Raspberry pi???

Hi, I'm a newfag to this, so please don't judge me

i just got myself a raspberry pi and i have no clue what to do with it. any ideas?

>buys something
>has not clue what to do with it.

Seems about right.

yep... i was told it could run linux, so i wanted to do something with that

This has to be bait.
It's the typical episode.

its not. i have proof... im just asking for ideas

This is how Raspberry Pifags actually computer

it's just a computer with a bunch of exposed GPIO pins
you can use like a regular computer, or you can use it more like an overkill microcontroller

Easy on the use of the word fag OK?

>not being proud to be a [insertshithere]fag

pi-hole
openvpn
file server
mail server
printserver

so fucking do that then you idiot. jesus christ. did you really buy a childrens computer for no reason?

Its not for children.

it's basically a modern Acorn machine, it's meant to be an educational machine
of course, that doesn't mean it can only be used by children

Wrong.

It's convenient to permanently connect to your TV for light web browsing and PDF viewing. It cannot handle anything else whatsoever.

>"The Raspberry Pi is a series of small single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to promote the teaching of basic computer science in schools and in developing countries."

also, the rpi is;
- british
- arm-based
- has a port of RISC OS, the OS used on Acorn machines
all just like Acorn machines

use it as a pc to browse /diy

you're an actual faggot that deserves to be skullfucked to death.

I use mine for nvidia moonlight. works great for streaming content from my computer that my chromecast couldn't handle for whatever reason. Also nice for pihole. Highly suggest pihole.

Honestly why buy a pi when you can buy a much better PC like a used Optiplex for $70-$100?

get the orange pi plus instead

for some things, even a pi is overkill, like a networked plant pH level monitor

Streaming box.

Mqtt server you can connect all your Arduino's and related MCUs to.

Write a forex bot and leave it running somewhere.

Why are there so many of your kind?
>OH WOW! A 45€ mini computer! Let's buy this and never once use it because it's hard to do stuff on your own
I'll be a kind user though, some projects that might be interesting:
>Download Server for Animu and Stuff
>NAS so you can access your files from every device in your network (samba share)
(Both combined make an awesome setup, you can manage your downloads easily using jDownloader even when on the go and stream them directly from the Pi)
>Living room media player
>Retro game emulation machine
>Hosting a website and learning to manage a server
>Mailserver
>Block ads on all devices in your network via Pi-Hole
>A pledora of greative DIY project, the limit is your imagination

One of it's main purpose is teaching children abour computers. Just look at the preinstalled programms on Raspbian full (Scratch, Minecraft)

Most, if not all, of the Pi alternatives lack in either driver or software support.

What are you interested in?

What other electronics do you have?
Do you want to do hardware hacking?
Do you have the tools to do so?

If you andswered no to the three immediately above, well, you just have a really small computer.

Though you could always use it to learn ARM assembly language.

Go elsewhere censorfag

Make a farm bot. Seriously, look it up.

Grow some fucking balls.

I’ll bet that you’re not even gay. Just a prissy little SNAG.

...then install Raspbian?

It'd take more resources and time than it would be worth doing. But i had thought it'd be kinda fun to roll out a barebones linux distro or something and try and build a game that specifically targets the Pi's hardware.

Can you plug an external cpu and psu into that?
What about a gpu?

Sure.

Why would you want to?

>farm bot
how much do the parts cost? i already got a garden but the effort needed is pretty low already, just a 5 shower at dusk at most.

to mine shitcoins with leftover cpus/gpus
So you are saying I can plug a xeon into that?
I was told you can't do it

If you can use soldering iron, are good with hardware, have the tools, and don’t mind writing the drivers, you can do almost anything.

But that’s serious: “because I wanted to do it” territory. It’s not at all practical.

I'm good with my hardware

Why the GPIO output it's only 3.3V?
Shits don't work with digital logic, can't even power up relays
