this is a long shot but I fell for the USB MICROPHONES ARE EVIL meme and bought an interface/preamp just to use a XLR
now I can't seem to find a XLR that's >same price range >same quality/same polarity/same freq response as some USB mics out there, which would have cost me a fuck lot less but alas damage is done
Can I please get some suggestions? i know different mics work different for different voices but still would like some steering
>fairly big untreated room with some minor noise >using for solo voice >voice goes from higher pitch to medium >can't stand the annoying subtle higher tsssssss's of AT2020 piercing my ears >~100$ or less >condenser/cardioid

I also forgot to mention, I tried a Blue Yeti once and quite liked it.

What interface do you have? Also are you on windows or linux or mac?
Personally my setup has changed throughout the years: Starting: >Behringer Ultravoice xm8500 Pretty good mic actually. Its a dynamic mic but I think for voice that's actually a good thing. Very nice sound for many different things other than voice and is built like a tank. Plus it's inexpensive AF. >Line 6 UX1 Bought it many years ago to use for guitar and voice but mainly used for voice. The interface is pretty decent but the extra software is only good if you play instruments. Decent but wouldn't recommend as there are better options now.
Upgraded: >EV RE320 Another dynamic mic but this one sounds quite special I love that you can be further away and move around and the recording sounds like you never moved an inch. Very hot for a dynamic mic. Plus it's sexy AF with a built in wind screen. >Audient iD14 Very nice audio interface. I only used it for a bit when I used to use windows. now I'm exclusively linux. The recordings sound great, quality pre-amps, but playback is wonky as it only plays in surround sound.

I don't even use a USB interface anymore unless I need to make calls through skype or something.

You hate highs and you have an untreated room but you want a dynamic for your shitty high pitched voice. You do realize the most used broadcasting and some voice over mic is a dynamic audio technica bp40 for a reason
Jason Allen
she has good taste. md421 is where it's at for a dynamic mic

i liked this anime more than i expected

Y-you didn't have to be mean user. I know my voice is shitty.
I have a dynamic already and tried a few but I seriously don't like it as much.
I didn't say I hate highs. I hate certain highs. I can't explain, I really wish I could, I don't want muffled mics either but some microphones are extremely sensitive to higher frequencies and by higher I mean REALLY higher.
I really can't explain, I'm visualising an EQ in my mind and I wish I could show rather than explain. It's like the annoying sound that it produces when you up the ~20000Hz range, to me it pierces right into my ears and I can almost feel it in my throat. Not only that but it doesn't work well with certain consonants.
Sorry user, I'm autistic.
nice identifying skills man

getting real close to a dynamic mic and making use of the proximity effect will be a much better result in a shitty room than using a condenser. eq to taste and you can get really close to condenser performance (with an heil pr40, re20, md421/441 even easily on par) while blocking the most room influence

just sell your shit on ebay and buy a usb mic.

>streaming >streaming anime >streaming Hyouka You should be fucking ARRESTED.

I watched it after nyaa was taken out.

I've tried that. I literally ate my fucking microphones. But then you could also hear every single swallow and sound my mouth made even with 500 filters on.
Also if condensers are shit then why did the Yeti sound so good if not better in my room?
I don't know, maybe my room isn't as shit as I thought it is? It's pretty isolated and has no noise other than the very faint one of my cpu/gpu fan. No cars, no people, nothing.
I have considered that, but fuck, it's hard.
Logan Perry
I think the at2035 sounds pretty decent for a starting microphone.

Ending was a bit sad though

>I have considered that, but fuck, it's hard. well youre looking at spending about $100 to get a mic anyway, you can get amazing usb mics for under 100 in the first place. just use the money to buy the usb mic, and then sell the shit on ebay at a discount rate if you cant return it to the seller you bought it from. This way you get some money back and overall it will cost less to you. I like samson mics. usually I have to scream to be heard in a chat on any game console or computer microphone Ive ever had. Ive actually thrown my phone from the shit mic not picking up my voice, and hanging up on people because Im done repeating myself is a normal thing for me. I got a meteor mic from them and Ive actually stood in the next room over with the mic still in this room and had a conversation with someone online with it. Another bonus of usb is that you can take advantage of usb otg (aslong as you have a newer android dont have a samshit or applel) and you can plug the mic into your phone and use it for calls or whatever. I use it to on the phone now too, my grandma said she usually has to have the phone pressed to her ear and can still barely hear me, but with this mic she can actually take the phone away from her hear and still hear every word.

I have a Behringer C-1 and it's fine. Problem with condenser is they pick up too much room noise. I prefer a dynamic now.
Brayden Sanders
Get a pop filter and you need to fucking watch your constants since they cause the sibilance you hate. Also condensers especially cheap ones will accent the highs and mids. I've heard that the sputnik maudio is good and about your price range from an engineer at Lincoln center but they also have tits preamps
