Is it the best vpn for private home use?

What do you use, or are vpns really even needed?

I'm still using PIA. Is this any better?

vpn is useless unless you live in a police state like usa

>vpn is useless unless you live in a police state like usa
So I should be good in the UK then?

no, they don't even let you to use knives

>are vpns really even needed?
Depends. Is your ISP blocking shit? If so, then yes. Otherwise, no.

You think VPN's are "safe" i.e. they protect you? You're essentially saying: I don't want my ISP to see what I'm doing, but I'll trust this company to see it instead. Yeah, sure, they said they don't keep logs, and all that shit you want to hear, but you can't verify this, it's impossible.

Literally anyone on Sup Forums can make a VPN, claim all that good shit, and sell your data/send it to .gov if illegal activities. It's been done before.

UK is even worse.

nord is as slow as fuck i get 700mbits with pia nord is like 35mbits

>UK is even worse.
/s

Not OP but
Maybe it's just safer to use ddl and other means instead?

I only DDL behind a proxy.

I disagree. I think it's kinda like the duckduckgo and Google situation. Yeah you don't know they're not taking your data, but would you rather use the service that claims to protect your privacy, and may or may not actually do that, or the one that is 100% guaranteed to be fucking you in the ass?

Don't know, but I use it.

My ISP stopped sending me harassing messages for torrenting now that I use it, that's pretty much all I care about.

May depend on connection, but if I get a good server i can normally get about 30mbits on a Torrent with Nordvpn.

google takes your info and keeps it safe, ddg's owner is literally a dataminer

You should look at country of the company that's providing services. This should be the first thing that determines your choice.

>google takes your info and keeps it safe

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Fuck off redditshit I never want to see you post here again. Go crawl back to whatever shithole you came from you worthless fuck

I have a cisco 1900 router with vpn, can I use a service like nord and configure the router as the endpoint? Would be convenient to let the router determine what traffic should go over the vpn with an access list

Looks like nord vpn is us based.

What are some other good ones? How come some shithole eastern eruopean country doesnt have some vpn providers setup?

PIA has DNS leaks, careful man. I haven't experienced any with NordVPN though.
I use NordVPN, its pretty sweet. Their pricing is really good. Lots of options for locations and servers dedicated to P2P or IP masking.

My post was aimed at people who *think* using a VPN gives them a green pass to go do illegal shit. But honestly, VPNs are just sketchy af. Anyone can make one, and claim anything they want, because it can't be verified.

Likewise DDG, etc. can be doing the same shit, I agree.

I'm not saying all VPNs are evil, though. There's definitely some out there that are great.

I thought it was based in panama?

Also, that gives some other VPNs

If you want to post to Sup Forums, don't. Nord is all banned. Unless you have a pass thing.

I'm not going to tell you what is best, because they are all "judgement calls" at the end of the day, but you need to stay away from "eyes", and islamic countries for the most part. If a company has nexus within a country whose laws requires them to fuck you over then assume that they will in order to legally remain a business.

Just remember, using a VPN is just ..
"Good luck, I'm behind 1 proxy"

It's hiding what you are doing from your internet provider and Hollywood lawyers fishing for people to threaten with lawsuits.
That's about it.

pia is too popular and shills too much for me to trust it. Feels like a honeypot. I have zero evidence of course but I'm also max tinfoil.

VPN providers don't send you DMCA letters when you torrent, but an ISP will. And for that reason, VPN is essential torrent equipment.

According to the OpenVPN CA certificate they are based in Panama.

I use this, works great for me so I'd give it a go if you want to try one

I host my own with openvpn on a vps I rent monthly.

AirVPN is the service (((they))) don't want you to know about. I looked at top 20 lists last month and never once was it mentioned. the shills want it to be an absolute fucking obscurity.

you can use it with TOR and it isn't that expensive.

Have you even heard of prism?

>pia has dns leaks
You too dumb to fix this yourself? It's literally just a line in the .ovpn file

Or, if you want to hide from copyright fucks who send letters.

I’m a different person but I’m too dumb can you help me

block-outside-dns

Put that pupper in your ovpn config file.

Also, look into putting dnscrypt on your router.

It protects against everyone that isn't government.

It actually is though. They are just as bad as US because they are in the Five Eyes Program but they also block you from doing stuff such as porn.

...

They are based in lithuania, servers in switzerland i believe

semi related, anybody notice how the vpn in opera disappeared?

Possibly a result of legal action.

It's still in Opera Developer Edition.
Maybe you got the plain vanilla Opera.
