Windows 10 fall creators update

Are you excited for the new stuff coming out today?

Actually more excited for this week's news. All windows correspondents are hyping up news outside of FC. Which is weird because the surface event happens next week.

I've given up on windows. I'm on linux now.

disgusting shit, windows and mac fags should have their own board, reading this kind of threads cringes me out

then just filter your trigger words

You can just filter threads instead of shitting them up Ramesh. We get it, you've installed linux due to memes on Sup Forums, go post in some linux threads instead of desperately trying to rationalize that decision weeks later.

Nope, long time windows user who is Caucasian. You've gone down a path I can't follow.

dude you have issues. who hurt you?

is this the update with the more aesthetic file manager?

I just need better subsystem improvements and then I can drop the dualboot meme

Ballmer

It blows my mind to think that Microsoft are about to improve something that is borderline perfect. The best is about to get better!

I haven't heard a single exciting feature yet. Then again, nothing exciting has happened with OSs for a decade. It boots, runs my programs, and that should be it.

This, it's always more or less UI improvements.
Kids don't know what buttons are anymore.
I'm glad my son ask to press the button in the elevator.
I'm going to pull out the PS1 this week, and my gf copy of Frogger, and there is going to be a long talk.

Sorry, what we talking about again?

Nope. Sitting comfy with my ltsb

nice try bot

Will it default all the settings?

>The Linux command-line interface is currently supported on Windows 10 systems using Windows Subsystem for Linux technology, although it's at the beta test stage. Microsoft's shorthand name for it was "Bash on Windows," which was first supported with an Ubuntu Linux distro. Now, Microsoft is signaling that it will stop using the Bash on Windows phrase. It'll just be referred to as "Windows Subsystem for Linux," which now has support for multiple Linux distros, which get installed from the Windows Store.

>With the Windows 10 fall creators update release, Windows Subsystem for Linux becomes a "fully supported OS feature." It'll have its own checkbox to turn it on located under the Windows Features menu.

>The fall creators update of Windows 10 will support installing "Ubuntu, openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" distros from the Windows Store for use in the console. The Windows Store also will house "Fedora and other distros" in coming months, according to the announcement. Windows 10 users can run multiple distros simultaneously, too, without conflict, alongside Windows tools.

>Microsoft is also adding Windows Subsystem for Linux support to Windows Server, which was first announced back in August. It runs Linux binaries "natively," permitting Linux tools to be run on the server. Windows Subsystem for Linux is also available via Microsoft Azure Windows Server virtual machine images. The announcement included the reminder that Windows Subsystem for Linux is just for using Linux tools, and not for running workloads. The approach for workloads is to use local or hosted Linux.

Opinions?

>comfyfag

Linux is fucked, MS won.

I like their new UI style but I'll hold off on the update until they roll it out more, as is it just adds another layer of inconsistency to the UI.

It's fantastic, tards can scream "EEE" all they want.

>no functionality added for normal use
>only dumb shit, graphic, social, emoji, swype

Literally the only appealing feature added was the phone pairing feature and it looked laggy as fuck and like a huge attack vector. No thanks.

Nop.

You can get that UWP file explorer even without the Fall update, but it's kinda useless. It's unfinished, it lacks features.

I've already installed it.

LEAVE FILE MANAGER UNTAINTED, IT'S MY ONLY SANCTUARY

I want to uninstall Windows. But I'm too lazy to back up my shit, so I'm stuck on it.

Any good reason to leave Windows 7 for this one?

What new?

I have a Windows install only for casual gaymen: will this impact me at all.

"creators" a.k.a. "I live in my mother's basement in a comfy suburb and fuck around on ms paint because, hey, that 100 dollar windows 10 license I had to save my neetbux for months for isn't going to make use of itself"

why can't someone just upload the ISO after they convert it from the ESD?

What the fuck do they actually add in these updates? I've seen absolutely 0 fucking features, and I can't help but assume they are just updating their data mining software.

Give me some good features that are going to be added.

Captcha: mixte gassin

>trying to gatekeep gnu/linux
Why can't pooinloo's just stay the fuck away?

Why the fuck are they shoving tablet like garbage such as the microsoft store, the new start menu and touch bullshit? Don't they know most desktop users have mouses and keyboard and not that touch shit

I don't get it

...

>gatekeep
Could you stop using millennial faggot speak?

obvious microsoft shills ITT

No. I'll never let that abomination near any of my machines. I'll only use GNU/Linux on my computer with the exception of one old laptop running Windows 7 for one program. Fuck off, Pajeet. No one in their right mind wants your malware.

>Winshitters
>calling anyone else a dirty Indian

>borderline perfect
It's trash. I'd rather use no computer at all than be forced to use Windows 10. It's all of the worst aspects of Windows combined with the bloatware of a Samsung phone, that flat UI of Mac OS X, and the privacy invasion of the NSA. It has no redeeming qualities.

