This thread is for the discussion of the language, culture, travel, dairy life, etc. of Japan. Let's tark at randam in Japanese and English. Take it easy!
I've unironically learned some old Japanese. It comes in handy, even if you just want to read texts from the pre-war era. If you want to read really old stuff though, you need to learn kanbun, mate.
So that I can read historical texts. It also helps to give you a much better understanding of Japanese Grammar if you realize how certain structures evolved. It's as if you learn Latin and suddenly develop a better understaning for grammatical structures of other languages.

But it really depends on what you're using the language for.
Right now I just want to be able to read/translate comics, cartoons, and such. Maybe later I might want to move to Japan. I'll read the wikipedia page at least. ここに住んでいるモスレムの中には無礼な賢くい者が多いから苦手なんだ
