I'm looking for not too heavy text editor(or IDE) for html/css/php/JS etc. I was using Atom, but it's too heavy. I'm poorfag, so I can't use sublime text. Which text editor would be good for me Sup Forums?

VS Code
Welcome the church of Emacs into your life my son.
I'm using linux arch
I heard about a great war between vim and Emacs. Why I should use Emacs instead of Vim? Will it take long to learn it?
You want CSS live editing from console, saves you so much time
Netbeans.

Learn emacs if love hitting the Ctrl / alt button and want to become a true Linux neck beard. Use vim if ya like the idea of a modular editor that is powerful at text manipulation and that can be found on every Linux server ya work with.
Otherwise just use sublime like normal people and don't worry about paying for it.
VS Code has Linux support. However, with that being said, the person who recommended it is retarded because it's almost identical to Atom. If you thought Atom was too heavy, you will feel the same about VS Code. Vim is about the only editor I can think of that might satisfy your requirement for a lighter (but still competent) editor. That is what I use for most things. However, I don't personally find it to be great for front end web dev languages.
>OP complains that Atom is too heavy
>Oh hey, let's recommend him another editor which is just as heavy, nearly identical to Atom in every way, but also proprietary
Fucking retard
VS Code also has integrated and non-removable Twitter bullshit.
When I log into my Xenix system with my 110 baud teletype, both vi
*and* Emacs are just too damn slow. They print useless messages like,
'C-h for help' and '"foo" File is read only'. So I use the editor
that doesn't waste my VALUABLE time.
Ed, man! !man ed
ED(1) UNIX Programmer's Manual ED(1)
NAME
ed - text editor
SYNOPSIS
ed [ - ] [ -x ] [ name ]
DESCRIPTION
Ed is the standard text editor.
---
Computer Scientists love ed, not just because it comes first
alphabetically, but because it's the standard. Everyone else loves ed
because it's ED!
"Ed is the standard text editor."
And ed doesn't waste space on my Timex Sinclair. Just look:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 24 Oct 29 1929 /bin/ed
-rwxr-xr-t 4 root 1310720 Jan 1 1970 /usr/ucb/vi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 5.89824e37 Oct 22 1990 /usr/bin/emacs
Of course, on the system *I* administrate, vi is symlinked to ed.
Emacs has been replaced by a shell script which 1) Generates a syslog
message at level LOG_EMERG; 2) reduces the user's disk quota by 100K;
and 3) RUNS ED!!!!!!
"Ed is the standard text editor."
Let's look at a typical novice's session with the mighty ed:
golem> ed
?
help
?
?
?
quit
?
exit
?
bye
?
hello?
?
eat flaming death
?
^C
?
^C
?
^D
?
---
Note the consistent user interface and error reportage. Ed is
generous enough to flag errors, yet prudent enough not to overwhelm
the novice with verbosity.
"Ed is the standard text editor."
Ed, the greatest WYGIWYG editor of all.
ED IS THE TRUE PATH TO NIRVANA! ED HAS BEEN THE CHOICE OF EDUCATED
AND IGNORANT ALIKE FOR CENTURIES! ED WILL NOT CORRUPT YOUR PRECIOUS
BODILY FLUIDS!! ED IS THE STANDARD TEXT EDITOR! ED MAKES THE SUN
SHINE AND THE BIRDS SING AND THE GRASS GREEN!!
When I use an editor, I don't want eight extra KILOBYTES of worthless
help screens and cursor positioning code! I just want an EDitor!!
Not a "viitor". Not a "emacsitor". Those aren't even WORDS!!!! ED!
ED! ED IS THE STANDARD!!!
TEXT EDITOR.
>he cant crack sublime text using the leaked twitter license
When IBM, in its ever-present omnipotence, needed to base their
"edlin" on a UNIX standard, did they mimic vi? No. Emacs? Surely
you jest. They chose the most karmic editor of all. The standard.