No. Never leave Windows 7. Once support is dropped and you no longer get security updates, switch to Linux or use 8.1 Embedded.

>I can't help but assume they are just updating their data mining software
Probably. All that I want is a stable and usable React OS with the Aero glass theme.

>I'd rather use no computer at all than be forced to use Windows 10

I refuse to use spyware made by Pajeets that comes with candy crush and minecraft pre-installed. It's almost as if their target audience is 12 year olds. It says everything I need to know about the users.

I haven't updated my OS for a long time. Should I?

Lots of things have been added but one thing in particular I have seen is GPU information to Task Manager.

In the Performance tab you will have your GPU listed and get similar information from it as your CPU.
In the Processes tab you will have a GPU column and get per process GPU utilization.

tell us how you really feel, user

whoop de fucking doo something that anyone who needs to watch already has a third party program

What are we supposed to be excited about?

Only change I'm looking for right now is tabs in Explorer. Is it finally in?

But now you don't need a third party program.

>Implying the NT kernel isn't half the reason we left.
Nope.
If Microsoft made a paid WINE implementation for *nix, I'd probably buy it though.

Nope, because I use Linux.

it's been sitting there saying downloading for an hour now. How about you put more info on what is actually happening like in queue for optimal download speed or whatever stupid shit you guys fucked making things worse.

>How do you spot a linux user?
They have told you by now
Will they offer an option to disable the botnet?

It's okay I guess, sadly the really interesting features got delayed.
Also, as long as you don't force it, MS will rollout the update quite slowly and in waves, so you don't have to piss yourselves. Also you don't need LTSB to avoid an update, how fucking tech illiterate do you have to be?

Of course not, the botnet is their new money maker selling the information they collect

I have Enterprise edition, how the f. to I update?

lol, spoken like a true winfag.

>hey let's talk about windows
>B-BBUT LINUX
how insecure can you be? we get it, you're using an obscure distro to feel special, but no one gives a shit and you're really out of place
your attention whoring is on par with drag queens and vegans at this point

Does it finally show temps? That's all I want.

Can the search tool find things yet?

I'll wait for a new LTSB update. Literally no reason to update now.

Ever met a college student communist/social justice warrior? They're a massive cancer on society. Some people have lived through or had family live through communist regimes which always are brutal and always have enormous death tolls/civil rights abuses and the morons will defend it like Che Guerra or however it's spelled helped save his country.

Downgrading to 10 Pro from ENT right now 80%.

www.kernel.org

Time to delete the dualboot partition

Probably. MS fixed stuff like Kracked a few weeks ago

Keep getting this shit when I try to update "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet." Anyone else getting the same thing?

How the fuck do I force the Fall Creators Update ?

...

Linux users are funny because they promote how they are different and then start insta-bitching when someone just casually says something about an operating system

wasn't there a patch that BSOD computers? I saw it in the news a couple of days ago

Not working for me

...

>operating system
LINUX ISN'T AN OPERATING SYSTEM.

IT'S GNU+LINUX.

fucking zealot losers, will never get Desktop experience

Its not live yet

Eh. If I need Linux tools, I'd install Linux without paying $1000 per copy.

Update isnt' live yet

calm the fuck down, gnu freetard

It was an issue with enterprise computers getting updates from the company's WSUS and a cumulative update from Microsoft at the same time causing a boot loop

It's the fault of IT kiddies who don't know what they're doing. Home users were unaffected

They said Oct. 17th.

I know that, I was showing them how to force the update for later.

>will never get Desktop experience
Seems like a desktop

the Linux zealot losers

That never meant at 12:01 midnight. It'll still be released today, just later today. They probably just want last minute checks to make sure everything is working fine.

there is a lot of the 17th left to go

k, will wait

>inb4 11:59

Microsoft has no vision

After giving up on aero, they go back following the guidelines of macos and the 'depth' meme of google's material design. When it comes to interfaces they really can't think by themselves.

That said, Windows 10 is still quite solid.

JOIN US NOW AND SHARE THE SOFTWARE, YOU'LL BE FREE HACKER, YOU'LL BE FREE

Microsoft literally kickstarted the whole flat UI trend

It's like 6am PST, Microsoft doesn't generally push patches till at least 10am.

I will never join the commie bullshit movement, BSD all the way.

So it's like with the overwhelming Desktop share?
>Never getting it

HOARDERS CAN MAKE PILES OF MONEY, THAT IS TRUE HACKER, THAT IS TRUE.

BUT THEY CAN NOT HELP THEIR NEIGHBOURS, THAT'S NOT GOOD HACKER, THAT'S NOT GOOD

...

So roughly 1 PM EST

the amount of retardation in this thread, geezes

Yeah, that's the earliest you'll see the stuff get put up.

ITS GNU+REDARDATION

They update in waves. Surface line is usually first to get updated (after the media creation tool). I think it took a month-ish for CU to fully roll out.
