew Roberts
not my problem desu if they can't do it without spying and spreading malware or by hijacking your cpu then they can fail for all I care
Jaxson Green
>Refuses to pay a waiter a tip because "your finances aren't my responsibility" >Refuses to pay school taxes because "your children's education isn't my responsibility" >Refuses to flush the toilet in a public bathroom because "your access to a non-disgusting toilet is not my responsibility"
Look, I don't like ads either but at least come with a good argument.
Jonathan Williams
that's not the right attitude. websites cant exist without support. all the websites you like will be gone.
Levi Adams
Sites should be hobbies. If you need funding, ask for donations. If you don't get them, maybe you should find a cheaper hobby till you find yourself in a better fiscal position.
Jayden Sanders
Would you rather have to subscribe to be able to access a website than to access a website freely and have to see advertisements?
Michael Martin
Don't worry, the free market will fix it.
Levi Nguyen
>websites fund themselves? literally fucking WAT
websites are run by companies. are you asking us to come up with a business plan for all categories of companies that could possibly benefit from running a web presence? (read: ALL companies ever)
Gavin Brown
By being transparent. Allow your users the ability to purposefully mine for you by setting a specific corner of your site just for mining of which they can leave a tab open and devote select resources. Allow your users to donate to fund server upkeep. And mine yourself. Get a part time job.
I mean really hundreds of ways.
Cameron Wright
im willing to pay and watch ads insofar as it supports the website, not to give you a cashcow
Eli Butler
>"Sites should be hobbies. If you need funding, ask for donations." How would websites like hotmail and gmail be able to operate as mere "hobbies"? Are you advocating for everyone to have to pay for an e-mail service per month? Or are you advocating that everyone have their own e-mail servers as a hobby?
Gabriel Bailey
By having sane advertisers that don't click jack, scream videos in your ear, use fake download buttons, use advertisers that actively distribute malware, redirect you in such a way you can't get back to your webpage, open a million tabs, need I go on?
Jack Long
I'm sure they'll manage
I'd rather just leave my adblock on if that's what your asking I do greenlist a handful of sites like this one right here but in general I really dgaf
Luke Evans
I pay my email service yearly. No ads. No data selling. No crypto miners.
Brayden Jones
>hotmail and gmail They already make money off mining your data. >Are you advocating for everyone to have to pay for an e-mail service per month? Well that's one option, or they could continue using the datamining ones.
Grayson Nelson
you should be thankful i'm posting on Sup Forums for free and not charging you for every post i make
i also have to eat you know???? don't you feel bad for not paying for my time????
Jacob Allen
>one of those things is not like the other
Julian Williams
Not all websites are run as extra content for a company. A lot of companies (especially web 2.0) exist entirely around websites.
Do you honestly think every single website is a mere blog? Getting a part-time job (or even a full time job) didn't work for Sup Forums when mootikins was in charge. Again, don't get me wrong, I don't like ads but this argument is pretty weak. The notion of donations being able to keep a website afloat obviously would not work for everyone. Sup Forums is barely able to keep up with costs with the combined efforts of Sup Forums pass and advertising.
I can't tell if you are serious or not.
Connor Lee
>have a website that hosts the solutions for my coding/web design/etc assignments from when I was in college >run a miner on it >tfw it makes me more money than my actual job I'm not sure if I'm happy it does well or upset my real job pays so little. I do other stuff on the side too anyway.
Dylan Ward
Are you suggesting that websites aren't allowed to be profitable? On what basis should websites not be allowed to be profitable? Is it because we have an intrinsic right to communicate and for information? If so, wouldn't it also be true that we have the right to potable water on the basis we need it to survive? Are you against the sale of bottled water?
Jack Hall
Sup Forums made money even when moot was a faggot reddit, much larger than Sup Forums, relied substantially on donations - even going so far as to integrating donations into some silly little 'gold for comment' process but sure, boo hoo Sup Forums is poor nipmoot is requred to install malware ads LMAO fucking retard
Sebastian Campbell
Here's someone who is actually being reasonable. I am not against advertisements so much as I am against horrible advertising practices on the web.
Evan Nelson
Since the pass was introduced Sup Forums has been doing fine moot said that the fappening legal nightmare would have ended the site any other time but because of the passes he could afford the lawyers to weather the storm
Joshua Cooper
>Are you suggesting that websites aren't allowed to be profitable? Of course not, they can still use the website to sell stuff.
