Seriously stupid: I offered an X200s from eBay. It comes with a single 2GB SoDimm. Can I stick a 4GB stick? Will I have any problems with having nonequal RAM sticks?
Jayden Lopez
Since it got no answer, I'm reposting my thread-starter from the last /SQT/
Can anyone help me deduce how to stop getting this pop-up? It shows up at seemingly random intervals and occasionally gets in the way of shit I'm in the middle of doing. pic related: the pop-up in question, and the text that comes up when I click "Details."
Aiden Price
If it has a 64-bit processor and operating system, there will be no problems.
If the processor is 64-bit and the operating system is 32-bit, you won't be able to use all 6GB.
If both are 32-bit, you won't be able to use more than 4GB, and there may be problems with just using a single stick.
I think the X200s had 32-bit processors, so you're SOL. Stick to two 2GB sticks if that's the case.
They have Core 2 Duos, right? I've forgotten a lot about what I know about ThinkPads.

A couple of simple questions.
1) Where and/or how can I pirate Windows Vista, preferably 64 bit? I know Windows 7 has rendered Vista worthless, and 7 is already on it's way out, but I still would like to have it so that I can refurbish my laptop and other old computers.
2) Where can I get long but thin zip ties? Preferably black, as I have to mount the fans on the case through the holes, and if I use multiple zip ties it will leave sharp edges on the outside. I figure if I use a few long ones, I can leave the sharp edges inside the case so that I don't cut myself moving them. The length of the zip ties should be around 500mm, as the one fan is a 140mm fan and I'd need more than 280mm to loop around it since it's about an inch thick.

I was thinking of getting a 144hz monitor instead of a gsync moniotr (overpriced) and wanted o ask some questions
will I only get screen tearing if I go over 144 fps? and would fast sync work better with a 144 monitor?
Alexander Howard
Just a get a meme linux distro

>dude linux lmao
if i was gonna use linux i wouldn't have asked for vista, would I?
Owen Peterson
might as well go with xp then

So I'm installing gentoo At this part in the handbook I've gotten the stage 3 tarball unpacked and I'm editing make.conf for cflags and makeopts. There's a lot of other shit in make.conf, and I found a site that has an example make.comf for my x200 (vminko.org/gentoo_manuals/thinkpad_x200)
The handbook doesn't say to do anything else with make.conf. Is it implied that I should try to figure it all out now or should I just get makeopts and basic c/cxxflags and move on and edit make.conf later as I use it?
That website has a lot of useflags and some other stuff that I'm worried about not putting in.
Jonathan Ramirez
Just use velcro straps instead of zip ties, retard.
You can use DigitalRiver or whoever they're called for the installation .isos, and KMSpico for the key.
it just werks
faggot
Andrew Richardson
SL9400 Core 2 Duo, which is 64 bit. I'm going to install Debian or Mint the day I get it, so the OS shouldn't be a problem.
I was worried about the motherboard itself not recognising more than 4GB, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the help!
Hudson Ortiz
Velcro's a good idea, but too big for the space it's going to be sitting inside.

I'm at my parents' house and I randomly can't connect to the internet using certain applications, whether it's Skype, or a Python script, or whatever. Meanwhile other things, like web browsing work. I have a feeling some router setting must be messed up, because I've had an issue in the past, where it randomly wouldn't let me connect my phone to the internet. I think back then it was a problem with the DHCP settings. But back then it was my entire phone that couldn't connect, now it's just certain applications. Any ideas why?
John Morgan
It's kino I'm saving but ok
I'm new to that. Rec a good tut online?

You're welcome, user.
Can always use Amazon, then.
From their website.
I forgot which one it is. Good luck.
Raid 1+0 and a backup.
Asher Foster
>Rec a good tut online? not really, i just learned as i went. use software raid if possible, it's cheaper (compared to hardware raid) and more flexible (compared to hardware and fake/mobo raid) with the only downside being that it uses your cpu, which doesn't matter these days, since the load is minimal on modern cpus

I've had this happen twice now in the past 2 days, once on Sup Forums and now on the 4plebs archive.
My GPU can't be failing already after only a year can it? Or is it the driver that's the problem?
The P51 seems like suuuuper overkill and is more expensive but I just want to make sure that this machine will handle my needs for a long time. I can afford it right now but I don't want to waste money if the ASUS can easily handle everything I need.

