>no free market
>government dont give a fuck
>???

Haven't you heard? The free market doesn't do anything and it's literally the devil.

I'm on BT Fibre, 51Mb/s, about to get upgraded to 72 so can't complain.

Talktalk are absolute wank though, how they've got customers is beyond me.

There is free market in the UK, what are you retards talking about? The problem is that the UK has huge areas of very sparse populations who also would like high speed internet, not everyone lives in fucking london. The cost to install the infrastructure for these places is enormously prohibitive and seeing as the telecomms were privatised the government has no fucking say over it, it is entirely down to the free market that the UK has shit internet. It doesn't pay to provide high speed so you don't get high speed, that's exactly how the free market works.

I pay 33 pounds every month for 3mb/s download. Seriously the UK is a fucking meme.

I pay £30 a month for unlimited 72 down 25 up, TalkTalk, West Wales.

Is that you PewDiePie?

22 brintbong notes a month is nothing, come to burgerland for the worst internet

>There is free market in the UK, what are you retards talking about? The problem is that the UK has huge areas of very sparse populations who also would like high speed internet, not everyone lives in fucking london. The cost to install the infrastructure for these places is enormously prohibitive

That sounds like the situation with the US. People like to claim that the US has one the "slowest internet speed in the world" but that's because of our flyover states where there's low population densities of people located in huge landmasses.

The average speeds of US states with high population densities like east coast states beat many european countries.

>come to burgerland for the worst internet
200/35mbps for $80 a month is good enough for me.

I pay £13.25 a month for Virgin Media 50MB broadband solo (no line rental) and I get the full speed 24/7 with 6ms ping. I'm on a special loyalty discount that lasts until they fix the intermittent "packet loss" (me waving a neodymium magnet over the coaxial cable every now and then).

80 down, 20 up, £30 a month. It's not the same as the package i was on before i moved flat with virgin (200 down, 50 up?, £24 grandfathered from an old ntl contract)

>The cost to install the infrastructure for these places is enormously prohibitive and seeing as the telecomms were privatised the government has no fucking say over it

Despite the fact that the government gave BT 2 billion to do just that and they pissed it up a wall?

At least I got a nice dividend from my BT Group shareholding

...

>the fastest in the US is faster than the average of european countries
no shit. you're comparing a state to a whole country.

dunno what ur talking about m8

just kidding, at my parents' house the best you can get is 30Mb, but only if you're lucky and for only £20 more than pic related!

>80/20 for £5 a month
>is also one of the few ISPs not subscribed to that shitty pirate blocklist
You have no idea how many knickers I've soaked by showing them unproxied TPB lads
Only downside is torrents are throttled to fuck, good thing VPNs are cheap

lets face it Britbro, by now UK is consideres as 3. World

mostly dumb poor fags who get suckered with "ONLY £2*" deals, forgetting the extra charges and line rental.

BT have been required to upgraded the entire network for the last 10 years. Most small villages can get 72mb fiber to cabinet but it costs shit loads as only BT will provide it

>"Fiber"
>51mbps

I pay $70 a month for 10Gbps down and up through Fibrant.

Though, there aren't any routers than can push it, and the modem they gave me looks like some sort of alien egg.

which ISP?

Llanelli here, 72 down and roughly 20 up, £50 but with TV and other random shit I don't use.

I would say but I don't want the feds shutting it down, it's a 3 letter energy company.

>Llanelli
Meet me by bar luna pal I'll bash your fucking head in (mostly for paying that much when I'm and also in Llanelli)

Do you feel like meeting later for some drinks then bud? Come down to Masons?

Damn, son.

I pay $45 a month for 10Gbps.

The modem they gave me is alright, it's like a $5 modem directly from China.

>3/4th of a megabit
I wish my internet was that fast.
I am paying 30€/month for 220 kbit/s down.
Internet in germany is jsut like in a 3rd world country

Britcucks think FTTN with ADSL from the node is proper fibre lol

Sure thing, I'll be the guy wearing the user mask.

jk I'm pretty much an alcoholic hermit sorry, I know a lot of people from here who come to Sup Forums though so good chances I know you already, did you go to bryngwyn by any chance?

