Why is life suffering as a trackball user these days?
Logitech went as chink as possible, Elecom is made for dwarfs, and besides that there is nothing.
My first Logitech Trackman Wheel lasted 5 years 10h+/day, the second one only 2 years and the M570 needed new switches after one year (actually not new, i took the ones from the first trackman wheel).
Now even the plastic parts of the 570 start falling apart.
Why is there no love for balls?
Trackballs
They just came out with the MX Ergo, wtf you talking bout.
Just buy another one cheap ass faggot
Looks like its gonna fall apart pretty fast. And i dont really see any reason for it to be over 100€.
But well, i'm waiting for more reviews on that one regarding the durability.
Is it that uncommon that you want a trackball that lasts longer than one year?
Yes it is wrong. If I expect my $1000 phone only to last one year why should you expect your $100 mouse to?
This is the era we are in. Look at all your electronic devices that don't belong in a kitchen. You shouldn't expect any of them to last at the maximum past warranty.
logitech literally just answered your prayers OP
I like the trackballs too but I think its retarded paying $100 for the newest version when the only substantial difference is bluetooth vs a 2.4ghz dongle
doesn't really justify costing 4-5 times as much
the mx Ergo is pretty cool in that it can tilt but I think thats just a gimmick
I've always had good luck with electronics.
The only reason I would expect a limited life from an electronic gadget is if it has a built in rechargeable batteria
>why is life suffer
because nobody uses trackballs anymore except autists.
What about keyboards, headphones, monitors, PC components? Even in different price ranges, nowhere i've witnessed a lifetime that short.
I used some mice as well, same problem here. But there are much more alternatives.
Its 2k17, there should be enough autists to be a relevant target group.
There are, that's why they charge up the anus for trackballs.
God this thread fucking sucks. Trackballs are a niche market. Maybe someday it will take over hen everyones hand/arm hurts from using a mouse.
But why not have all the options? Except a mouse, they give you carpel tunnel.
resting your wrists gives you carpel tunnel
trackballs give you rsi
scooting a traditional mouse across a desk feel barbaric in comparison
But I switch between the trackpoint, trackpad and trackball depending on the task throughout the day.
What's wrong with CST?
ok
Ergo trackballs are god tier for wrist pains.
>Yes it is wrong. If I expect my $1000 phone only to last one year why should you expect your $100 mouse to?
Because I'm not a retard like you who overpays for things that I know is going to break?
You can waste your money however you want, moron. Doesn't mean that I or anyone else is going to throw away money because some faggot on the internet wastes his money. You gonna jump off a cliff because you saw someone else do it? You probably should given how fucking stupid your post was.
Buy the best trackball on the market and call it a day.
Seems a good time to point out that my elecom thumb trackball has lasted a good 3 years now. Though I did swap its ball for a Logitech blue one.
Seconded.
I have this one, too, and am very happy with it. The rest is detachable, BTW, so using it is optional.
Picked this up used for $1 a couple months ago.
This.
I've used it for monitoring multiple security cams.
Also for spreadsheets and managing google earth with GPS.
I don't expect to use one for stuff like FPS obviously but it dominates for over the top(birds eye view) games.
Also it can be used by left/right handed people.
definately a steal.
generic two button mice are more expensive.
>If I expect my $1000 phone only to last one year
WTF!!! I paid $65 for my phone used on ebay a couple years ago and I expect it to last a LOT longer!
Mark pls
My laptop is 6 years old. I just replaced the original battery and expect it to keep going.
It is honourable to build a quality product. The quality of your work speaks to your character.
fucking hipster
>hipster
>using trackpoint
shoo shoo macfag
This was the best mouse ever. None of that filthy thumb ball shit. Trackballs are better because you are not jerking off your desk but thumb balls are the fucking devil. One digit will get tired. This bad boy you use your index and your middle fingers.
Planned Obsolence, search it on fulltext index.
t. thumblet
I've used this for the past few years and I'm happy with it
I've got 2 M57's, one for home and one for work. The one at work is newer and the scroll wheel button is giving trouble. I love the mouse but it should last much longer than that
So sleek.
Sexy for sure.
I'm more of a fan of thumb style instead of index but I can respect a fellow trackball users opinion.
There's enough room for both of us.
Most people who have a Slimblade seem to love it.
It's kind of pricey, though (IIRC, it was around $100 when I was in the market a couple of years ago). That and the fact that it takes up a bit more desk space than the Expert led me to go with the latter instead (what I really need a is a tenkeyless KB).
No scroll wheel?
You turn the ball like a dial to scroll. It works really well and I liked it more than the wheels/rings.
Slimblade or expert?
Logitech Trackman T-BB13 user reporting.
That was the other thing that put me off the Slimblade. If I could have tried it out, I might have liked it, but didn't want to commit to a novel mechanism like that without testing it out first.
I have to say, the ring on my Expert works great now, but it did have a fairly long break-in period before it really was smooth.
wtb finger trackball that's tilted sideways
>M570
Personally I'm not a fan of using the thumb to move the mouse. But the m570 comes with a scroll wheel. I have been using the scrollwheel-less marblemouse for over 15 years now. I like it. You can program the buttons+ball to emulate scrolling, but I place a regular mouse (w/scrollwheel) next to my mouse. Not a perfect solution but it works for me. Marblemouse is about $30 (USD), I have never used the more expensive ones.
I only tried the scroll ring on the orbit and didn't like it because it was too fast and imprecise. I haven't tried the expert's but imagine it's higher quality.
