Shenzhen vs New York City

Bracket

RIP old skyline of ny

Shenzhen, China

It's interesting how NYC had a better skyline in the 30's than most cities today, although it honestly hasn't changed much aside from the addition of a few mid-century boxes and modernist glass towers.

New York City

I'd say the 1WTC is a significant addition

>Shenzhen isn't getting rekt
really makes you think

Really does inspire some deep heed

...

pretty sure it will be blown out as soon as burgers come

...

rip Panama lad

That's Chicago, tbqhwy

...

they all look the same : ^ )

It's funny how American cities have stagnated with height recently while still constructing some amazing mid-height buildings. On one hand, Chicago has had the same tallest building since 1974, and it's likely that the original 1 WTC, also completed in the early 1970s, would still be the tallest in NYC, on the other hand, NYC has built such buildings as the Bank of America Tower and Chicago has built Aqua.

>European """""skylines"""""
But yeah, I can see how one could mistake them, especially in Black and White.

l voted for Shenzhen desu senpai

Probably, but it's done well overall.

US doesn't need to beat world records, Middle Eastern countries try to draw attention and investment by building extremely tall skyscrapers

Exactly, and we see where that got Dubai in the first round.

What's "done well overall"?

Shenzhen, you silly billy. Can't remember how it did last year, or if it even was in.

desu Dubai should have won the first round

...

I do like NYC but I voted Shenzen. New York is pretty incredible and the skyline is great but Shenzen has a really cool appeal to it idk why. Might be my favourite in China in 5 years

Agreed, but the mob has spoken.

There you go. Fucked by Chicago, and now it's beating NYC itself.

Why did Shenzen win with less votes

>New York is pretty incredible and the skyline is great but Shenzen has a really cool appeal to it idk why.
It's really cyberpunky.
>Might be my favourite in China in 5 years
It's my fav city in China for it's ridiculous growth, tech industry, relatively high(as for China) living standards, openness to foreigners etc but it's skyline is a dissapointment for me so far

Shenzhen isn't building densely, it's towers are being placed in apparently randumb locations, and quality is lackluster at the very least, Ping An the tower which was supposed to be the new symbol of the city it's cheaply made and simply bad looking

why do people only look at nighttime skyline pictures? the daytime is equally important, and daytime Shenzhen looks like absolute dogshit.

>currently at 50/50
Rather interesting. I wonder how many burgers are in the thread. Every one of the American flag replies except for the first one have been me so far.

62/72 against Chicago is a very good score, especially a year ago when most of the people here were American shills
because the poll was rigged, Shenzhen was winning then Taipei suddenly got more than 20 votes I did count it at first but then there was butthurt user spamming the battles who admitted he actually rigged Shenzhen vs Taipei, I was mad on him and I dq'd Taipei

it didn't fucking deserve to be anywhere anyway it had 1 fucking proper tower(though it's getting better - pic rel)

Some user was baiting in the thread about rigging with proxies, though other battles honestly seemed more rigged than that one t.b.h. But oh well, done is done.

Not even sure why someone would bother rigging exactly that battle either lmao

I'm always lurking these threads, and I occasionally post pictures of mid-sized US cities.

Yes daytime is important aswell but honestly when it comes to skylines nighttime looks are emphasized more as the skyscrapers usually look much more interesting due to all the lights

now that's just plain old ugly

Pretty comfy 2bh

(You)

ok, explain to me what the appeal is. How the fuck do you look at that shit and think "comfy"?

Wow haven't seen it with the new construction like that.

Taipei 101 is maybe my favourite skyscraper but yeh its nothing to HK.

Not all bad :)

because I was supporting mainland Chinese cities and he was extremely butthurt about it

NYC vs HK was rigged even more desu

What makes it ugly?

It's a relatively-dense cluster of buildings that are bundled together, almost like a Miniature version of Manhattan, which is accentuated by the two rivers surrounding them, with such smallnes being what's comfy. I especially like the tower with the little turrets on it, One PPG Place, and the BNY Mellon Center (the brown one).

>almost like a Miniature version of Manhattan
have you ever actually seen Manhattan?

just a better version of this imo
Actually maybe I'll take back what I say about Shenzen, I'll give it a few years..

it looks comfy you bush. thats a nice fountain anyways

What cities are cool to just walk around endlessly and get lost in?

Because nighttime is literally when skyscrapers become the shining beacons of our society. The neon and lights are like modern ornaments that only become visible at dusk, differentiating them from your average buildings. They're proof of how the city never sleeps, and that my lad, is beautiful.

TL;DR, it's cool fuck off

Something about Chinese cities freak me the fuck out, well the tower blocks mainly. HK's are weird as-well. Chinese cities are better viewed at night for that reason alone i feel.

Hopefully I won't have to work there ever.

It's 1 fugly addition for sure.

...

Yes, and this is a very tiny version of it; it also has the charm of being a middle-sized city, skyscraper worthy but also not ginormous like NYC, Chicago, or the Chinese cities.

You probably want to stick to generally safe cities and countries for this. Places like London or Paris can get shitty quick for example.

Any Asian Mega city: Tokyo/Seoul/HK/Taipei/Osaka etc will do you well.

Toyko is undoubtedly the best for new/old, quiet/busy, urban/park, clean and safe and a good city spread of things though.

>They're proof of how the city never sleeps, and that my lad, is beautiful.
are you fucking gay?

Tokyo is the obvious answer. A city as diverse as it is endless, or so they say.

upvoted

ask your mum lmao

>Places like London or Paris can get shitty quick for example.
Literally what? I live here and I love walking around

As long as you avoid the shit areas here, you're fine
This is a lovely place to explore

Are Chinese cities safe?

we're all gay here

post something you consider beautiful

>As long as you avoid the shit areas here
that's the problem

in Tokyo you don't need to avoid anything, as a foreigner even Yakuza won't touch you

rip Shenzhen

...

...

>in Tokyo you don't need to avoid anything, as a foreigner even Yakuza won't touch you

Massive exaggeration

...

Shenzen is 14-16.

That's awesome for a city that was nonexistent in 1980.

for sure there are no shariah zones in Tokyo

...

Hello hello, I'm here for Shenzhen. I'll post OC again as usual. So bummed I was only there for a night, even the airport is the most aesthetic i've ever been to.

Chinese cities are safe, at least for foreigners. Felt safer there than in London (someone actually broke into my house and stole my old tablet, fortunately I hadn't left my camera at home and took my tablet instead of my laptop).

...

...

There are DELET zones though.

wow it's 50:50 again

Go Shenzhen!

Very safe for regular Chinese and foreigners.
No gun culture, no blacks/Muslims/gypsies, harsh penalties for crime, low testosterone people.
Only thing you need to worry about is petty stuff like pick pocketing or people trying to befriend you for English practice.

...

...

...

...

...

...

I mean, just avoid the poor areas.

China is a poor country and the patriarchal traditions still prevail even though the CCP tries to fight them.

Cities are safe because China has the Hukou system that restricts poor migrant flow.

The countryside is quite safe, but don't go alone or bring a local friend if you aren't a strong guy.
