rsync

thanks, that looks like something I was looking for.
Their site is really bad at explaining itself, though.
It always amazes me how bad at marketing open source projects are.

Owncloud on orangepi.

I don't care about botnet

I currently use Google Drive.
But I'm thinking about switching to Dropbox because after so many years the Google Drive sync client on Windows is buggy (literally just had to restart it because it was using tons of CPU for no fucking reason), and Windows 10 is fucking shit in general so I'm thinking of switching to Ubuntu, and for that I would def have to use Dropbox anyway.

i don't have anything to hide in the first place anyways

you are new here, aren't you?

It really isn't. What distribution are you using? I can help you through the setup process if you want

Eventually I plan to remove all personal content from the cloud and to develop my own NAS. My main obstacle is money. My family already has a network storage server but it is not accessible outside of the network.

Thank you!
Pretty sure that I can setup everything myself - the documentation is clear enough. The marketing text itself is bad though. They throw a bunch of words like decentralized, encrypted, etc. etc. Without really telling how this thing work.

either google drive or dropbox

Why is being a botnet a concern for you? Just upload it encrypted, you can't trust anybody with your personal data, even if it's not believed to be a botnet.

seafile

If I use rsync, won't I have to have enough local storage for all my data?

I use Cuckbox because I'm too lazy to switch to ownCloud