Love my track ball. The logitec is the best one but wish they made it a bit flatter. Hands hurt after long gaming sessions.
Surprised me too. Guess there are still some good deals at Goodwill, definitely not like 10+ years ago though.
>You turn the ball like a dial to scroll. It works really well and I liked it more than the wheels/rings.
That's really fucking cool
Yeah, the software has a pretty good range of speed adjustment, and inertial scrolling can be toggled on or off (even with it on, you can stop it dead by a brief direction change).
Out of the box, it didn't always turn smoothly, but the roughness in it wore off after a few months.
I owned the expert, orbit and slimblade. I still own the slimblade the other two got sold. I would take the slimblade's scroll over the other two any day.
Got two of these from the other thread, I hope they work as good as they look.
Clearly superior technologies
Been the same since they bought the moulds from a company in the late 80s.
I use it every day famalams
M570's are pretty famous for having shit build quality. I love my Kensington Orbit with Scroll Ring. Honestly after trying both finger and thumb balls I find fingerballs to be better.
>Kensington Expert, $125
is this a normal price? never bought trackball before
M570 has terrible build quality. Kensington and elecom generally have better build quality.
I have a kensington orbit and I can play FPS games just fine. I think I'm actually more accurate with it than a mouse.
Those are expensive and honestly they don't seem worth it. Especially since the scroll wheel is super hard to reach.
The expert is higher end so it costs more. If you want something less expensive you could get the orbit with scroll ring, similar to the expert but only two buttons.
That does look pretty sexy
Wired or wireless?
That seems high even for the wireless model, though.
MSRP for the Expert is $90, but I think I got mine for somewhere around $75-80. Slimblade (which is wired-only) and Expert Wireless are both MSRP $100.
There's a ton of industrial uses of trackballs, surely there are plenty of rugged industrial-grade ones that you trackball hipsters can use too.
>le everything not mainstream makes you a hipster maymay
Ebin
Don't knock Elecom before you try.
The XT1 was better than the M570 in every way, EXCEPT the scroll wheel was shite.
The XT3 is unbelievable, scroll wheel now up there with the best scroll wheels I've used, trackball is super smooth. Going on two weeks since I've got it and haven't needed to clean contacts yet.
still using this bad boy all these years later
I think the general complaint about elecoms is that they're made for tiny asian hands.
muh nigger
had mine since battlefield 1942 was a new release
On trackballs without a dedicated scroll wheel or ring how do you handle scrolling up and down?
No problems here with my superior Western ham fists
Using the M570 ball though. Tracks very slightly better (
Page Up/Down
I switched from a Magic Trackpad, I now keep it next to my trackball for scrolling and gestures.
>wireless
dropped
By turning the ball into a scroll wheel on command or by using middle click autoscroll if it's supported by the software.
>hen everyones hand/arm hurts from using a mouse.
>now everyones fingers hurt
why? the battery lasts for months apparently
Allegedly plugging it in for 1 minute gives 24 hours of battery life. They mastered high polling rate wireless devices years ago, now they're doing quick charge. Wireless really isn't a drawback at all.
It's not just about comfort, but also about saving space on your desk as well.
can you disable the trackpads on these without also disabling the trackpoints?
Then Logitech make Logical Wireless Trackman then the 2nd edition and scrapped them now they sell at high price.
I use the CST at work and the Kensington Expert at home and the CST is better in every way. With pic related grip the scroll wheel works better than the Expert.
I tried the new Big Ball Elcom but gave it to a co-worker and went back to the CST
>"Quaid...start...the re-reactor...Open your miiiind"
amazon.com
Have been using this for eight months or so. Perfection for what I paid for it (it used to be $25 or $30.)
>erekomu
heh
I'm tempted to buy one of the Elecoms. Which one would you recommend and do they work on Linux?
not him but with most modern phones, something is bound to fail after a year. It's a shame repairability is going away because phones are now just getting good enough to last for a very long time, even as operating systems progress
>with pic related
>finger doesn't properly reach said scroll wheel
Middle finger is comfortably resting on right side of wheel. To each their own, I've used the Expert mouse just as much and still use it at home, but if I did any serious work at home I would buy another CST without a second thought.
The trackball I want:
nsi-be.com
Can't find a retailer who stocks them
Ordered this recently because of the tilt wheel and well placed additional buttons and really like it. I've got pretty big hands and it fits just fine.
>Middle finger is comfortably resting on right side of wheel
You'd make a good fisherman.
Why don't you try industrial/disability trackballs? You can get used Traxsys ones for cheap. They have a nice looking joystick too but I don't know where to get one.
>do they work on Linux
Looks like DT2 and thumballs have been patched in, but the DT2 is made for nihongoloid hands.
I've got one of these. Its pretty nice, but I've got some tracking accuracy issues with it so its shelved at the moment. I heard that replacing the marble with one of those red patterned ones makes them wonderful though.
That has been my experience as well. The grey balls that come default with the elecom trackballs are fucking trash, good thing they take balls from either the m570 or trackman wheel, and work wonderfully after that.
They made an Elecom Huge just for people with large hands, you know?
You sure can.
thumb or finger trackball for casual gaming ?(fps, rts, ...)
Finger trackballs like the big Kensington ones posted ITT give you a lot of speed and control.
How about CST trackballs, I'm close to getting one of these ?
>CST trackballs
Can't say I've ever used but, but I was more referring to the style than the brand. The big radius ball, being able to control it with more than one finger, having the ability to "throw" it around. They're really fast input devices and once you get used to it they're super accurate.
