Objectively false.

That's the mythical date according to the ancient Greeks.

But actual archaeology tells a different story.

The city was founded around 800 bc by Phoenicians, so 2800 years ago.

Sad to see that I know more about your city than you do.

> for the founding of Gadir (Cádiz), in the second millennium B.C., and the archaeological evidence for its founding in the eighth century B.C., is seen firmly from the archaeologists' camp...

So yeah, eight century, even earlier than I remeber, the fact that it's the oldest city in the Western Mediterranean is a meme spread by Ancient Greeks

There are similar myths about my hometown too, but archaeology reveals a similar date to that of Cadiz (eight century bc), and it was also founded by Phoenicians, it's a recurring meme for Ancient Greeks to do this apparently.

Some experts say it may have been a phoenician settlement, but there are no evidences of it. There are roman ruins so it is confirmed to have been a roman settlement, which makes it at least 1500 years old. The exact date is unknown.

Oshkosh, WI settled in 1853

Technically founded around the first century as a Roman fort, but it didn't really start to resemble what it is today at all until the 1700 and 1800s.

Founded in1858, but back then it was mostly farmland.