I'm on Virgin, 200mb/s (I just tested and Im getting roughly 180 atm) for I think £30. Thats not a bad deal at all

Ahh righto, yeah I did.. What a shithole. Yeah I'd be more surprised if we didn't know each other.. I am on /o/ more than here though.. Sup Forums is shit these days.

Fiber means lower response time, not higher bandwidth. Copper coax can still transfer unimaginable amounts of data, it's just slow response.

FTTP here, £38/month for 100/100

>Thinks the UK is bad
>Overlooks Australia

My $100 a month, unstable 6mbps going strong.. assuming it doesn't drop out.

True that, had some fun there but that place was a mess lel, heard it's even worse now.

Not really sure if anyone I know lurks on /o/... you mostly go to Masons then is it? Me and my mates usually went to Lemon, but I really haven't been out in a while though, maybe next time I'll try Masons instead.

You're understanding of bandwidth is pretty poor, if you have a faster connection then you have more bandwidth as you're able to transfer more data in a shorter period of time. Greg off Packet Pushers explains the concept pretty well here:

youtu.be/HcpZJLYB9Ns

>Be russian
>My commieblock is connected to literally 5 or 6 different ISPs
>They all keep calling me every other week like "Hello, we cut our prices wanna switch to us? We have a supper offering"

Yeah I hardly even went to school, didn't stop me from doing what I wanted though. Lemon Tree is it? Been there a few times, didn't get on with the landlord kek. I used to go out there and all places really, including bar luna but just for the sake of it because it shut late.

I don't bother going anymore mate, it's all the same old shit and I can't do hangovers and pissing off people no more.

Damn....
Not in uk
Don't know this pre-uneu part

>Yeah I hardly even went to school, didn't stop me from doing what I wanted though.
Ah nice man, same mostly heh, haven't really gone much further than finishing a few IT courses yet though, probably move to Swansea or something soon since there's fuck all IT jobs here.

>Lemon Tree is it?
Yup, not a bad place but yeah the landlord can be a bit of a prick, pretty comfy atmosphere there compared to other places though IMO.

>I don't bother going anymore mate
Same really, most of my mates are still going out every single Friday and I'm just thinking what's the point, just end up wasting money getting pissed and then waking up rough the next day, with literally nothing special happening. Fuck it'd be easier to just get drunk on Skype or something instead.

What field of IT are you looking to move in to? There's a fair few companies in Swansea that are usually looking for Sysadmin roles, not bad pay and benefits too.

You sound a lot like me, I'd go out and pull out way too much cash and be lucky to wake up with £20 in my wallet lol, easy to get carried away even there's fuck all in this town. To be honest it's much better just spending that time doing something productive anyway.. Just need to get my ass to a gym and work on some Cisco certs.

>Sky
>DSL
>40/10
>Sky TV package included
>£10 p/m (With family discount and the missus cancelling when contract up for more discount)
Its ok I guess

100/100Mbps, ~40€/month

Hmm I'll have to look into those, I could probably do sysadmin easy really, maybe need to pick up on my Linux a bit though.
2bh my dream job would be a kind of mixed coding/reverse-engineering thing though, worked on a lot on different open source RE-related projects, pretty much became a sort of hobby, but there's probably not much chance of finding any jobs like that in Wales though.
Finding a coding job without the RE part probably wouldn't be that hard, but idk about how much I'd enjoy that though.

>Just need to get my ass to a gym and work on some Cisco certs.
Ha damn we really are too alike lel, I actually wanted to do exactly the same not long ago, even had my tutor in college trying to push me into getting some Cisco certs, kinda wish I did, Cisco would probably be pretty easy, but getting /fit/ on the other hand...

>Sky
Enjoy your home address being given out to copyright trolls based on them simply having your (dynamic) IP address.
Got a letter last year telling me I downloaded some shitty 90s preggo porn that I never heard of, told them to fuck off and haven't heard anything since, then I found out it was Sky who gave them my address, changed to SSE pretty quick and been happy ever since.
Maybe if I actually watched telly it'd be different, but I never really liked british TV much anyway so meh

...

forgot to say, 80 down 20 up

>americaps

>chinkshit modem
>10 fucking gigabits per second
Since when are 10gigabit ISPs a thing?