I need smartphone advice.
I usually pay absolutely no attention to smartphone trends, but I’ve finally decided that my old Motorola needs to be replaced for software reasons (It’s still vulnerable to stagefright). I carry a DSLR so I don't care about cameras, I don’t even play games on it very often, the most intensive thing I do is stream from my Plex server. So basically, what ~£300 smartphone has a good screen, but won’t melt under moderate load? Willing to increase budget if it’s justified, like I said, I have no idea.
Attached is an Arnold with lewd in it as a pre-emptive reward (if you can find it).
My understanding is that screen tearing is a problem that occurs when your GPU refreshes during a monitor refresh, so it would make sense that it becomes a larger problem the higher you push your FPS beyond your monitor's refresh rate.
Blake Mitchell
also unhide system files, you're probably at least not counting pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys, both can be quite large if you have a lot of ram
Jack Bell
show the protected os files
Jonathan Baker
Run disk cleanup (with system files), use windirstat, enable compression if you feel like it
Jackson Rodriguez
Holy shit after defraging I have even less space, wtf.
Bingo, those files are taking 28GB, and I have 16GB or RAM so I guess it makes sense
So if I disable virtual memory I would recover that lost space or am I retarded?
Kayden Ross
After creators update 1440p resolution is gone. I can do 2160p at 60hz but I can't do 1440p unless I set it as a custom resolution What the fuck is going on?
Evan Scott
just set the pagefile to 16MB or however small it can get
Ian Scott
I just disabled virtual memory and hibernation, that deleted both files and now I have 32GB available.
Thanks
Owen Clark
>So if I disable virtual memory I would recover that lost space or am I retarded? you can lower the page file, or disable it probably better to just make it smaller, like 1GB you can disable hibernate to get rid of hiberfil.sys entirely, by running "powercfg -h off" in an administrative cmd, if you don't use hibernate, it doesn't affect anything

My junior college offers an AAS in Computer Information Systems. The advisors told me that it was the equivalent of a CCNA or CompTIA Network+ etc. certification except with college credit.
But I also really want to get a bachelor's degree. Even if I'm not too interested in coding, is it still better to just major in CS instead of taking the CIS associates?

I have a Raspberry Pi that I don't use. Is there a way to mine cryptocurrency or some shit with it or does it need to be more powerful for that?

what do people use $1000+ macbooks for if theyre only dual cores
Brandon Rogers
hyperthreading
Adrian Watson
why did you buy a pi without knowing what to do with it... and nah its not powerful enough for that, I'd maybe connect miners to the pi for a dedicated mining computer, but you would need dedicated mining hardware. I'd try to make a mini laptop or media station if I had a pi, but thats nothing remotely new or interesting

Man, prices are brutal these days. A year ago I got a 1060 for the same price as that 1050. You're asking a lot of a 50 tier card to keep up for 5 years. That said, the thinkpad you listed comes with a workstation card, so it should be much worse for gaming.
On the other specs the asus is fine.

Any of you guys work with business analysts? I'm considering that path for to start my post-college career. I've programmed a little bit before (matlab, sql), and I'm very adept at learning it. All of my work experience so far is pretty broad business functions (operations, accounting) on a small business scale. I know enough that I can talk with an IT department about IT/Programming about based solutions, but I don't have the programming skills to actually contribute code.

7700k or Ryzen for gaymen? If ryzen which one?
Mason Johnson

What the flying fuck
Robert Young
It is external HDD. It always gets hot for me after some time. What about sectors warnings, should I start thinking about changing the drive?
Dominic Williams
you want to use the .ccd file if possible basically; .ccd = CloneCD image metadata .cue = cuesheet metadata (more commonly supported, likely there as a fallback) .img = the actual cd sectors .sub = the subchannel data, the .cue will not reference this, so if the subchannel data is important (often it is not), then you need to use the .ccd
Mason Butler
Is there any KRACK tool in Kali Weekly?

Intel for single threaded performance, Ryzen if you do more than game.
Ryzen closes the STP gap a bit and its socket has a future. Pure gaming/budget build? 1200 or 1400 (4C/4T and 4C/8T respectively) and OC on a B350 or X370 chipset. 1600 (ignore 1600X) for best price/perf ratio and multitasking with 6C/12T. 1700 (8C/16T ignore 1700X) for the best Ryzen has to offer, OC to reach 1800/1800X performance. Really good for PS3 emulation.
Most come with a decent stock cooler, even for OCing.

I was gonna post in that thread but I figured my question was stupid enough to not bother them. So if I want to stream should I go Ryzen?

Whenever I go to look at any other tab in a file's properties window, a notification saying COM surrogate pops up and tells me it is not working. Anybody know what the fuck this shit is? I've been trying to find some fixes but nothing has worked so far. Thanks
Camden Fisher
Generally yes. The 1600 and higher provide a lot of overhead most games won't tread on until they properly scale to so many cores and threads.
The alternative would be a 7th gen i7 4C8T or an 8th gen i5 6C6T or i7 6C12T (but good luck finding them and enjoy the housefire).

How can I protect my internet traffic from being sniffed in a local network? Will VPN do to encrypt the traffic or is there any chance it remains encrypted until leaving the router?

It'll be encrypted. At most they'll be able to tell what kind of traffic you're sending, relative filesizes and times. Actual contents are safe. Don't use PPTP though.
Michael Thomas
just use https everywhere

what do you guys use to mask a textbox in asp net? I tried puting a mask on jquery, but i doesn't let me remove the mask on submit at all.
Austin Thompson
7700k or better 8700k so you dont get fucked. Ryzen if you are poor.
Both are good CPUs, Ryzen has some problems with emulation thanks to the lack of single core/thread performance tho. In everything else they are the same.