Michael Long
Not even comparable. You are comparing apples to garden hoses.
Andrew Turner
It's in my self-interest to save as much money as possible. I don't care about your profits. If profit is all that's motivating you to make a website, odds are it will be low quality content any way since more of your effort is focused on the business side of it. tldr; fuck off and profit off normie sheep, not the recesses if the internet.
Ryan Wilson
Yes if you have to resort to deceptive and malicious advertising on your website to stay online and grow, you don't deserve to be online.
Grayson Harris
is this not a website, according to you do you think i have no need for money at all? should my time here not be rewarded? entertainment is a big industry, you know
Gavin Watson
Honestly, this is all fine under the condition that the website is completely transparent about it. Let the consumer decide to stay and enjoy the content produced, knowing that his electricity and resources are being used to mine and fund the site.
I personally will leave the website immediately, because no content produced on the internet is worth having this happen- but that's just my opinion. Everyone can come to their own conclusions.
Mason Brooks
>Sup Forums made money even when moot was a faggot Source?
Also, you do realize that Sup Forums is a controversial website that most advertisers wouldn't touch.... right? You also realize that quite a lot of people would not be willing to donate to Sup Forums because of two major factors: a. poverty, as indicated by use of Sup Forums b. being afraid that their bank would see them donating to a website that has had a serious problem with cp
Samuel Ortiz
I said >>Are you suggesting that websites aren't allowed to be profitable? then you said >Of course not, they can still use the website to sell stuff.
but before you said >im willing to pay and watch ads insofar as it supports the website, not to give you a cashcow
Hold on, pick one: are websites allowed to be profitable (i.e what a cashcow is) or are websites not allowed to be? You do see where the fault in your wording is, right?
Ayden Reyes
moot was a proud guy, he didn't like asking for donations and the one time he did he got a shit ton of money m8 and that was before the passes, Sup Forums isn't in any danger in the near future
Charles Diaz
Sup Forums doesn't use malicious/pornographic adverts because Sup Forums hates its users. Sup Forums uses them because normal advertisers refuse to touch Sup Forums. Is Sup Forums deserving of an online existence?
Levi Parker
>but before you said No I didn't, that was someone else. I'm just pointing out that there are other ways to make a profit than advertising.
Gabriel Sanders
Why'd you comment on a reply that wasn't directed at you, then? Or is this just damage control?
Nathan Sanchez
To point out that there are other ways to make a profit than advertising.
Camden Garcia
I have the real answer of how it should be, not "how Sup Forums proposes". Let me just preface it by saying that all these posters are idiots. The answer is that if the site doesn't generate a product or service that people are willing to pay for, then it has no reason of existing. You're not entitled to money for writing opinion pieces. You're not entitled to money for making information available. Shit, even if you start a legit business with a decent product, you're not even entitled to success. This latest generation wants to make mad dosh from online endeavors of all kinds, but that's not really how it works, grow up already and stop being faggots. Ironically enough, they're now making "porfit" in crypto coin, so I guess it's fake money for a fake business.
William Edwards
I live in countryside. My only internet comes from an UMTS/LTE modem.
Ads waste traffic without giving me any benefit. Also, they waste CPU cycles, that is, energy. Also, they distract.
A website that can only selfsustain with ads is already doomed.
Ryan Johnson
Guess what, you use their electricity and internet by using their site, if you don't want to pay their bills, don't use their site.
>Refuses to pay a waiter a tip because "your finances aren't my responsibility" Waiters need to be gassed. They agreed to a business model where their pay is essentially a gamble, yet they get upset when someone doesn't tip them.
Blake Roberts
This, we content creators n shiet
Easton Gonzalez
I had been responding to someone who was suggesting that websites should be hobbies and not "cashcows."
Brandon Roberts
>should my time here not be rewarded? No. Supply and demand. Your work here is worth nothing, entitled child.
Christian Martin
>Waiters need to be gassed. They agreed to a business model where their pay is essentially a gamble, yet they get upset when someone doesn't tip them. You do realize why waiters need to be tipped in the United States, don't you? The minimum wage does not apply to waiters and in order to even make minimum wage they have to receive 10 to 15% tips. If you don't like it, you can lobby Washington to mandate minimum wage for waiters as well. >They agreed to a business model where their pay is essentially a gamble I sincerely doubt anyone would be a waiter if they had a better option available to them. In terms of dignity and skill level, being a waiter is probably more dignified than being a prostitute. But sure, they deserve all the disrespect they've got coming to them because they have to work as a waiter.