Currently living in an industrial town in the north of England, the exchange for the whole town is a stones throw from my back garden yet because of the retarded way the cables are run I get a maximum of 20Mbps down. Paying £30 for that, line rental and a pretty shit TV service.

desu I think the only reason we get it was to watch GoT when its on, plus cheap.

Also using them for DNS is fucking gay since they block a lot of download sites, but that's what VPNs are for

You could just cross the pond, you know?

Your gov requires ISPs to store everything you do on the net. The slower the connections the less ISPs need to invest in new storage for your possible thought crimes

> UK has huge areas of very sparse populations
Ha..HAHAHAHAHA
The ISPs are just cheap cunts.
I mean the UK can fit 2 times into California alone.
They probably suffer the "not so free market" issue where monopoly's are forming and they fight tooth and nail to keep anyone else from showing up...... Like here In California.
Comcast keeps fucking with google fiber.

It is easy, just watch out for companies that try drag you in to a support role too because that is shit. Hopefully you'll find something that suits you well, don't settle but getting the experience is important obviously.

Yep, Cisco is the standard in the UK so if you can get your CCNA you're better qualified that 90% of the competition then the rest comes down to experience but you'll have to want to do it or it might be a waste. A lot of companies use MS infrastructure and Linux may be running for their storage controllers etc but in my experience I've never had to work with Linux much, MS own the market share when it comes to corporations.

I'm always on and off with /fit/ness lol, after work I just want to chill out!

>Finland
>100mb/s is free
>200mb/s is 9.99 and 300mb/s is 19.99

Feels good man

It's possible that the state has the same population

...

why is Fingolia so based?

Their people are used to spread their ass wide

Cable costs what £30 per 100 meters, IF digged by hand? Its £30 for 200-300m if the soil is cooperative as well.
Thats fuck all.
It really is.
And its even less for bigger distances, because you can splerg out for proper power tools, and dig kilometers by kilometers each fucking day.

If you can move one cart across the river, a day, you move one cart.
If you can move 10 carts across the river, you still only have one cart of response, but you can do 10 a day, so its a lot faster.
So decreasing ping, increases bandwidth a lot, assuming you measure against the actual backbone of the Internet, and not just your LAN.

Also of note is that Finland is far more sparsely populated than these two 3rd world countries and their bad excuses are:
>The problem is that the UK has huge areas of very sparse populations t.
>b-but that's because of our flyover states where there's low population densities of people located in huge landmasses. t.

user I think there's a slight difference between the government making internet connection a basic human right and private companies not wanting to invest in infrastructure for certain areas if they believe it won't be profitable enough to make it worthwhile.

Loads of homes have access to fibre services m80.

I think there was some industry estimate of 75% by 2019 or something.

You don't even need to dig for miles, underground cables are put in solid-wall tubes with connection points spaced out.

You can replace them section-by-section, without breaking any ground except to access the connections, or make new connections.

Can confirm
>be polish
>eu-wide corpo ISP, 2 country wide ISPs, 1 local ISP in my Brezhnevbrick
Corpos can't compete in quality with local one and I'm paying peanuts for 50/10

Use a shit ISP, get a shit service.

I get the speed I actually pay for, 24/7 phone support, an actual fucking SLA, and a static IPv4.

Also, I have the option to pay annually and get a month for free.

Virgin, TalkTalk et al will lie to you and tell you that you can totally get 200mb/s on wire that can't support it - A lot of smaller ISPs will actually bother to check and tell you what you're actually likely to get.

Also
>talktalk
Enjoy your scam calls and leaked PII, mate.

This is pretty much exactly what we pay for so yeah, its alright.

It's a strange situation over here. Basically Virgin Media is the only decent internet provider, I'm on 200mb for about 40 a month. Every other internet provider, bar none, is absolute wank (talktalk is in a whole other league of shit though). However for whatever reason virgin media only has a modest market share when by rights they should practically have a monopoly. I blame normies.