Ed is for those who can *remember* what they are working on. If you
are an idiot, you should use Emacs. If you are an Emacs, you should
not be vi. If you use ED, you are on THE PATH TO REDEMPTION. THE
SO-CALLED "VISUAL" EDITORS HAVE BEEN PLACED HERE BY ED TO TEMPT THE
FAITHLESS. DO NOT GIVE IN!!! THE MIGHTY ED HAS SPOKEN!!!
Two words:
Vim.
PHPStorm you wont look back
Do it
>poorfag
read the OP
>text editor(or IDE) for html/css/php/JS
why would you need a text editor for this?
wtf i love ed now
Despite also being built on web tech shit, vs code actually has far better performance than atom pretty much as a rule. It's good shit.
Emacs cannot even follow hardlinks
trash software
literal garbage
Just use vim
This. If Vim is too heavy wagecuck in fast food for a while to afford a computer good enough to run Vim. Should only take a couple of days
I think you mean IDE
i use brackets.
its simple
Use the CIA sublime license
Brackets seemes like a good alternative. May be available to compile as a tar.
Geany is good. More intuitive than Emacs and similar to but less visually impressive than Atom. Just as free.
You can get sublime for free with the nsa license snowden leaked a while ago
Hello I just tried writing a simple 100 line program in c++ in vim and I feel super slow. Like does it get faster? I feel like I'm typing at 30 wpm. With sublime or atom I can type at my full type speed of 80. I don't know why just feel like a brainlet
why do you feel slow? because you don't have autocompletion or because you're having trouble navigating the file?
all
try all 3 of these
vim github.com
ne github.com
micro github.com
use the one you like the most
ah, there are plugins for vim that provide some autocompletion functionality, but if you're really used to good autocomplete vim might not be so good for you. i personally really like vim bc i always write careful code with it bc i'm not relying on autocomplete.
as for navigation - you'll get ridiculously confident with navigating files and as commit more commands you'll get really fast. i also recommend that you find some plugins that make your life easier. i recommend tagbar, it really helps to navigate through large files.
gonna sleep now, but good luck on your vim journey
* as you commit more commands to memory
sorry rly tired rn
yea I'll keep at, it's nice not having to use my trackpad
sublime has infinite free trial plus its only $75
vim
It throws an error when you try to use it, has for quite awhile.
t. someone that wanted to take that meme editor for a spin a few weeks ago.
Geany
VSCode is pretty GOAT.
Tried vim, not fan of the "Do everything without a mouse" meme. I gotta move my mouse anyway when testing the page in my browser or changing music, I might aswell use it for my editor.
It takes 3 seconds to boot up which is decent for a electron application. And it doesn't really matter to me if vim only uses 0.5% cpu while vscode uses 3%, I don't have a 2001 Thinkpad where I have to worry about that kind of stuff.
Don't fall for the vim meme and get with the times.
>Learn emacs if love hitting the Ctrl / alt button
Spacemacs is love.
>all the power of Emacs
>without the RSI-inducing default keybinds
Yeah if you're not ready to jump into vim or emacs go with geany
now this is an old one but i think you will find it useful.
its system requirements are
0gb ram
0ghz
0gb storage
10ml ink or graphite equivalent
PROS
> no system requirements
> no system
> light weight and portable
> render code on the fastest machine alive the one that wrote the code the brain
> files auto save up on writing
> works when power goes out
> can transfer to friends with out wifi or usb
> can be easy to distrabute
CONS
> not water proof, drop in water and your fucked
> pen sold separate
> no auto correct
>may not be able to erase code once written
Bases on these pros and cons i have to rate this text editor 9.3/10 because of its high versitility and long tesm use since it was created well over 100 years ago and has with stud the test of time
Kate.
>implying sublime text is as heavy as electron bloatstorm
Just use sublime. It's a free trial that doesn't run out. Obviously pay if you can but for now use it as is.
this
Notepad++, you purity nigger
Spacemacs