Cameron Lee
Do you consider panhandling a profession?
Money isn't owed to you for simply existing and doing "stuff".
Elijah Williams
Sup Forums ads while clickbait is not the deceptive shit like fake download buttons/links or fake errors nor has it done shit that gets in the way of posting, I can simply ignore the ads and they won't bother me
Xavier Brooks
So maybe stop making laws to except them from other laws. Less laws is good and bad laws need to die.
Lincoln Allen
What are you even talking about? You were suggesting that we should be paying you personally for seeing your posts. The time you put into your posts, although -- I imagine -- is important, is not at all equivalent to running a website with thousands of users. This is what I was talking about when I mentioned comparing apples to garden hoses. You are comparing your shitposting to running a website from server costs to domain registration costs to management costs.
Samuel Bell
See it's different when people willingly give you money though.
Austin Peterson
>Tfw using noscript >That feel when you choose what script to run before browse the whole website
Jose Sullivan
Why are you talking to me about not making certain laws? You should be talking to Washington about it. I'm not your local representative.
Brody Flores
>If you don't like it, you can lobby Washington to mandate minimum wage for waiters as well. Or I can just keep on not tipping. Even without me giving them the additional two dollars they're still doing much better than say a burger flipper whose making the regular minimum wage without tips.
Jacob Ramirez
noscript breaks so many sites though
John Barnes
>not just blocking on router
Asher Bell
Once you unbreak them they stay unbroken though.
Nicholas Parker
>Also, you do realize that Sup Forums is a controversial website that most advertisers wouldn't touch.... right? here's that stupid shit that keeps getting repeated THEY DONT NEED ADS WHEN 1 SINGLE PASS BRINGS IN MORE MONEY THAN AN ENTIRE YEARS WORTH OF Sup Forums USE (especially considering Sup Forums's dem uses adblockers)
>Or I can just keep on not tipping. Even without me giving them the additional two dollars they're still doing much better than say a burger flipper whose making the regular minimum wage without tips. Waiters make considerably less than minimum wage, even with tips. But sure, they are better off than burger flippers because at least they don't have to deal with hot fry oil.
Ian Lopez
You can make a compromise just run some of the scripts Like who needs a fucking telling you to enable cookies anyways
Ryan Perry
This I doubt, considering the server load that Sup Forums gets. Sure, it's no Google with dozens of mammoth data-centers but I'm sure moot couldn't support it by stripping.
Isaac Taylor
Because they are trying to earn a living using my hardware. Fuck off with that shit
Hudson Johnson
>Waiters make considerably less than minimum wage, even with tips Everyone I know that's ever worked as a waiter has made more money than people working actual minimum wage jobs. Get into other tipping professions like delivery driver and you're making $12-15/h
David Murphy
I dont know how anyone can be too stupid to understand this stuff. The websites have domain names. You should recognize that maybe X.com shouldn't be running scripts from Spyonme.org.cn.
Daniel Brooks
*pop-up
Noah Edwards
Source?
William Murphy
i dont like fan noises so i wont run your meme miners
Jeremiah Diaz
Yeah, that's after getting tipped though. One of my friends worked as a driver for toppers and while he made bank, his actual wages were like $3/hour
Chase Peterson
it's just such a hassle for every site on the internet man uninstalling noscript was one of the best things I ever did for my sanity
Michael Howard
This.
Gavin Bell
>Yeah, that's after getting tipped though No fucking shit, that's my point, Getting under minimum wage + tips is better than getting minimum wage.
Aiden Phillips
I know they get paid less than minimum wage, but it's their fucking problem, so it's their responsibility to fix, and not my duty to feed them, I'm not a fucking charity.
Henry Sanchez
But that's assuming people tip. If they don't tip they get minimum wage
Justin Harris
Time to invest in monero? What are other browser altcoins?
Jacob Ramirez
install umatrix, its like noscript but presented in a way that makes sense also has more granular control
Kevin Mitchell
Bumming and stealing is a lousy way of making a living
Charles Foster
In America many people act like not tipping is a crime or something, they get tipped.