Blame the fact new residential areas don't get a Virgin Media cable laid down by default before it's built, like they get a phone line. BT & co have a big advantage right there by being readily available before the new residents even move in. Most people stick to what just works and doesn't bother them too much.

Poland here
180/80 for 22 USD

NZfag here. Government is installing fibre for free to the majority of the population. Gigabit connections are usually available as well.

USA has absolute shit internet though. Precisely because telecoms are literally a state-backed oligopoly. And even 3rd world countries have already caught up.

I get 300kb/s for $50 a month. Fuck this town.

> Australia
> paying nearly 80USD a month
> 4mbps/ down, 0.5mbps/ up
NBN comes
> 8mbps /down, 1mbps up

someone kill me right now

>200/35mbps for $80 a month is good enough for me.
It's $299 a month for residential 10gb/s in burgerland, so yea good speeds are available if people are willing to pay for them..

>The problem is that the UK has huge areas of very sparse populations
are you fucking retarded?

>USA has absolute shit internet though
Ugh. My local rates under a local monopoly are 300mbps down/ 30mbps up, are $80 a month for cable, Fiber is 1gbs for $119. 1tb a month total, or unlimited for $50 more a month, $299 a month for 10gb/s. I think it's pretty shit, but my town is in under a monopoly. Is internet really better outside of the US, really I want to know?

i know that feel, when i visit the parents ranch innawoodz theres no internet lines so i use my phone hotspot with 3GB cap and 1.5 cents per MB after that, and its basically 56k speeds and i have to prop the phone up high on something or else the signal drops off

How can a "developed country" like the US have such an awful, awful crime rate?

The best internet comes when you country hits 100% muslim

>How can a "developed country" like the US have such an awful, awful crime rate?
The answer would be deemed racist, and illegal "hate speech" in most european countries.

>USA has absolute shit internet
ok bud

13% of the population commits 80% of the crime.

>faster than 99% of US

The difference in signal time between electrical transmission and light transmission from your home to your local switch/demarcation point is comically insignificant compared to the total travel.

it is in other countries, if you think it is the best or something you're retarded

Australia.

>Not even Gigabit
ok bud

>There is free market in the UK, what are you retards talking about? The problem is that the UK has huge areas of very sparse populations who also would like high speed internet, not everyone lives in fucking london. This makes no sense. In London is even worse. All connections are copper from the box and all they have been doing is laying some fibre every now and again up to boxes. Billions of pounds paid into the hands of BT for this purpose alone and all they do is fuck it up. Literally the easiest place ever to get it right with such high proliferation of underground pipes and they still complaint it's too costly to install. And in rural areas it's even worse.

Blame Europe. Brexit will give us free and unlimited internet, free food and free money!

4 cities in the US have 25% of the violent crime. It's pretty ridiculous. A lot of states in the US have crime rates on par with Scandinavian countries but a few cities have crime rates on par with South American or Middle Eastern war zones.

I'm on talktalk, I get 2mb down, that's enough for me. What are you doing that you need anything faster? Btw I pay the lowest amount, like £26

>no free market
please, in Finland we regulate everything heavily
speedtest.net/reports/nordic/

>What are you doing that you need anything faster?

Literally anything that isn't visiting this site that was designed back when dial up was still a common way to browse the internet.

>100mb/s is free
what are you smoking? There are no free internet in Finland.

It's worse here in Peenoise land, to get 1GBPS You'd have to pay nearly 200$. The only affordable plans are $30 for 20MBPS and 70$ for 50MBPs. Don't even get me started on fucking datacap plans.

Everything for me loads virtually instantly though. Youre doing something wrong if you can't make 2mb fly.

Virgin just don't have as much coverage as BT does. I rarely ever notice the Virgin street cabs around newer residential areas, just the older ones (which they likely inherited from NTL, etc.) it's a shame.

I said that I need fast internet for everything EXCEPT this site. Sure it loads fine for me too but again, it's just text and images. That shit's old hat. How long does it take you to download a movie or a game? And you need to download because you're not streaming anything better than 480p. Basically you can browse the internet but you can't do much more than that.
